Chapter 4

A/N: Final chapter. Short story, but a bit more work than some.

Sam and Cedric were pouring over books strewn across his sturdy table, looking for any mention of Earth or interdimensional travel.

"Ugh. Nothing," Sam said in frustration.

"As I feared. Yes, I've read every book here, but thought I may have forgotten something from long ago," Cedric replied.

He noticed Sam's tired expression. Using his wand, made a tea set for two and a small plate of fly cakes appear out of thin air on the table. The cakes were small cylindrical treats, with no trace of actual flies. Sam's eyes went wide at the sight of magic.

"Wow!"

Cedric chuckled. "A minor spell, but useful. I made the tea only warm, not hot." He gestured to the spread. "Help yourself. You likely haven't had anything for a while."

He poured two cups, and she took a cake.

"Thank you," Sam said happily.

She waited until Cedric made a move to eat or drink first. He paused, thinking over the reason for her waiting.

"Sorry," Sam said. "I trust you, but need to be sure. I've been betrayed by people who I knew for even longer and was close to. I've got to be careful," she added.

Cedric looked sad at this, but sipped his tea, then munched on a cake.

"I completely understand," he replied. "It's a shame someone would do that to you."

Sam nodded, sipped heartily from her cup, then tried the cake.

"Delicious," she enthused once finished.

"Indeed," replied Cedric, content she was in better spirits.

"Magic is very rare in my world," Sam said, looking off in thought. "The few times I've seen it were fighting villains using it against me and my friends."

She shuddered, disliking the thought of supernatural problems.

"But how could you fight against magic?" he asked, perplexed. " I was glad to have taught Sofia."

Sam smiled. "I fight with physical and mental skill, and technology," Sam said, attempting a humble tone. "Don't know any magic, but- you said Sofia does?"

"Yes, she's become powerful since she started as a little girl." he said in a pleased tone.

He thought for a moment.

"If magic works in your realm, perhaps she can use it to help solve this mess we're in!" Cedric enthused.

Sam looked at him in hope.

The three superspies gathered around the renowned princess.

Sofia had her wand with her, thankfully, and tested out simply making a pen levitate.

That alone caused the others to be speechless in awe.

"Okay, I used a minor spell so I wouldn't get tired," Sofia said hopefully. "I feel so little magic in this world, and almost none of it is good." She frowned slightly.

"Yeah," Alex agreed.

"If this machine's different from before the accident, maybe Fixitus Uptis will work," said Sofia.

"As in 'fix it up'? Sounds promising," Dean said.

"Or I could use a blast of power to recreate the surge you mentioned. But..." Sofia trailed off in thought.

"Two wrongs don't make a right?" Alex offered.

"Mm-hm. What if you just destroyed the machine by accident?" Clover asked.

"Try the first one," Dean said.

Alex and Clover made sounds of agreement.

Sofia closed her eyes to focus. The room fell into silence.

"Fixitus Uptis!" she enthused, pointing her wand to the machine.

The teleporter was bathed in white light, humming briefly once again. The light and hum soon faded, and Sofia sat in a chair in relief, barely awake.

"Sofia! You okay?" Alex knelt by her side.

Clover joined them with a water bottle, took off the top, and offered it to her.

"Thanks," Sofia said, and took a long drink. "Glad I didn't use much magic before that," she said tiredly. "Your realm doesn't flow so well with my magic. And that machine seemed really complex."

"Ha, you got that right," said Dean. "Thank you so much! Now let's test this out."

As he typed and navigated the computer's menus, Clover put a hand on Sofia's shoulder and looked at her in admiration.

"Thanks, Sofia. I hope it's all fixed," Clover said. "If so, you're a real miracle worker."

"So a lot of people in your world know magic?" Alex asked.

"Yeah, you could say that," Sofia said with a chuckle.

"Hey! I've got a lock on Sam!" Dean called over.

Alex and Clover were looking over his shoulders at the small screen in an instant.

"She moved to another location, but I was able to track her signature," he said.

The three looked at each other. "Thank goodness!" they said, nearly in unison.

Before anyone could laugh, Sofia walked over to the pad on which she'd appeared.

"We'd better do this before anything else happens," she said in concern.

"Goodbye, Sofia!" Alex said.

She dashed over to hug her, followed by Clover, and Dean waved from his seat.

"Thank you! Maybe my being here wasn't an accident. Bye!"

Dean pressed the button for the teleportation to commence. A white light enveloped her as it had before, then she vanished.

In Cedric's tower, he and Sam were studying what both deemed would be 'their last book'. Cedric looked up and was about to speak to her, when to his alarm, she was surrounded by white light, then vanished. A second later, Sofia appeared in a flash of white light where Sam had been.

"Sofia!" he cried, then hugged her in joy.

"Cedric!" she replied, hugging back. "Oh, I'm glad that worked."

"What happened? Are you okay?"

They finally released their hug, and Cedric sat down across from her.

"Yes, thanks to Dean, Clover, and Alex. Three nice people I met there."

"Really? You just missed Sam. We were looking for info on Earth and transdimensional travel. And weren't doing so well," he added.

"They had a teleportation machine that malfunctioned, switching her with me. I used Fixitus Upitis, and presto, here I am," she said brightly.

Cedric sighed in relief. "I heard there's hardly any magic there. I'm just glad you were able to use it."

"Yeah, I heard there are a lot of problems there. Their technology, though- Ah-mazing."

Cedric chuckled at her childhood catchphrase. "Well, we should go tell your family the good news, and your Mystic Isles friends, the unicorn..."

"Wow, they all found out and were worried, huh," she replied.

Cedric just smiled and walked hand in hand with her out of his tower and down to meet the others, relieved to be back together.

A second after Sofia vanished, Sam appeared in her place.

"Whoa!" Sam cried.

The others darted to her in a group hug, dragging her off the teleport mat.

"Sam!" they hollered.

"Guys!" she said, nearly in tears.

"Good to have you back," said Clover, as they finally released her.

"That was jarring," said Sam. "I was with Cedric, then just vanished without even getting to say goodbye," she said sadly. "But thank you so much. How'd you do it? Maybe some help from Sofia?"

"Yep! Sofia fixed the teleporter!" Alex said.

"Are you okay, Sam?" Dean asked worriedly.

"Thankfully," she said, then gave him a look. "Just keep me away from that machine."

Sam lightly slapped his shoulder.

"And please turn it off for the night," Clover said.

Clover and Alex dragged him to the console.

"Okay, girls. I'm really sorry," he said as he shut it down. "I have a theory of why you switched places with Sofia, by the way."

Sam looked at him expectantly.

"The surge caused a matter switch, and the machine searched out the most similar person in the destination based on physical characteristics."

"Interesting," Sam replied.

"Maybe other characteristics too," Alex said. "Smart, heroic, pretty girl who's saved the day a million times."

Sam gave her a shoulder hug.

"Thanks. Wish I could've met her." Sam yawned. "Now I just want to get some sleep."

"But you've got to tell us all about what happened," Clover said as she and Alex led her to the WOOHP tunnels.

Sam nodded. "Okay. I met winged people on a cloud near a castle. Rode a flying unicorn to a castle on the land below. Met a royal family. Then looked through books and had tea and cakes with a good sorcerer."

Clover and Alex looked at her with mouths wide open. Dean just grinned.

"So long, everyone. And see you tomorrow, Sam," Dean said, then pressed a button on his console.

Sam smiled enigmatically. Clover and Alex looked at her and Dean in curiosity.

A strong suction of air through the tubes along the wall pulled the three inside, Sam and Clover to the Mali-U penthouse dorm, and Alex to the Mystery household.

Dean exhaled then left the room, and the automatic lights went out.

As planned, Dean and Sam had met the next day to hang out, ending at the scenic Getty Museum Gardens. The higher altitude hangout spot had a nice view of the urban sprawl of L.A. below. A few people strolled about or sat on one of the benches like the exceptional couple.

The ever-changing garden was calm, composed of beautiful trees and flowers, the iconic hedge maze, and a stream winding through it all. But Dean squirmed on the bench, a bundle of nerves.

"I thought I'd almost lost you," he said.

"Can't get rid of me that easily. You should know by now," she replied.

"Good. Because I have something to ask you."

Sam's brows raised, thinking of the setting and his phrasing.

"Will you marry me?" he asked.

Dean pulled out a small black box and opened it to show a ring.

"Of course, Dean. Yes!"

Sam hugged him, then they kissed before he even had a chance to put the ring on. The few people closest to the couple smiled at the scene.

What's in store for these exceptional people of Earth and the Ever Realm?

Well, that's for another story. Maybe.
