Chapter 4 (The Child of Nature)
A/N: First off I need to give a shout out to A_Star1234 for helping me with ideas for this and the next chapter. And just a small notification that from now on whenever there is a "Flashback" I am referring to their back story because I can't come up with more excuses on why the remember a moment. Also thank you so much for over 125 views, anyways o the story.
Rob's P.O.V
Unlike the others, I decided to feel unphased by the earlier occurrence, because I was more worried about Preston. I had a pretty strong feeling that he thought he was guilty for the whole weird shock thing, so I decided to call and see if he was okay, but he didn't pick up. I should have expected him to be asleep by now, he always had this thing for going to bed by sun down, but no matter how times he's asked why, he just shuts them down or says that he wants an early start in the morning, so I just let it slide. My curiosity kept trying to get the best of me as I was doing my evening routine, so I did what I normally do to relax my mind. Tend to my flower garden. What! They don't call me the flower king for nothing, but I do take that title rather personally anyways, I made my way out to the garden and noticed that my sunflower had started to dry up. So I grabbed the hose and gave the whole garden a quick refresh, before lightly grasping the stem of the flower, then a pink aura surrounded the it and the sunflower instantly perked up, refilled with the vibrant colors it once had. The cause, my ability to control flowers and other floral.
-Flashback-
My parents owned a flower shop ever since I was born, so I always at the top of my class when it came to botany. Once I turned 15, my parents decided I was responsible enough to help out at the shop, of course I was all up for assisting, but in had a major downfall. All the guys in my classes thought working in a flower shop was too girly, especially saying how I'm also on the school's soccer team. One day, my parents put me in charge of watering the flowers in front of the store, but something was extremely off. All the flowers were dead, shriveled, brown, and dry, and I could figure out why.
"What the fudge is this! They were perfectly fine yesterday!" I yelled catching some unwanted attention.
"Oh god, mom and dad are going to kill me. Maybe I can revive a few of them." I exclaimed quieter then last time, as I began to panic. I dashed around the corner, snatched the hose, and prayed that they weren't all completely dead. I nearly drowned the plants, as tears pricked my eyes, 'did I just ruin the face of my parent's store?' I thought as a few tears ran down my cheek. In defeat I kneeled down to the level of the once beautiful blue tulips, and gently raised the flower upright, and slid my hand out expecting it to droop again, but instead a strange pink glow held it upright. Then all the color was restored, but not only that, the tulip became twice it's size along with a few others that grew around it. I instantly fell back in shock, I could not believe what just happen, and the situation became even more in unrealistic when the pink glow spread over all the dying floral and made them regrow like crazy.
"What the fudge just happened!?" I yelled to myself. Then start have this weird feeling on my head, like if something was growing there. I sprinted inside and went straight for the bathroom to find a mirror, and once I arrived, I noticed that a flower crown was currently weaving itself. As I took the crown off, my dad came into bathroom.
"Hey Rob! Did you really need the bathroom so bad that you ran at the speed of light?" he asked.
"Did that really happen?" I only asked, because with everything that's going on I wouldn't be surprised.
"Of course not. Oh, that's a nice flower crown you got there. Hold on, did you use the flowers from out front, you those are display only."
"No, I would never do that, but something weird is going on."
"What do you mean?"
"First off, when I went to water the flowers, they were all dead. As I tried to find out how it happened, all the floral replenished themselves and began to grow like crazy. Then I had this odd feeling on top of my head, and turns out this flower crown was actually growing on my head."
"Growing?"
"Just look at this." I stated as I gestured to a bud currently blooming into bright yellow sunflower. I expected him to be in shock just the same I was in, but instead he seem to have a mix of impressed, and excitement.
"D-dad, what's that expression? Can't you tell there's something wrong with me?"
"Rob, right now I need you to go to your mother and show the crown. I need to get something." He said as he left the room. I did as he said and found mom tending to the zinnias.
"Hey mom, I think there's something wrong with me, and all dad told me to do was to show you this." I said as I held the flower crown in front of me.
"W-where d-did you get that?" She gave the same reaction as dad only with a bit more shock. At least she showed signs of concern, but what bothered me was that the concern was focused on the crown and not how there was something wrong with me.
"Well you see---" I started, but was cut off by dad running over with a flowerpot that had a dried up daffodil.
"Honey, I think he's ready." He told mom.
"Ready for what?" At this point I had no clue what reality was anymore. There was clearly something with either me and no one will tell me the fudge is going on.
"Please take this and your mother will explain everything." He said handing me the pot with the dead plant. I took it unwillingly after placing the crown counter next to me, and same thing that occurred outside repeated in the pot.
"Someone please just tell me what is wrong with me."
"Rob, Sweetie, there's nothing wrong with you. It's just that you, *takes a deep breath before continuing* you have powers."
"I-I-I don't understand." I stuttered, nearly dropping the pot that was slowly over flowing with flowers. I couldn't believe it, I have powers, how is this even possible.
"You were born with nature powers, and this hasn't happened before because they come when they think you are ready. We know this because of your birthmark." Then I looked down at my shoulder where my birthmark was. I never let anyone see it because take away the last of what manliness I had left, because my birthmark is shaped like a sunflower.
"Your father believed that you were ready to use your power, so we set up a test for you. The flowers out, they were dead because we poisoned them, and if your father was right then you would have the have the power to revive them." She continued.
"But what about the crown?" I asked looking back the crown.
"That was the sign to show that you were ready for powers." But before I could continue I felt a strange stinging yet soothing feeling on my shoulder. I placed the pot on the counter next to the flower crown only to notice that a vine coiled up my arm and connected to my birthmark, but then it snapped and the stinging stopped. I pulled up my sleeve to see that my sunflower was filled in with the petals hot pink and the tips were a sky blue, also part of the vine had fused on my arm so it had the appearance of a stem. This time I just assumed that it was just another sign for my powers.
"Rob, go home and we'll close up shop and meet you their. There is something very important I need to show you."
"Ok fine." I replied, walking out the store grabbing the flower crown on the way. I wasn't sure why I held onto it, maybe because it was the only thing that didn't grow uncontrollably when ever I was near it.
Getting home was like a living hell. I had to sprint the three blocks home because if I walked then I would end up leaving a trail of crazy and large plants growing behind me. Once I finally got home I nearly collapsed upon entering but I managed to get to my bed. Rolling over so my face was no longer in the pillow, I slowly did a panel around my room, and felt tears forming when I saw all the beautiful flowers that decorated my room that unless I could figure out how to use these weird powers of mine, I wouldn't be able even come close to them with out making them grow wild. I spent a good ten minutes sobbing unsure what my life would come to, and these sorts of things I normally wander down to the forest that's down the street, but with everything that's been going on, I would probably get myself trapped. Soon I heard a faint knock, and looked over to see my mom standing in the door way, holding an old book titled, "Believed to be Fiction."
"Robert, I know you're feeling down right now but I need to show you this and maybe you might be able to gain control over your powers." She told me as sat next to me on the bed, and flipped straight the chapter, "Children of The Prophecy," and I began to read.
'The Children of The Prophecy, consist of seven young Individuals who will come together to defeat an evil that brought them together in the first place in an unexpected way. Six of the seven would have already been close, but seventh would have worked for the evil undercover. The seven will embark on the journey of a life time to switch back what has been changed and learn through this journey of each others powers. Though who they really are is unknown, but they are referred to as The Angel, The Shape shifter, The Summoner, The Child of Light, The Child of the Night, The Child of Water, and The Child of Nature.' I read that last part out because it sounded like----
"And that child is you; you are The Child of Nature."
"How do you know all this? And do you know who the others are?" I asked. I could believe it, I was part of a prophecy, there was no way this was real, right?
"For now there is no way of telling who the other children are, and we now because of this." She said flipping through a few pages until she got to the nature one. It had everything I had been told and even the colors that my birthmark was now.
"Now about controlling your powers, just know this your powers are Intune with your emotions, so plants will react to the way you feel. How about you go to the forest and train your powers and emotions. Also as long as you remember to stay calm none of the plants will go crazy and you will have perfect control over them."
"Thanks mom." My tears of fear had been replaced by tears of relief and comfort as I hugged her. On my way out I put on my favorite blue hoodie and the flower crown now that I felt more at ease with it on. I never would have realized how beautiful the world could be without my powers and nature itself seemed keep me easy minded so I never lost control.
-End Of Flashback-
Till this day I've always keeping my eye for the other Children of the Prophecy, but to a last with no avail. Though I have considered the other pack members, but they would tell each other about their powers, would they? The last question on my mind as I drifted into my slumber and that thing in sight was my flower crown the I have kept alive for around seven years (I think correct me if I'm wrong).
Hey guys I hope you have enjoyed this chapter. Sorry it took so long to update, most of it is school in general, but now I actually made the volleyball team this year which is awesome so that means I have practice till 6 everyday other than game days. Also when I said that chapter 2 that Lachlan would have the most back story I think you have notice that I have lied. Not on purpose of course, but part of it is how I come up with my story lines. Once I get an idea I start to work off of it in my mind, and some time I reenact some of the parts which guides me to continue and the more attached I am to an idea the more in deft it becomes. So ya. One last thing I'll hopefully be getting a new cover for the story soon made by Dolphin_Writes. Seriously go check out her art its amazing. Till next time.
