Lovesick
Isabella felt awful.
She had tried avoiding the Flynn-Fletcher brothers for the last week. It didn't help that she had almost every class with them.
She could feel Phineas looking at her but whenever she was brave enough to look back, he turned away. Isabella did her own share of staring, identifying every emotion his face conceived. He seemed happy whenever he looked away from her like he was in total bliss. Isabella understood that. She also understood the constant scribbling she could hear behind her. He was probably drawing little hearts or writing her love letters that he'd never give her.
When the bell rang, Isabella slung her book bag over her shoulder to go to her fourth period: Band. The only class the boys didn't have with her.
Isabella went to her locker to grab her flute and gasped as a flurry of flowers, red hearts, and paper cranes flew out of her locker. A little robot wheeled its way through crowds of students to get to her and presented her a giant teddy bear that held a heart with the words, I love you.
"Oh my fireside," Isabella muttered and quickly stuffed everything back in her locker, including the robot and teddy bear. Her face was red as she ran from her locker, embarrassed.
I never did this! Why, Phineas, whyyyyy
Isabella cringed to herself and could've sworn every laughter in the halls was directed at her.
The bell rang again as soon as she slipped into her seat next to Ginger.
Ginger noticed her obviously red face and asked, "Did something happen with Phineas?"
"Yea! He-"
Buford interrupted her and yelled across the room from the percussion section, "DID YOU LIKE PHINEAS' LOVE BEAR?!"
Everyone stopped and stared at Isabella. Isabella waited for them to laugh and was overwhelmed when everyone began to congratulate her. Everyone knew of her lifetime crush on the redhead and was happy of this sign that they might finally get together.
Ginger pounced on Isabella in excitement, almost dropping both of their flutes.
"What?! What'd he do?! When were you gonna tell me!"
Isabella stared at her in disbelief. This was embarrassing news to her!
"He stuffed my lockers with flowers-tulips, which may I remind you, I'm allergic to?- and also little scraps of red paper made to look like hearts-I'm pretty sure he was doing math homework on one of them- and paper cranes. They weren't even folded nicely! Oh! And get this! A creepy little robot comes up to me with this huge and cheesy teddy bear! It was embarrassing!"
Now it was Ginger's turn to stare at her in horror and shock.
"Isa, are you feeling ok? Phineas gave you those things! It was super romantic! Are you sick?"
Ginger was seriously concerned and Isabella remembered that she supposedly had Phineas' emotions and personality and was quiet.
Was this how Phineas would've reacted if she had ever acted on her feelings?
The thought hurt her and she thought about it for the rest of class. She barely paid attention to what she was playing, though she knew it was good. She wasn't first chair for nothing.
As the bell rang for lunch, she grabbed her stuff and absentmindedly walked beside Ginger to the cafeteria.
"Oh, wow! Isabella, look!"
Isabella's attention slowly snapped to what Ginger was pointing at and she almost screamed.
The cafeteria stage had been turned into this glamorous rock out scene and Phineas was on it with Love Handel beside him.
Phineas quickly spotted Isabella in the crowd and beamed.
"Hit it!"
Isabella's awful feeling blossomed to whole different level as Phineas sang Danville's personal favorite love song, Gitchee Gitchee Goo.
Everyone was ecstatic and sang along. Even the staff members were having a good time. Isabella seemed to be the only one not happy about it.
And that made her upset.
If this was how Phineas would've reacted if she had told him years ago, she was glad she had never said anything because she had never been so embarrassed in her life.
The song finally ended and Phineas began to speak.
"Isabella Garcia-Shapiro! I love you!"
Isabella began to panic as people tried to look for her and was almost relieved when someone snatched her out of the cafeteria.
Almost.
She grabbed the arm that was clutched to hers and swung the person onto the floor.
"Ferb?!" She exclaimed and quickly helped him up to his feet.
Isabella tried to apologize but Ferb shut her up by taking her farther from the cafeteria where people were searching for her.
They arrived at the east wing of the school where no one went since it was being redone.
"Phineas is going crazy," Ferb finally said.
"You don't have to tell me," Isabella sighed.
"He's absorbed all your feelings for him at once and it's too much for him. He doesn't know how to deal with it all so he's acting on it, hoping that you'll return the feeling. It's like your pain times ten. It's too much."
Isabella stayed quiet and thought about her former life. Always looking for his attention and ways to hang out with Phineas. As she thought about her life in the past couple weeks, she realized she was more miserable now. Instead of feeling incomplete without Phineas' attention, she was now uncomfortable going to sleep if she didn't build something. She didn't have the same resources as Phineas so the materials were eating out of her allowance and she didn't have much of that to begin with.
She also realized she had let her fashion sense go and had been wearing the same sweatpants and tattered sweater all week. It was practical but as she looked in a nearby glass door, she looked terrible. The outfit was not helping her figure and her skin was paler than usual. Not to mention the bags under her eyes from the stress of having to think of amazing things to build and the stress of Phineas' crazy affection.
She began to cry. She missed hanging out with her fireside girls and helping others and having fun. She missed her blissful sleep and feeling cute. But what she missed most of all was building fun things with the boys and hanging out with Phineas without all the unnecessary awkwardness.
Ferb let her fall into him as she had a good cry. Lunch was definitely over by now but Isabella didn't want to go to anymore classes. She was tired and just wanted to sleep. She was an honor and AP student, she figured she deserved a little time to herself.
Ferb stayed with her all day and described Phineas' latest inventions which all included Isabella in some sort of way. The whole family adored Isabella but even they were getting tired of Phineas' schoolboy crush.
"The other morning, we all came downstairs and apparently he stayed up all night making a breakfast all about you. Eggs just the way you like them, your mom's recipe for enchiladas, and pancakes that had your face on them. He even had this apple juice fountain with a statue of you two at the top. It was all delicious but...slightly disturbing. No offense but a simple round pancake is fine for me."
Isabella snorted with laughter at the whole thing. She remembered why she adored the redheaded brother so much. He put so much effort in things he liked. He had a passion for something which lots of other boys lacked.
The end of the day bell rang and Isabella sighed.
"I think I'm ready."
Ferb nodded and they both left to find the very lovesick Phineas.
