Living A Lie
"Ferb? Can I talk to you about something?"
Phineas ducked into his room and sat on his bed, nervously twiddling his fingers.
Ferb lifted his head slightly, his eyes still glued to his laptop with a brow cocked to show he was listening.
"Isabella told me she used to...to love me before. What...what does it mean? To be in love...?"
Ferb snapped his laptop down and set it down to the side.
"There's...no one definition for love but I think love is when you put their needs before yours and that you love everything about them unconditionally. It's knowing you'd do anything for that person if it makes them happy. Even...even if you have to wait for them...forever..."
Phineas watched Ferb pour out his thoughts and watched as his wall was broken and raw emotions filled his eyes. He watched in amazement as pure adoration and sadness flowed in Ferb's smile.
Phineas felt the corners of his mouth curve up as he asked, "Is there...is there someone you're in love with?"
Ferb looked at him with his small smile and rolled his eyes, "Forget me. Are you in love with Isabella?"
Phineas flinched and he blinked. He drummed his fingers on the bed and then felt his legs melt on to the floor and the rest of his body followed in exasperation. He sighed and hid his head in between his knees.
"How do I get rid of it?" He asked softly.
A few seconds passed before Ferb replied.
"You can't. Being in love isn't a choice. Being in love...is forever."
Phineas groaned, "Why is this hard? Is this how she felt before?"
"Practically told me every second how in love she was with you," Ferb scoffed.
"Wait? If she was in love with me then shouldn't she still be in love with me? Didn't you say that being in love is forever?"
Ferb's face scrunched in confusion, "Yea...I mean that's how I always thought being in love was like...?"
Ferb sprang off his bed and grabbed his phone off the desk. He rushed out the door only to be back in a couple seconds but this time with the Yomo729 scanner in his hands.
"Hey! It's that-"
Ferb shut him up as he pointed it at him and a red light scanned over Phineas' body.
Beeps could be heard from Ferb's laptop and they both went to see what was happening.
A scan of Phineas popped up and this time, there were green dots around his chest area.
"What is that?" Phineas asked.
Ferb didn't answer. Instead, he grabbed his phone from the desk and dialed a number in.
"Ferb? Is something wrong? Who're you calling? What's the green stuff? Am I dying? Are you calling Izzy-"
"Phin, shut up," Ferb murmured and turned his attention back to his call.
Phineas heard someone answer and a tingle flushed through him as he identified it to be Isabella.
"Isabella, come here."
"Wait, what? Ferb-"
Ferb hung up.
"Hey, why'd you do that? She was still talking?" Phineas asked, mildly annoyed with Ferb.
Ferb sighed and shook his head and went back to his laptop to further inspect the scan.
The doorbell rang and Phineas lit up with excitement.
"I'll get it!" He cried as he raced downstairs.
He paused for a second to slick his hair back and to calm his pounding heart before opening the door.
"Hey, Isabella! What'cha doing?"
"First of all, only I can say that. And two, where's your brother? And what was with the ominous phone call?" Isabella asked as she walked in.
He looked at her in confusion as she went upstairs. She had let him say her catchphrase before? Why not now?
A pang hit him as he remembered she no longer loved him.
He walked up slowly until he remembered she was alone with Ferb and he began to take the steps by twos.
"Ferb! Izzy! Is everything ok?" He questioned once he got back to his room.
"Well, we know why you're suddenly in love with Isabella and why she doesn't see you that way," Ferb said.
"Because I can't live without her? I already told you this?"
"No. Apparently your bodies switched but it had been too long and your personalities and emotions started to melt together."
"So...I don't really love her...?"
Ferb didn't say anything and exchanged a look with Isabella.
"We have to do it..." Ferb said quietly.
"Ferb, please no, I can't do it again..." Isabella whispered.
She sounded like she was about to cry and Phineas stepped forward to comfort her but one stare from Ferb kept him back.
Ferb grabbed his cell phone and before someone answered, he turned to Isabella and said, "You're living a lie."
Isabella flinched.
Someone answered the call and a light red color spread on Ferb's cheeks as he said, "Hey, Vanessa."
Phineas' lips perked into a smirk but turned into a frown when Isabella stood up and rushed out in anger.
"Isabella, hey!"
Phineas turned to see if Ferb would stop her but for once, his attentive brother wasn't paying attention to them and was smiling brightly at nothing.
Phineas sighed and decided to let Ferb have his own love life as he chased after Isabella.
"Isabella, wait!"
Isabella paused a second before turning around to look at him.
She was at the start of her driveway and from his own, he could see her face was red and her eyes were watering up.
"Phineas-"
"We need to talk."
Phineas began to walk across the street. Isabella stared at him and started backing up.
"Look, Phineas, we really don't need to-"
Phineas grabbed her and pulled her into a hug before she could run inside.
"I love you."
"What-"
"I'm telling you I love you. Even if we switch back, just know that, right here, right now, I love you."
Phineas felt his own eyes welling up. His chest hurt so much that he could've died right there and then. He knew this must've been what Isabella had been feeling for years and that made it hurt even more.
"I'm so sorry if I ever made you feel less than you are. I think you're the most amazing girl in the world and I'll never find another person like you. I...I think I liked you before this whole fiasco but...I guess I never realized it. I'm so sorry."
Isabella didn't speak and Phineas could feel her body shaking in her arms. Her heard soft sniffling and then it was like a wall had broken.
She pushed him away and he saw waterfalls of tears streaming down her face.
"For years I stayed by your side! I loved you so much! I had all these medals and awards for being in all the school clubs and outside sports but none of them mattered if I didn't at least get a smile from you every day! I felt pathetic that I had to get your approval to feel happy but then I forgot all that the next day! I anxiously waited for summer so that I could spend every waking moment with you! You! You have no freaking clue what I went through!"
Phineas stared at her as she fell to her knees. He was frozen. He didn't know what to do or say.
Isabella made the choice for him by speaking again.
"I'm sorry but I don't want to go back...I don't...I don't want to be that kind of girl anymore. I don't want to be the kind of girl that waits for some boy to just sweep her off her feet. I know my talents and skills are worth something. And I know my own worth. I know I'm not worth that life."
"But, Isabella, I love you."
"Yea, for now. Look, I'm sorry but I've loved before and it's just not for me. It might be selfish but I have to think about myself now."
Phineas watched as Isabella left him standing on the sidewalk, paralyzed with heartbreak.
Hi! This is long because I think you guys deserved it after so long sorry about that btw but I have an ending planned out which might take me two more chapters. I'll try and punch them out soon and not have this whole huge writing gap! Ok byeeee!
