Chapter 7 ~ Near Threathened

We slowly made our way up to the surface. Make sure to not head up too fast to avoid compression sickness. Once we had popped back up into the air we made our way to the boat. I hadn't realized how far we had drifted from the ship.

About a minute later we had reached the ship. We climbed back up on deck and took off our equipment. I had gotten my diving suit off, while Liam had just taken off his gear when he walked off towards the fishing crew. They had been hanging out at the ship all day, just talking about the busy day they had yesterday. If you count hanging out for hours, just waiting is busy.

Liam walked up to them, slightly frustrated. I could tell he was hoping it was theirs, so he could just scold them and be done with it, But both of us were fearing something else. "Hey, guys, can I ask you something?"He said, trying to not raise his voice.

"Sure Liam what's up.." One of the men said, turning towards Liam. "We found this." He said, handing them the line. "Please tell me this is one of yours..." He said, placing his hands on his hips. The fisherman took the line, looking over at it before letting the others take a look. "I don't think so. We haven't used this kind of line in months." He said, handing it back to Liam.

Liam let out a sigh as he grabbed the line. "Great," He sighed. "Where did you find it?" They asked. "We found it attached to a shark when we were down in the water," I added. They all looked towards me, before looking at each other. Others shrugged at who seemed to be the captain.

"Sorry Liam, But it's not ours." He said. Liam let out a sigh. "That's what I was afraid of.." He said before turning around again. He walked across the deck. He threw the line away in a trashcan and leaned against the railing.

"So what do we do now?" I asked, standing next to him. He let out a frustrated sigh. "I'm not sure." He said. "I have a feeling this has to do with fishing. But not like us..." He said. He stared out into the ocean for a bit. "Wait maybe if we-" He pushed himself off the railing, heading towards his computer.

He opened the radar, scanning for nearby ships. There were a few lying around, only one stood out. He clicked on it, getting more information on it. "What are you looking at?" Suddenly one of Liam's crew joined in to look at the screen.

"Looking for a ship." He said as he read through the information. "For what?" He asked. "We found some fishing line. I'm trying to see if any of these would be responsible." He continued scanning the screen.

"It just looks like a normal fishing boat to me." He said, reading with him. "That's the point. They're a fishing boat." He got up from looking at the screen. "Who's to say what they're fishing for?" Liam said, a serious look on his face. "You think they're catching sharks?" The crew member asked. There were no words needed, his expression said enough. "You want me to call it in?" He asked. Liam nodded.

The crewmember grabbed the satellite phone, walking away from the screen to call the hotline about this. "Do you think there is anything they can do about it?" I asked, looking at Liam. "I'm not sure..." He said. He took a breath before turning back to look at me. His expression softened. "But at least they'll be aware of it-" He smiled.

He walked off onto the deck. I stayed behind at the computer, staring at the screen. I watched as he joined his crew, waiting for the phone call to end.

When they did they looked over at Liam. They said something but I couldn't quite make out what. But whatever it was it wasn't good, as they shook their heads.

Liam looked both disappointed and angry about it. Running his hands through his hair. I wanted to get closer to try and find a way to cheer him up. But I was scared I wouldn't be able to help. So instead I left him alone going back to my favorite spot on the ship.

I leaned against the deck, looking around the students and crew. I saw how Liam took off his diving suit. Putting it back on the table with the others, before getting behind the computer screen. He stared at it seriously before he suddenly looked up. When he met my eyes, my first reaction was to turn away.

Later that day everyone was back on deck. We were going to go back to the mainland., as we had run out of supplies for both the research and other things like food.

This wasn't exactly planned but there was nothing to do about it but go back and get more things. I wasn't mad about it. In fact, I was kind of looking forward to going back. Although the medication helped against the nausea, it was still tiring to be on the waved for this long

Later that night everyone went to their sleeping quarters. Getting ready for the long trip ahead.
