"The water is alive. Once you dive in it will immediately bare its fangs and attack. But there's nothing to fear. Don't resist the water. Thrust your fingers into the surface and carve an opening."

I'm ready for my first day! I'm a first year, and Haruka is a second. Nanase Haruka, the famous boy, but I'll beat him someday, I'll make sure of it. I get through my first day, and Nagisa from my class runs over to me.

"Swim club?" I ask.

"Yeah! We're looking for new members! Do you wanna join?"

"You're Hazuki Nagisa right? Sure I'll join."

"Really?! Thanks a lot! Can you come by tomorrow at Samezuka?"

"S-sure why?"

"You don't have to swim! You can just watch, we have a joint practice tomorrow!"

"O-ok?"

And then he's off. Swim club huh? I haven't swam in a while. Well it's not like I didn't come here to swim...

"Sorry I'm late!" I yell, running towards Nagisa, Haru, Makoto, and Ryūgazaki-kun.

"Took you long enough!" Yells Ryūgazaki-kun, in his swimsuit, I guess I don't get to swim today.

I sit down next to Kou, watching them as they swim. Next, it's Ryūgazaki-kun's turn and he seems anxious,

"Hey next swimmer! Move to the starting block!" The guy with orange hair yells at him.

He moves to the starting block, he gets in position,

"Set.."

The whistle blows, and as in slow motion, he dives into the water...

And he flops in.

Our team seems startled, but I can't help laughing, but the team is too surprised to focus on me, and before I know what's happening, Nagisa and Haru are helping him out of the water, and it seems like no one noticed me laughing. After the orange haired guy hands him a towel, our team is surrounding him while he seems depressed.

"So Rei-chan, you can't swim?"

"Yeah... Something wrong with that? I told you I wasn't going to swim!"

"You should have said something earlier..

"I wasn't going to admit I couldn't swim, that would go against my sense of beauty!"

"Rei-chan..."

"I'll clear things up with Samezuka," Makoto states, "Sorry about forcing you into this situation... oh, it's Haru's turn to swim."

"Ready! Set!" The whistle blows.

Again, as if slow motion, Haru dives into the water, but this dive more beautiful than the last, and I can tell I'm not the only one mesmerized.

"It's so beautiful to watch!" Nagisa exclaims, but I barely hear this, cause the only thing on my mind is Haru's swimming.

My thoughts start to stray and I start thinking about Matsuoka Rin, my childhood friend, from Australia. We were both trying to learn English at the time. I'm very pretty. I have black hair and I have blue eyes, the same color as the ocean. I'm slender, and when I'm not trying to look like a boy, I wear a mini-skirt with a tank top. I can be girly, but I also act well as a boy.

While I'm at Iwatobi, I'm dressing up like a boy, and even have this special, expensive makeup I pay for with my part- time job.

Anyways, my thoughts wander back to Rin. He's told me all about Haru, and it seemed like he looked up to him, but I hated him. I'll do anything in my power to beat him and replace him in the finals. I'll train hard.

When I was young, I was sent to Australia since my birth parents couldn't handle me anymore. They sent me to live with a couple. My health was very fragile, since I always pushed myself to beat someone who was once close with me. Once, I pushed myself so hard, I ran out of breath and almost started to drown. After that incident is when my parents sent me to Australia. In Australia, I didn't tell my foster parents about my health.

About a year after I had stayed with them, Rin had appeared. We became best friends, he became my brother, and I never told him about my health. I could never compare to Rin either, but I loved Rin as a brother, so I never really gave it much thought. But one night, I was trying to swim as fast as I could, so I could show off to Rin. But the same thing happened that night, I almost drowned. No one was there that time, so I had stayed at the bottom of the pool for at least half an hour, until Rin came looking for me.

He rescued me and then called an ambulance. I had very little chance of survival since I was at the bottom of the pool for forever. I was there for so long. They had also had to find a way to cure my bad health. The doctors were different there, and I'm not sure if they were better or worse than Japan. No doctors knew what I had, but most classified it as asthma, though that didn't reassure me at all.

I thought I should visit Rin, and go as a girl. I knew where he was staying, so it wouldn't be a problem to find him. No, I don't want him to know I'm in Japan. He might get suspicious, and call our home in Australia, my only true home, and my only true parents.

I ran away from home, soon after I got out of the hospital, which was a few days ago.

I got home, to the home I was staying in currently by myself. I had sneaked out of the hospital to swim sometimes, but it wouldn't be for very long, and from now on, there would be no one to care for me.
