The pain of missing someone

I took the Medicine,

But I'm up in the middle of the night again,

Same beginning, middle, but still no end.

Back at the beginning with you.

Regina George was 16 when she met Cady Heron, the girl has strawberry blonde hair, and green eyes. She was awkwardly endearing, blushing and shying away from compliments.

Regina was 17 when she almost died.

Correction.

She did die.

For 15 seconds.

And maybe this was enough to knock sense into her, but Regina doubts it, as she's now a 19-year-old at a college where she does lacrosse on a scholarship. She only speaks to Karen and Gretchen because she shares a room with them.

Regina struggles. Especially at night. She has tablets to help battle her insomnia but all it does is make her feel like she's drowning, even more so when she gets stuck in her nightmares because the medicine has sent her in such a deep sleep that not even her terrified screams can be heard outside of her own head. She wakes in a sweat, thankful that herself, Karen and Gretchen live off campus, each of them having their own room in the apartment.

Regina looks at her alarm, 4:36, she knows she won't go back to sleep now. She pulls herself out of bed. She looks awful, her hair is slicked back with sweat, and her clothes cling to her in an uncomfortable way.

She strips herself of the clothes, staring at her body, she's skinny. Skinner then she was ever before the accident. And she looks ghastly, her skin is white, her eyes are... sad, like they know something they don't want to.

Regina pulls some underwear from her draws, a sports bra and a pair of boy shorts, the pink is dull, just like Regina is most days. She makes her way to the shared bathroom, thankful that the others won't be awake yet. She soaks under the boiling spray of the shower. She stands under it for a while, until she hears movement from her friends. By that time she'd spent nearly 2 hours under the heat of the shower and her skin is dark red, Regina doesn't know how she hadn't noticed it but gets out of the shower either way, she wraps a towel around her and dries herself off enough to put her bra and underwear on, using her towel to wrap around her head to soak up the water in her hair.

She leaves the bathroom, not worried about her friends seeing her body, it wouldn't be the first time, she'd known them since she was 13.

"Hey Regina, do you want some breakfast?" Regina gives a non-committal nod, Gretchen knows to give Regina smaller portions, otherwise it's left on the plate.

Regina goes into her room to chuck on a black tank top, pink hoodie and some sports leggings. She brushes her wet hair up into a ponytail. Her roommates are still in their pyjamas when Regina makes her way from the room, a small plate of French toast is sat on the side of table that Regina usually takes, she grabs a drink of water and sits down to have breakfast with her friends.

"So, are we okay having someone over later?" Karen asks, nervously, Regina is picking at her food.

"Of course, it is your house too, you don't have to ask me." Regina says.

"Thank you!" Karen states in excitement. Regina doesn't have any lessons today, instead she gets dressed for gym, which is where she's going before training.

Regina only eats about three quarters of the plate before pushing it away, it's Karen's day to do the washing up, Regina finishes her glass of water and then makes herself a protein shake, grabbing herself a snack bar and some pre-cut apple.

"Right, I'll be back from training at 4, what time are you having the person over at?" Regina questions, grabbing her sports bag. It's around 7 degrees outside with is pretty good, still, Regina grabs a thin jacket to chuck on overtop of her hoodie.

"Uh, probably around 3, so she'll be here when you get back, do you want any food preparing?" Gretchen states, she's tidying the table while Karen loads the dishwasher.

"No, that's okay, how about I order take out if you are willing to wait for me to get home. We can get Chinese, I will pay for it" Regina says, making her way out the door, locking it behind her.

Regina makes her way to the gym in their apartment building, she checks in, usually the first one in and usually out before everyone turns up. She runs for hours; she loves the burn in her legs. She has her workout playlist which Regina is embarrassed to admit is just Taylor Swift songs. She works out to feel something other than an estranged connection with who she was.

She misses Cady.
So fucking much that it actually terrifies her sometimes.

Lacrosse practice went as it usually does, Regina thrives, and stays in her own space, she doesn't talk to many people on her team, they don't like her, she can tell.

By the time Regina gets home she's unusually ravenous, for her that is, she can hear talking as she unlocks the door, she exhausted and could do with a long shower.

"Oh, that's Regina now." Karen's voice echo's out, Regina drops her gym back, shrugging her jacket off and her jumper was lost to the bag hours earlier, she's found herself gross out by the sweat gathering on her underneath it.

"Regina, you're back early." Gretchen says in excitement.

"Yeah, I am, but only by like 20 minutes. And only because some girl in the freshman year has twisted her ankle and cried like a baby, yet when I complained after someone body slammed me and I landed on my back, I was given extra practice time for complaining.

Regina groans, finally entering the living room, after toeing her shoes off, of course, she was ready for bed, at least tomorrow is her day off. I mean it is Saturday but still.

"Right then, what are we getting from-" Regina's words catch in her throat.

"Hey, Regina!" a cheery voice greets her.

"C-Cady"

This is based off Renee Rapp's song 'Swim'.
Also, I like to think this is based more around the new mean girls, which just makes more sense to me as a 17 year old since i wasn't even alive when the other one came out. Now i do mention Cady having 'strawberry blonde hair' I do imagine this being Angourie Rice but with slightly more red hair. If you need references, search up 'light strawberry blonde hair' to see my vision.
