CHAPTER - 27
Tapping my foot on the floor I read the novel, I was too lost reading it, when I hear someone speaking I stop reading and listen to them not bothering to take a look at whoever is speaking.
"The second round of interviews is going to start in a few minutes." After listening to the female voice, who I assume is the assistant of the officer, I close my book and slip it into my bag.
Inhaling the lavender fragrance which is all around this company I smile, I love this smell. My eyes stuck at two interview rooms, in one room I'm going to enter now.
Almost 18-20 people are here for the interview, in this, any 5 are going to be selected. I wish, somehow I get this job. It's not that I'm greedy for money, I am going to get married, maybe in a few months and when I get married I want to be independent not depend on my to-be-husband.
I am qualified of doing anything on my own so I don't want my husband to take my responsibilities. I want a type of companion who will respect me, before love I want respect. I don't know if I'll get married to this type of husband but I know even if he is not like my expectations I can lead my life myself.
The first girl enters for the interview as she passes a hesitant smile to every one of us, I pass her a smile to encourage her. The girl sitting on my left is kind of irritating as she keeps blabbering some or other thing.
"I am sure even if no one is capable of this job, I am capable of it." I hear her irritating voice, "I used to win, always!"
If you don't know, let me tell you, I have anger issues!
"Excuse me," I tap her shoulder, she stops blabbering the shit to some unknown girl who is patiently listening to her but her face clearly says she is not interested in conversation with this irritating stuff.
"Everyone sitting here is capable." I nod seriously. "And that is why they have reached here to give the interview. I don't think the head of Khanna Corporations is dumb to call them for the interview when they are not capable of it." I arch an eyebrow at her.
"Fuck off!" She muttered through her gritted teeth.
"I think there's a washroom on the left side, you can go there and do your F business," I smirk at her horrified expression while few interviewees are trying to suppress their laughter.
Being humiliated she gets up and sits on the last seat. I'm feeling happy she is away from here because she is doing nothing but spreading negativity.
"Ah, thanks, girl. She was pissing me off!" The girl with whom the irritated girl was speaking shifted beside me. "I am already nervous and she was doing nothing but making me feel low."
"I understand." I nodded giving her a small smile. "Besides, there's nothing to be nervous about. Just be honest and trust yourself."
She stares at me fondly for a moment. "You speak just like my elder sister." She smiled at me and shifted her gaze back to the files in her hand.
This reminisces me I should take look at my documents because after three people I should enter in. Opening my bag I take out my file, my gaze falls on the envelope in my bag. I know Neela maa has put this here.
This envelope has a picture, a picture of a man who can be my husband in the future. My mother, Neela maa, already has a soft corner for this man as she has started praising him from the time we got his alliance.
Yesterday we got his alliance and I am least bothered to take a glance at his picture. I am not going to accept him with his looks, I'll accept him with his behavior. However, Neela maa has already decided she wants him as my husband. Sighing deeply I shrug off my thoughts, let's focus on the interview now.
Rummaging through the small pocket in my bag I take out two candies. "Take this." I hand it to the girl beside me. "Chocolate before anything to boost your confidence."
"Woah, thanks!" She accepted it happily as she unwrapped the candy. "Sara here!" She forwarded her hand.
"Avni here!" I put my hand in hers, I can't miss the childishness in her behavior.
Unwrapping the candy I put in my mouth, sometimes seeing others happy means peace. Closing my eyes I feel the taste of chocolate and smile. My gaze falls on Sara as she licks her lips and smiles at me.
We should learn to celebrate all our days for simple and stupid reasons. We shouldn't wait for our birthday or anniversary or valentines day or any family function to be happy. Celebrate all your days because you know your Date Of Birth not your Date Of Death. You wait to celebrate your birthday and you don't know when the death day will kiss you and you'll not even be able to smile cheerfully.
"Your turn." A boy smiles at me as he goes away with a sad expression.
"Hey, it's fine." I grab his elbow. "Maybe some other job is waiting for you." I smile at him trying to cheer him up.
"Maybe." He nods, "All the best to you. He is just tricking the mind so try to act cool. I could have done it better but his gaze on me made me nervous."
"It's okay!" I squeeze his arm. "Thanks for the tips, man."
I go inside after giving him a small smile. No matter how much I try to shrug it off somewhere I am nervous, well it's okay to be nervous I am human.
"Good afternoon." The interviewer passes a smile to me, I relax as he is trying to be polite instead of being bossy. I don't think I'll be able to control myself when someone acts bossy with me.
"Make yourself comfortable." He curtly nods at the seat, I nod and settle myself.
That boy was right his gaze is definitely making me nervous.
"DD here." He leans on the table studying my face. "Miss?" He arches an eyebrow at me.
"Avni Parikh." I look away fisting my Kurti.
"Documents." He offers his hand, I quickly put my file in his hand and try to act normal.
This is a feeling which I used to get when I was in school and had to give my oral exam. I am very clear with my words, my problem is that I don't think twice before speaking and somehow I end up saying the worst things.
"Impressed!" He exclaimed, throwing my file on the table. Boy, if you were not my interviewer I would have smacked your head on the table for throwing my achievements on the table.
"Interested in which department?" He looked at me with serious expressions.
"Marketing and Financial." I keep my answer short not wanting to show how anxious I'm at him for throwing my files on the table.
Humming silently he goes through my file once again. "Your interests?"
"Action." I nod. "I love to watch the action, I love to do the action. You know sir, boxing boxing or smacking smacking." I use my hands to show the seriousness behind my words.
"Don't you think you should have been somewhere else, doing boxing boxing?" He chuckled raising his eyebrows, and I feel relaxed that he didn't find my behavior weird because most of the time people look at me with weird expressions when I share my interests.
"No, that's my interest, not my profession." I keep my point. "I am a graduate in the commerce field, not in the boxing field."
The rest of our questions went normally, though sometimes his gaze made me nervous and I also sounded nervous what made me happy was that he was trying to make me feel better. Thanks to that boy because of him I thought at least once before answering because DD sir was tricking minds!
"You may leave." He added as he noted something in his book. "Send the next interviewee, please."
I nod at him and walk out of the room controlling myself from asking 'Am I selected?'
"Sara, your turn." I smile at her. "Stay calm he is an easy-going person. Just think before answering." I pat her arm.
"Thanks, Avni." She hurried towards the room as she recited something.
She's so cute, she is maybe my age but somehow I find her cute. Walking out I wait for her in the waiting area because yeah, I find her cute.
"I saw you coming out of the interview room." A strong lavender fragrance smell reaches near me as I hear an intense male voice.
Raising my head I look at the owner the voice, a man dressed in a professional business outfit. Dark-colored navy blue suit and tie. A white button-down shirt and belt pairing with the closed-toed shoe.
His eyes lock with mine, running a hand through his hair his dark brown eyes stared into mine. My body started to warm up. I have already done my warm-up exercise.
"What are you doing here?" He questioned taking a sharp breath.
"That's none of your concern." I roll my eyes because honestly, it's none of his concern.
"I saw you coming out of the interview room," He added after recovering his shocked expression.
"Yeah so?" I arch an eyebrow trying to know what he means.
"So, you are done with your interview and you should leave to your home now, Ms. Parikh." His tone was calm not affected by my behavior.
"I am waiting for my friend." I jerk my thumb near the corridor which leads to the interview room. Since he was calm with me I gave him a perfect answer. I wonder how does he even knows my surname?
"Do you know me?" He questioned with a nervous smile, why is he trying to be an idiot?
"Nope!" I shrug, "I have just met you."
He hummed and looked away. "I know you!"
I frown, why is even so interested? "How do you know me?"
"Through a picture." He smiled to himself not making contact with my eyes, is he a pervert?
"Listen, Mister, I don't entertain people with dirty minds. Kindly keep your thoughts clean before speaking with me." I point my finger at him. "If you have my picture delete it or maybe I may turn your face in such a beautiful way that you'll never take your own picture."
He looks at me with an agape mouth then looks away muttering something under his breath but still smiling.
"Who are you?" I glare at him. "What's so funny that you keep smiling?"
"I am," He nods slowly. "The head of Khanna Corporations." He suppressed his smile. "The funny thing is that I know you and you don't know me, I saw your picture yesterday."
I bite my lower lip in embarrassment, for sure he has seen my picture in my resume. See this is my problem, I don't think twice before speaking.
"I apologize, Sir." I look at him with nervousness in my eyes. "I didn't know you."
"It's fine, happens! You have not seen my picture?" He enquired with a confused look.
Why the hell does he even expect me to see his picture?!
"I am sorry but I have not." I give him a forced smile. "If I had seen I would have not behaved weirdly with you."
He nodded as his Adam's Apple bobs and he looked away. He is simply stupid!
"Sara!" I cheer and run towards her. "How was it?"
"Gosh, I got scared." She giggled keeping a hand on her chest. "It was good. You were right he is an easy-going person and as you said I thought before answering." She smiled as a dimple revealed on her left cheek.
"You know, you are cute." I poke her dimple making her laugh more.
"Well, thank you." A tint of blush formed on her cheeks.
"Don't tell me you are interested in girls?" I raise my eyebrows and step aside from her dramatically widening my eyes.
"No!" She giggled. "I was about to ask you the same."
"Private conversation outside the office." The head of this office gave us strict look, his last name is Khanna god knows what's the first name!
"Sorry, Sir." Sara dragged me with her, I turned around to find Mr. Khanna smiling. Does he have a Split-brain problem?
