CHAPTER - 22
"Don't worry I'll take care of all of them," Sara says as she glances at Niam, Navya, Fawzi, and Ahad.
"I hope you do," Foziah says. "No one is gonna trouble my sister, okay?" She asks as she looks at the kids who seem happy to get back together.
"Okay." They cheer.
"Well, I hope you don't end up troubling them." Asad teases Sara as he chuckles slowly.
"I used to trouble them when I was single you know." She rolls her eyes. "I am a mother now not a child anymore."
"Yeah, the look on Kabir's face clearly says how much of a mother you are now." Foziah laughs.
I look at Kabir who has a pained look on his face as he looks at everyone and I know that's because he'll have to handle Sara along with everyone.
"I can drop them at my parent's place," I say to him. I don't want him to have trouble because of us. The only reason I considered dropping them here is that Mom and Bebe are not well and Alia has been busy at the hospital.
"That's not a problem." He shakes his head. "Niam and Navya are a lot more sensible than my wife."
"What do you mean by that?" She frowns at him.
"I mean, you have a baby in there demanding a lot of things right?" He asks her softly. "Drop me to the washroom, feed me, become a joker for me, do a pole dance for me, make me laugh, and whatnot.
"Are you complaining?" She glares at him.
"Not at all." He says instantly putting his arm around her.
I look down at my phone when it beeps, there's a message from Avni letting me know they are on the way.
"You know you are lucky to have him." Foziah chuckles.
"He is lucky to have me." She answers with a smile. "In the world of boring people, he got an exciting wife."
"Whatever." Foziah rolls her eyes. "I'll see you guys tomorrow."
"Be good, okay?" I look at Niam and Navya. "Take care of your sister," I tell him and he nods.
"I can take care of myself," Navya says a little irritated, and I can't help but see the resemblance she has with Avni.
"Yeah." I smile. "You take care of your brother."
She smiles cheerfully as she glances at Niam. They are no doubt very good and sensible kids and I won't take the credit for it. Mom, Bebe, Dad, and Alia do play an important role here. But they get a little crazy when they are around Fawzi and Ahad and I just hope they don't mess the home.
"Why didn't Avni come with you?" Foziah asks me as we walk to our cars.
"Uh, she is going with Mr. Arora." I shrug. "I think that would be good if he introduces her around to everyone as a business partner."
"Yeah." She smiles.
I look at them as she and Asad get in Asad's car and I wish I had Avni with me. Sometimes when I look at Asad and Foziah I can't help but think how better their lives are. Maybe it's good to not make a big deal out of everything, maybe we should see everything as normal that's when things look simpler.
Foziah is coming to the event as Asad's wife and not as a part of Khanna Corporation. DD will be joining me there directly.
I drive to the venue and I stop the car halfway when I see a car parked. I know that's Rayan's car so I pull my car beside him and roll down the window.
"How's everything going?" I ask him.
"I'm going to meet her tomorrow." He says and I nod.
"Be careful," I say before I drive off to the venue.
I really hope this girl helps us in any way and is not just someone wasting our time. It doesn't make sense to follow a girl who said her name was Ria. If it's really Ria I can manage her but if it's someone else I am just not able to understand why would someone want to use her name and talk to me.
Ria would have directly contacted me if she wanted and she isn't dumb to use her different social media accounts to text me as if I would start talking to her. Whoever has done this definitely doesn't have brains.
I get out of the car after I park it in a corner and I frown when I see Foziah waiting for me.
"Everything alright?" I ask as I walk to her.
"Why would you meet Rayan secretly?" She asks unbelievably. "I hope you realize Avni would hate this. I spoke to her and she doesn't like him one bit."
"I know. I am not interested to talk to him, it's just I have to. He is been helping me."
She looks at me for a moment and she sighs. "You know I feel you all are going too extreme. The problem is simpler than you all think."
"This is not simple." I shake my head. "Someone is out there wanting to kill me and Avni."
"I know." She sighs. "I don't think it's someone unknown. You know them, is there someone who you don't trust?"
"I trust everyone I know." I sigh. "I hope I am not being betrayed."
"Can I tell you something?" She asks seriously.
"Yeah." I nod.
"You are doing everything to keep your family safe, I know." She looks at me. "I don't think whatever you are doing is helping."
"That doesn't make sense." I frown.
"Tell me what benefit have you got by involving two undercover cops and a policeman?" She asks and I find myself struggling with an answer.
"Listen, Neil." She keeps her hand on my shoulder. "This isn't a huge crime scene or business enmity if it was police could have helped us. By tracking, and hacking whatever they do."
"This is a family thing. Someone wants you guys dead but they are afraid to get caught. That's why they appear and disappear." She looks at me. "They try to scare you or warn you I don't understand. Don't keep a bodyguard for Avni and keep reminding her she is in danger."
I look at her and I lower my gaze wondering what should I do. "I didn't want to interfere in all of these. I am sorry but it looks like you consider her weak."
"I don't." I frown as I look at her.
"You do." She nods. "Both of your lives are in danger. Why would you keep a bodyguard for her and not you?"
"I just want to keep her safe." I sigh.
"I know. I understand." She tells softly. "Do it in the right way. My dad said she isn't happy with him being her bodyguard. She doesn't want it, she is doing it for you."
I know it's selfish of me to want her to keep a bodyguard just so I am at peace that she is safe but this is the fear I have in me that I'll lose her again.
"There are different ways you can take care of her. Keep her location tracked if you want at least that won't remind her that you consider her weak."
I nod slowly as I glance at her dad who is standing near his car keeping his guard. He didn't even want me to pay him his salary, I think he just thought as police it was his duty or he came for Sara.
"Don't feel sad about it." She smiles. "I don't like it when Asad and I are in a problem and he thinks I need some special attention to keep me safe. That actually makes me feel like he thinks I am weak and I know deep down Avni gets this feeling. Don't make her feel lesser than you, she was an undercover cop."
She laughs and I chuckle slowly. Maybe I should just let her do it in her way and keep a track of her location. I definitely don't want her to feel that way, I always want us to be equal.
My wife isn't weak. She is damn strong.
"Thanks." I give her a small smile.
"I am sorry to interfere though." She shrugs. "I never want to involve myself in anyone's decisions but I just... thought I should talk to you."
"That's fine." I nod. "Uh, let your father know he can stop following her from tomorrow or today."
"I will." She nods and walks to Asad who has been patiently waiting for her.
I ignore Rayan when I enter inside and my eyes search for Avni. I see Mr. Arora in a corner talking with Mr. Patrick and I wonder where is Avni.
I walk inside and nod at people as they greet me and I am stopped twice by businessmen. My eyes impatiently search for Avni as I talk with them.
I excuse myself when I see her smiling and talking with Vidhyut. I clench my jaw at the sight and I walk to them feeling the anger stir in my chest.
"I can't wait to work with you." I hear him say to her when I approach them.
"I can't wait to work with my wife either," I say as I stand a few steps away from them.
Avni looks over her shoulder and smiles at me. Her eyes trail down my body before she looks up at my face and her smile fades a little when she sees the anger in my eyes.
I take two long strides and stand beside her. I put my arm around her waist and pull her closer to me as I watch Vidhyut looking at us with a chuckle.
"Still possessive, huh?" He asks with a chuckle. "Oh, sorry. Protective much, right?"
I clench my jaw as I glare at him. "That's right."
"I told you he wouldn't want you to work with me." He says as he looks at Avni.
I frown, why would she even want to work with him? He looks at her as if he is undressing her with his eyes. I don't like him at all.
Avni looks up at me before she looks back at him. "And I told you this is my business my decision. I can convince my husband."
I look at her and I want to tell her there is no fucking way I am going to let her work with him but I stay silent. I don't want him to see us arguing. I can't believe she didn't propose an agreement to me and is proposing to him.
"I'll see you around, Mrs. Khanna." He grins at her and she smiles at him. I couldn't hold myself from rolling my eyes at them.
"I hope you know I don't like him," I tell her slowly after he leaves.
"I don't need you to like him to work with him." She looks at me. "I am just trying to do business."
"Is there a problem going on here?" We look up as Neela maa walks over to us.
Avni and I glance at each other and we look away.
"What happened?" Neela maa asks concerned as she looks between us.
I sigh. "I can't believe she is looking forward to working with Mr. Pandit."
"I am doing my business. You can't decide who I work with or not." Avni looks at me in disbelief. "Don't try to make it seem like I'm doing a crime."
"I can't decide who you work with but I can let you know I am not comfortable with him working with you," I say trying to keep my calm. "I don't like the way he looks at you."
"Don't be ridiculous." She shakes her head. "I know things happened bad in past but I didn't feel uncomfortable with him today. I know whom to work with, I would back off myself he looked at me differently."
"Avni, I don't want him around you," I say exasperated.
"Give me a reason." She looks at me.
"Is me not liking him not a reason to you?" I look at her in disbelief.
"It's you being ridiculous." She rolls her eyes. "I can't stop working with someone only because you don't like them."
"I hope I ain't invisible here?" Neela maa asks and we both look away from each other.
"Neela maa, why did you stop doing partnership with them? Just tell her." I look at her hoping she will change her mind.
"Look, Neil." She exhales. "I have given her the company and I don't want to interfere in her decisions."
I look away. "I understand your concern and the reason why I stopped working with him is the same as you."
"I know and she should understand that, right?" I look at her.
"Don't get me in couple arguments." She smiles. "I am not saying anything because I genuinely want Avni to take decisions but as husband and wife, you guys can talk about it and solve this matter at home."
"It doesn't look like it is going to solve." Avni sighs beside me and I look at her.
"Now, why don't you guys go enjoy the dance?" She wiggles her eyebrows.
"That's exactly what we need now," Avni says sarcastically. I look away from her, I am still mad at her.
"Yeah." Neela maa smiles as she reaches out and puts our hands in each other. "You guys are dancing. Come on, it is your first business event together as CEO."
I look down at her hands and Avni doesn't grip my hand she just keeps her hand in mine. I grip her hand and drag her to the dance floor.
She looks up at me as we stand between couples dancing around to the music. I put my arm around her as I pull her flush against me and she gasps.
I look into her eyes as I lean down and move my lips closer to her ear. "An argument dance doesn't sound bad, does it?"
