Chapter 9: Introducing the bad boy
Grayson's POV
"Grayson Peter if you don't get out of bed in the next 5 seconds your phone is mine for the rest of the week."
I jump out of bed and ran to the door to yell back at my mom that I was awake, and getting ready for school.
Ugh I hate Monday's. If you ask me, they are literally the worst days every.
Everything bad happens on a Monday.
"Oh Grayson, don't forget that my friend Teresa is coming today with her daughter."
"Damn is that today," I mutter under my breath.
"Yes it is today, and don't say that word," my mom yells back!
How did she hear me?? I swear she has super hearing.
"Whatever," I yell back.
I don't wanna think about this new family coming it's just gonna stress me out, so I forget about them and jump in the shower to get ready for school.
This is gonna be one hell of a day.
After I'm finished getting ready i run down the stairs, kiss my mother goodbye, run out the door and jump in the car, ready to drive to school
As soon as I get there I pull into my parking spot that is always saved for me, cause I'm captain of the football team and basically the most popular person at Crosswell High.
When I walk through the the doors my best friends are waiting by my locker like they do everyday.
There are three other guys in my group.
First is Ben Smith. He also plays football, he plays right wing, while I play left. We've been best friends since I moved here from Illinois years ago. His nickname is Bean cause when we first met he was really shy and wouldn't speak up, so when he said his name, I thought he said Bean and it just kinda stuck.
Second we have none other then Alex Morgen. He's the womanizer of the group. He has a new "girlfriend" every week. But underneath all that annoying womanizing shit he does, he's a cool guy.
Third we have Nathan Cooper. He's the honest upstanding guy in the group. He keeps us out of jail and stuff.
And last but most certainly not least is me. I'm the bad boy. The one all the girls want, but can't have. The popular one that people kinda love but also kinda hate. I'm pretty great if I do say so myself!
"Yo Bean" I say as I round the corner and see them all waiting.
"Dude," says Alex. "Is that hot babe at your house yet?"
I assume he is referring to the daughter of my mom's friend moving into my house for the summer from America.
"Umm no, they arrive later tonight," I say giving him a look. "How do you know she's hot?"
"Dude we stalked her on Facebook and insta remember?"
"Um no."
"Ohh yeah, you fell asleep before I found any pictures," he says. "But trust me she's hot."
He gives me this weird look like he knows something I don't and I don't like it.
"Stop looking at me like that, you're creeping me out."
He starts laughing and all turn walking down the hallway, heading towards our first class of the day.
---------8 hours later---------
I'm staring at the clock. It's my last class of the day and the last class always seems to be the longest, even though it's the same length as every other class. The bell finally rings and I jump up, sprint out of the room, running down the hall and out the doors heading to my car, so I can get the hell out of this place.
When I finally get home my moms is running around like a chicken with its head cut off screaming at my brothers to clean up their rooms before our guests get here.
"Mom!!" I yell to get her attention. "I'm home."
She looks up at me and stairs right through me. It's like she doesn't even see me. She's done this a few times since dad died. As she stairs at me and I wonder what she's thinking and what she sees when she looks at me like that.
"Mom," I whisper.
She blinks a few times, shakes her head with a tear running down her cheek. She wipes it off, and smiles at me.
"Hi sweetie," she says softly. "I'm sorry"
That's all she needs to say, we both know that what just happened is over and we will never talk about it again.
"Go clean your room sweetheart" she says.
"Yes mom"
I run up my stairs and slam my door, before the tears start to slip from my eyes. Silently, so no one hears, I crawl in my bed curl up, and cry and cry and cry. Mad at the world. mad at my dad, mad at myself.
I don't know how long I stay there in my bed curled up, but eventually someone comes and knocks on my door to tell me that Teresa and her daughter, Samantha, are on there way from the airport. Telling me I need to be ready when they get here.
I stand up walk into the bathroom, wash my face and look in the mirror. The tear stains are still there but other then that, I know exactly who I see. Me. With the devil inside.
"They're here!!!!!" screams my mom. "Come on everyone."
I check the mirror one more time to make sure all traces of the tears are gone. When I'm happy with my appearance again, I walk down the stairs and out the door meeting my family in the drive way, as a taxi pulls up.
A beautiful women of maybe 30 years steps out and runs to embrace my mom. The two are yelling at each other about how good it is to see each other and blah, blah, blah.
The women steps away from my mother, and looks to me and my brothers.
"Hey!" she says, with a huge smile on her face, looking at me. "We met when you were much younger, so you probably don't remember me but my name is Teresa!"
"Aunt Teresa!" corrects my mother putting her arm around Teresa.
"Hello ma'am" I say politely.
"Eww," says Teresa making a face at me. "Please don't ever call me ma'am, that's a name used for old ladies."
She laughs and winks at me. I like her already.
She pauses and looks around as if realizing she's missing something. She steps to the side and yells at the girl standing behind her that I hadn't even noticed was standing there.
"Sam! Honey, come here I want you to meet Georgia and her boys."
I look closely at the girl she yelled at, realizing she is the most beautiful girl I've ever seen.
She has an oval shaped face, with long blonde hair that falls over her shoulders and she has a smooth tan skin. Her nose is perfectly shaped, slightly sloped upward... She has a natural beauty, the kind you get without wearing makeup. Her eyes are light brown, coffee colored. Her body is amazing and petite, she's sexy. Everything about her is just perfect.
Damn, Bean wasn't kidding when he said she was hot.
She starts walking toward us but she trips on something and falls face first on the drive way.
I try really hard not to laugh but my brothers don't use as much discretion. They both bust into laughter and when she stands up her cheeks are red with embarrassment and it's honestly the cutest thing I've ever seen.
The closer she gets to us the more beautiful she becomes.
"Sam! You're so clumsy, you honestly get it from your father. How are you doing sweetie? Long time no see, huh?" says my mom to her.
She just kinda stands there staring blankly at my mom.
"Hi. Kinda tired from the trip, but I'll get over it. Um, yeah, really long." she replies trying to sound like she knows who my mother is, but isn't doing a good job convincing anyone.
"You don't remember me, do you?" asks my mom.
"Sorry, I honestly don't," she replies sheepishly. Like she expects my mom to get upset with her for not remembering someone she hasn't seen in years.
"Oh, well, it has been a while. I'm Georgia and these are my three boys. These two are my twins, Jorge and Aiden," she says signaling to my younger brothers. "And this is my oldest."
"Hey, I'm Grayson." I say smirking.
I think my smirk caught her off guard cause she looked surprised and a little scared.
"Huh, I'm Sam." she said hesitantly.
"Delighted to meet you." I said back, still with my smirk.
"Same goes to you..." she says, a little more sweetly this time. Like she's warming up to me or something which is not what I want.
She's extremely hot yes, but I do not want a girlfriend so I need to stay as far away from her as I can.
Our mothers left with the twins, to go into the house, so I turn my back on her and walk toward the door.
I expect her to follow so when I get to the from door and realize she's not behind me i turn back to check on her.
"Are you coming or what?" I call over my shoulder turning back around so she doesn't see that I was looking at her.
I think about running over to her and offering to help with her bags.
But no I can't do it, she's making me feel weird, like I need to make sure she's ok and that I need to protect her, which is weird because I don't even really know this girl.
I mean sure we were best friends when we were like 5 but ALOT has changed sense then.
"Oh yeah of course," she yells back.
I walk into the house and head straight for the kitchen. When I walk in my mother and Teresa are sitting around the table chatting about who knows what.
"Where's Sam?" asks my mom as soon as I walk in.
"She's right....." I start to say as I turn around then realize she's not behind me anymore.
Ugh where is that girl. As I walk back into the living room I grab an apple. I walk though the door and then I see her looking at some pictures of me and my dad when I was little and he was still alive.
"Like what you see Sammy?" I ask trying out an old nickname.
"My name is Sam not Sammy." she replies.
"Technically, it's Samantha."
"How would you know it's Samantha? My name could just as well be Sam." she tells me
"Because, Sam is a shorter version of Samantha... and your mom might have just old me." I chuckle. You and I both know Teresa didn't just tell me Sammy's name but we'll just keep that between us.
"Well, I don't really like the nickname, Sammy, I'm not a dog."
"Well, that's too bad, because I do." she's sassy, I like that. But so am I so I can dish it out just as well as she serves it.
She sighs and walks into the kitchen. When we walk in both our mothers stop talking.
"Hi Sam, take a seat. Do you want anything to drink? You must be thirsty from all of that traveling." my mom addresses Sammy as soon as she walks in.
"Sure, I'll have some water, please," she says sweetly. "Thank you."
"Oh, honey, my family and I used to live in Chicago, we were your next door neighbors. You and Grayson were best friends! I'm surprised you don't remember. You guys used to take baths together, naked. It was seriously the cutest thing ever! You were only five, so that explains why you wouldn't remember very well, but Grayson sure does."
"Mom! Do we really have to do this now?" I say groaning.
"Ugh..." she mumbles in embarrassment. She gets this look on her face and I know she's remembering when we were kids and used to spend all our time playing together. "So, what made you move to Aussie?" she says and I'm thankful for the topic change.
"Well you see, my husband, John, was Australian, but he went to the U.S for an internship and we met. After a while we fell in love, but the internship was over. Of course, I was depressed, I missed him so much, but we kept it long distance . As a surprise he moved to the States and he asked me to marry him, I was so happy. We got married and had Grayson. John got offered a great job here, in Sydney, so we moved. After years of living here, I had Jorge and Aiden, but he passed away right after. Australia just became home for me, I've never thought about going back to Illinois."
"Oh, I'm so sorry for your loss." she says.
"There's nothing to be sorry about, it's not your fault. He's in a better place now, with your father." my mom said with a sad grin.
We all sit in awkward silence.
I don't know how this happened. Everything was normal and now the air just feels tense. I see my mom open her mouth.
"Grayson sweetie, do mind showing Sam her room? She is probably exhausted."
"Sure." I say trying to sound calm.
"Meanwhile, I'll show you to your room, Teresa" she says signaling to Sammy's mom.
I starting walking up the stairs. "Hey, do you mind helping? They're kinda heavy..."
"You can manage on your own." I say. I'm annoyed. She's the reason we started talking about my dad and the reason both our moms are sad now.
"I obviously can't. I'm tripping over my own two feet," she says with annoyance lacing her voice.
"That's your problem." I say back. I am in no mood to deal with her.
"Fine..." she sighs.
"Here's your room." I say opening the door for her.
"Thanks, I love it." she says.
"Yeah, well don't get used to it. You're not staying here for long." I say bored. I don't want her here if she's gonna make my mother keeping reliving the saddest moment of her life.
"I know. It's just until my mom can find a house."
"Good." I state.
I'm cooled off now and ready to help her with her bags. I reached down to get the bags but I didn't realize she was getting her bags at the same time, and just as she put her hands on the bag I put mine right over hers.
Damn.
What was that weird feeling running up my arms? Why did I all the sudden have the undeniable urge to grab her and kiss her forever.
No, no, no. This is not happening. I pull my hands back and walk out of the room as fast as I can.
I run to my room, locking the door, breathing heavily.
What the fuck just happened?
