Chapter 6: A dog's name.

Sitting next to a smelly oversized man, seeing an old lady's ass and then falling in front of probably the most attractive guy on earth, is not fun. The trip here has been pretty hectic.

As soon as I get up from my humiliating fall, I walk in fast paste towards my mom, hiding my flushed face. Going from the driveway to the porch feels like an eternity, when honestly, it's only been seconds, but all of their stares burning into me makes it all feel lots longer.

"Sam! You're so clumsy, you honestly get it from your father. How are you doing sweetie? Long time no see, huh?" Says my moms friend.

"Hi. Kinda tired from the trip, but I'll get over it. Um, yeah, really long." I say shyly. If I'm going to be real here, I don't even know who she is, but she's an old friend of my mom's, so I might have seen her when I was a child. The lady looks at me in awe, probably thinking I'm a clueless innocent little kid, but then her face turns serious.

"You don't remember me, do you?

"Sorry, I honestly don't"

"Oh, well, it has been a while. I'm Georgia and these are my three boys. These two are my twins, Jorge and Aiden," She says signaling to the two younger ones. "and this is my oldest."

"Hey, I'm Grayson." The older one says smirking.

Right when he opens his mouth, I freeze. Not only is he hot and has an extremely attractive name, but his accent is such a turn on. I stare at him for a while, looking at the smirk plastered on his face. "huh, I'm Sam."

"Delighted to meet you."

"Same goes to you...". Our mothers had gone inside with the twins leaving us both standing in awkward silence. He turns his back on me walking towards the front door, while I stand in the same position, not knowing what to do. Do I follow him or something?

"Are you coming or what?"

"Oh! Yeah, of course." I say. When I enter the house, it immediately feels like I'm home. The walls are a creamy pastel color and the floor is covered in carpet. I watch carefully as Grayson disappears into a room, I start to follow him but I see a shelf with books and photographs, in one of the pictures I see a small little family. A younger version of Georgia is in the frame, she's absolutely gorgeous; there's a man who has his arm around her, kissing her cheek softly, it must be her husband. I study the picture a bit longer and notice a little boy in the photo, who is smiling right back at me, and he looks just like Grayson. Seeing them all laughing makes me smile. It's a simple picture, but I feel like there's so much more to it.

"Like what you see Sammy?"

I look up to see an amused Grayson eating an apple watching me from the doorframe, of what seems to be the kitchen. "My name is Sam, not Sammy." I reply smoothly.

"Technically, it's Samantha."

"How would you know it's Samantha? My name could just as well be Sam." I say.

"Because, Sam is a shorter version of Samantha... and your mom might have just told me." He chuckles.

"Well, I don't really like the nickname Sammy, I'm not a dog."

"Well, that's too bad, because I do." Grayson says mimicking me.

I sigh and follow my mother's voice, that leads me right into the kitchen. The kitchen is nice and wide. Georgia and mom are seated around the island talking, until they both stop speaking and look up at me.

"Hi Sam, take a seat. Do you want anything to drink? You must be thirsty from all of that traveling." Georgia says.

"Sure, I'll have some water, please". She immediately gets me a cup of cold ice water, setting it down on the table. "Thank you." I say gratefully.

"Oh, honey, my family and I used to live in Chicago, we were your next door neighbors. You and Grayson were best friends! I'm surprised you don't remember. You guys used to take baths together, naked. It was seriously the cutest thing ever! You were only five, so that explains why you wouldn't remember very well, but Grayson sure does."

"Mom! Do we really have to do this now?" Grayson says groaning.

"Ugh..."I mumble in embarrassment. I remember having a next door neighbor that was my friend, but I never really thought about where he disappeared to... I wonder why they moved to Australia. "So, what made you move to Aussie?" I say, deciding to change the subject.

"Well you see, my husband, John, was Australian, but he went to the U.S for an internship and we met. After a while we fell in love, but the internship was over. Of course, I was depressed, I missed him so much, but we kept it long distance . As a surprise he moved to the States and he asked me to marry him, I was so happy. We got married and had Grayson. John got offered a great job here, in Sydney, so we moved. After years of living here, I had Jorge and Aiden, but he passed away right after. Australia just became home for me, I've never thought about going back to Illinois."

"Oh, I'm so sorry for your loss". Being a single lady and having three boys, it's probably really hard for her. When she tells me about her husband's death, I look over at mom. She seems sad. Georgia talking about John's death is probably a reminder of dad. She misses him, just like I do.

"There's nothing to be sorry about, it's not your fault. He's in a better place now, with your father." Georgia says giving me a sad grin.

I look around the kitchen and everyone is quiet. Mom, Georgia, Grayson and I are all sitting down awkwardly, not daring to look at each other. Everyone in this room has lost an important person, so the topic is hard, for all of us.

I don't know how this happened. Everything was normal and now the air just feels tense. I see Georgia open her mouth.

"Grayson sweetie, do mind showing Sam her room? She is probably exhausted."

"Sure." Grayson says calmly.

"Meanwhile, I'll show you to your room, Teresa" she says signaling to my mom.

I follow Grayson up the stairs quietly, caring my heavy bags, receiving no help from him. "Hey, do you mind helping? Their kinda heavy..."

"You can manage on your own."

"I obviously can't. I'm tripping over my own two feet." I say

"That's your problem."

"Fine..." I sigh. Why does he have to be such a dick? Did I do anything to offend him? I see him turn around the corner, loosing sight of him. I walk a little faster and I see him enter a room.

"Here's your room."

"Thanks, I love it." I say. The room isn't big, but it's just the right size. The walls are a light blueish/grayish color, with pictures of Sydney all over them. It's a queen sized bed, that takes up most of the room, with a big window next to the bed giving me a great view of Sydney. It's small and cozy and makes me want to rap myself up in the bed and watch Netflix and do nothing else for days.

"Yeah, well don't get used to it. You're not staying here for long." He says in a boring voice.

"I know. it's just until my mom can find a house."

"Good." He states.

I pickup my bags getting ready to carry them into the room, when suddenly I feel warm hands touch mine. I look up confused, only to see Grayson staring at me.
