Erza's POV

After Christmas comes another great celebration, right? Right. And that is...

New year!

Today is the last day of the year and tomorrow is New Year's Day! I couldn't wait! Fireworks, new classes, new students, New Year's resolution, new everything, New Year!

"Erza!" Lucy shouted from downstairs. "Hurry up! We're leaving!"

"I'm coming, I'm coming!" I yelled a reply back. I was in my room upstairs, doing my hair while the others waited downstairs in my house.

"Can you guys stop shouting?" Natsu shouted.

"Hypocrite!" I shouted back.

I quickly slipped on some Converses and rushed downstairs. Natsu, Lucy, Gray and Jellal were sitting on my couch watching TV. When they saw me come, they turned it off.

"Geez, why do girls have to take so long?" Natsu asked.

"Hey! We do not" Lucy slapped Natsu's arm jokingly.

"Stop fighting. We better go now since you guys took so long" Gray said.

Before Lucy could make another remark, I grabbed her arm and dragged her outside. Once all five of us were outside and ready to go, we started walking down the road. We were all going to dinner and then to see the fireworks for New Year. It was just our gang, except Jellal who was an exception.

"Great! We're late now because of girls!" Natsu complained.

"Shut up!" Lucy yelled.

"Don't worry, Lucy. He's not angry at you; he's angry at me because I took too long" I told her and that seemed to calm her down.

"Plus, I think girls are amazing" Jellal said as he wrapped his arm around my waist.

"See Natsu, Jellal's a better boyfriend than you" Gray smirked.

"What?! Well, I don't see you being a better boyfriend. You haven't even asked Juvia out yet" Natsu remarked proudly.

Gray blushed at the mention of Juvia. "Umm, I actually did ask Juvia out. After the Christmas party, I took her to a café and then to the park - where I asked her to be my girlfriend, so now we're official."

"Oh my god!" Lucy squealed and gave me the 'we have to talk to Juvia' look.

"Congratulations" I patted Gray's back.

"Wow, I can't believe you finally got the balls to do that" Natsu exclaimed.

Gray rolled his eyes and punched Natsu's shoulder. Then we stopped walking to see the diner, 8 Island, in front of us. We entered and took a table for five. I looked at the menu and found what I wanted to eat.

"Hi, I'm... oh, it's you" Evergreen walked up to us and snarled. She was wearing the 8 Island orange waitress uniform and she had a notepad in her hand. Wow, I didn't realise she worked at this diner.

Evergreen sighed. "Hi, I'm Evergreen and I'll be your waitress for today. Can I get you some drinks to start off with?" Evergreen asked with a fake smile on her lipstick lips.

"I'll take a lemonade" I said.

Lucy and Jellal ordered water while Natsu and Gray ordered coke. Evergreen wrote them down and then scurried away. While we waited, we just had some small talk about what we would do for the rest of the holidays. Then Freed in a waiter's outfit walked up to our table, carrying a tray of drinks.

"Hello, I'm Freed. Due to some complications, Evergreen had to serve other tables so I'm your new waiter. Here are your drinks" Freed explained while putting our drinks in front of us.

"Serve other tables? More like she refused to serve our table" I muttered with an eye roll.

Jellal, who seemed to have heard me, chuckled.

"Now, what may I get you?" Freed asked in a too polite voice for my liking. He was part of Laxus' group, who were always egotistical, popular and mean to the 'nerds'.

Everyone ordered their food and Freed sent a flirty wink to Lucy. Then it was my turn to order.

"So beautiful, what can I get you?" Freed asked flirtatiously. God, this guy was such a player.

I just ordered my food awkwardly and tried to avoid his gaze.

"Would you like my number with that?" Freed winked at me seductively.

Before I could say anything, Jellal stood up and before I could stop him, he punched Freed in the face. Everyone gasped and I rushed to stop him.

"Don't ever hit on my girlfriend" Jellal threatened.

He never got angry like this but I guess no one ever hit on me before like that. I gently tugged on his arm and he reluctantly sat back down. Freed covered his bleeding nose and ran to the kitchen.

"Way to go Jellal!" Natsu cheered and pumped his fist in the air.

We all sweat dropped. I looked around and saw that some people in the diner saw that but just ignored it. Wow, I seriously don't get how the staff didn't see that. I guess it's good though, otherwise we would have been kicked out.

"You shouldn't have done that. It was a bit... over the top" I said softly to Jellal, while putting my hand on his hand.

"I know. I'm sorry; I didn't mean to. It just got me angry how he was flirting with you and I guess I went a bit overboard" Jellal apologised.

"It's okay" I said.

A few minutes later, Laxus came to our table wearing the waiter uniform and carrying trays of food. I raised an eyebrow. Did they have to change waiters again?

Laxus sighed. "Due to some injuries, I'll be your waiter. Here is your food" he said, skipping his name since we knew him.

He put our food down and we started digging in. I watched as Laxus walked away but stopped shortly when Mirajane entered the diner with her siblings. I'm not too sure if I saw right but I think I saw he had a weird emotion in his eyes. Laxus immediately went over to take her to a table and probably forgot about us.

"Are you guys excited for next year?" Lucy asked.

We all nodded our heads as a yes, except for Natsu who paused. "Wait, isn't next year tomorrow?" Natsu asked confused.

We all sweat dropped and sighed. I don't know how he is so... daft. Then I finished my food and waited for everyone else to finish their food. I was thinking of getting strawberry cheesecake for dessert but I decided not to. I mean, not everything is about strawberry cheesecake. It's not like the words 'strawberry cheesecake' are on the story of my life.

"Hello, I'm Bickslow. Here is your bill" Bickslow came up to us and said.

Really? Bickslow? Another waiter? We've had, like, four different waiters. Are we really that bad? Evergreen hated us, Freed got punched in the face by Jellal and Laxus probably ditched us for Mirajane.

"Thank you" I said to Bickslow before he walked away.

I paid for the meal – after arguing with everyone else about who should pay – and we exited the diner.

Since the fireworks weren't until midnight, we just walked around the city for a bit. We bought some ice cream to eat and then went into an arcade. I grabbed Jellal's hand and took him around to so many games which was really fun. Then all five of us played the car racing game and I came second. After that, we got some toys from the tickets we won. We walked out of the arcade and along the path to the clearing where the fireworks were.

We sat down on the grass and stared up at the starry sky.

"I can't wait to see the fireworks" I sighed and leaned my head on Jellal's shoulder.

"I'm glad I get to spend New Year's Day with you" Jellal replied.

"Same."

We laid there comfortably in silence, except for the other three's chatter in the background. After a few minutes, the countdown was heard.

"10... 9... 8... 7... 6... 5... 4... 3... 2... 1!"

It was midnight and now a new year.

The fireworks shot into the sky and burst into thousands of colourful sparkles spread across the dark sky. People 'oohed' and 'aahed' as colour after colour flew into the sky and exploded, lighting up the pitch black night. It was so beautiful; it looked like everyone was mesmerized by it, and even I was.

"It's beautiful" I sighed.

"Yes, you are" Jellal said.

I giggled and rolled my eyes. "I was talking about the fireworks."

"Yeah, they do look beautiful" Jellal replied while looking deep into my eyes.

Then Lucy, Natsu and Gray came crashing into us, causing us to fall onto our back. I'm really glad Gray doesn't feel like the 5th wheel but hopefully, when he goes out with Juvia, she can join us and he won't be left out. We rolled around on the grass and mucked around for a while. 

The fireworks that were booming up in the sky finally came to a finish after doing some cool designs. People cheered and clapped. Balloons were being handed around and there were some food stalls; it was like a festival for New Year. All around, I saw couples kissing.

"Let's all make New Year resolutions!" Lucy exclaimed.

Everyone then made their resolutions. I closed my eyes and made mine as well. No, I'm not going to tell you what my resolution was because I don't feel like telling you.

"And our New Year's kiss!" again, Lucy said and kissed Natsu. Then they started making out.

I rolled my eyes but nevertheless, leaned into Jellal and kissed him. As our lips moved against each other, my hand travelled to his neck and he put his arms around my waist. We leaned our foreheads on each other's as we took a breath.

"Happy New Year" Jellal whispered to me.

I smiled. "Happy New Year."
