[11] Complicated
We left right after the guys and went back to the apartment to get ready for their game. I am honestly so embarrassed that I fell asleep on Logan. It just reeks of the kind of thing that happens in books, not real life. In the books it's so cute, and makes me feel all giddy and excited. I am not feeling that right now. When I woke up and found us in that position, I am sure my face was beet red. Since I have pale skin, I can't hide a blush to save my life, so I am sure he saw it.
At this point I don't think there is any reason to lie to myself. I like Logan. Before he was just hot, but our conversations at the coffee shop really changed my mind about him. He's struggling just as bad as I am, and it's nice to have someone to talk to that understands that. Which is why my developing feelings are a problem.
For starters, I don't even think he feels the same way, and even if he did, who's to say it would last? Or that he would even want a relationship? There's definitely a spark between us, but is it worth risking a friendship for?
Plus, I really like my friend group and if it didn't work out, I am sure I would be the one that got excluded. I am the newest in the group and Josh is Logan's best friend. I doubt Morgan is going to stop hanging out with her brother so that leaves me on the outside.
I got so lucky with this group full of wonderful people, and I'm not sure I am ready to throw that all away for a What if.
I am pulled out of my thoughts when Kaitlyn comes in with outfit options. It's getting colder, so layers is definitely my friend.
"What about this? I know Morgan didn't pick it out cause she's in the shower but still...it could be cute, and it doesn't have anybody's number on the back so we don't have to worry about Logan freaking out about it." She holds up a dark green PHU crewneck that says "Let's Go Panthers" on it.
I roll my eyes and take the shirt. "Logan doesn't care what I wear Kait, when are you going to let that go?"
"I can't let it go because he has never acted this way Harper!" I turn to look at her. Without missing a beat she continues. "I bet it was like an ego thing. He has a thing for you and he couldn't handle you were wearing another guys jersey. He SO wants you to wear his."
"If he wants me to wear his why doesn't he just ask me?"
"Because he doesn't know that he's in love with you yet." My eyes go wide at her statement. Has she gone crazy?
"Do you even hear yourself?" I laugh. "Logan and I are just friends okay? We've come a long way since the milkshake thing and I don't want to make it weird okay? So can we talk about something else? Your love life maybe?"
I am met by silence. She is so totally hiding something.
"Oh my god who is it?" I squeal. Kaitlyn jumps a little, startled by my outburst, and quickly shuts the door.
"Nobody okay? Could you keep your voice down?"
"What? Why?" I ask.
"Because it's complicated."
I smirk. "So there is someone."
"Yes- well not really, like I said it's complicated."
"Do you want to talk about it? I mean, you know Tristian so... I'm just saying I'm here to talk. If you need to."
She thinks about it, then sighs before speaking. "It's... Josh."
I hesitate, making sure I heard her correctly. "Josh?!" I whisper yell, glancing at the door. "Morgan's brother Josh?"
She hangs her head low. "It happened freshman year, at a party. I didn't know that he was Morgan's brother when it happened, but we hooked up at a party. I knew Morgan had a twin, and I knew I was going to meet him that night, but I had no idea that when Morgan introduced us, I was going to see the guy I had just fucked ten minutes ago."
"I, uh...wow." I am in total shock. This is huge. I guess I can see it now. It's subtle, but there is definitely some tension still there. He just kind of gravitates towards her when she is in the room, or they are always defending each other. If she had never pointed it out, I would just think they were good friends, but now I can't unsee it.
She puts her head in her hands, flopping onto my bed next to me. "See I told you it was complicated."
"What happened after that? And does Morgan know?"
"After that he told me it was a mistake. And that it wouldn't happen again. And no, she doesn't know and I'd like to keep it that way." I nod. "You're secrets safe with me."
"Thanks. I really just want to move on, but it's literally impossible when he's always there." She sighs. I understand. There might be something there still, but if neither of them are willing to explore it, there's no point in Kaitlyn just waiting around.
"Well now you got me, and we are going to get you a date. And soon. It's about time you got yourself a man." I giggle, walking to my closet and getting dressed. I pull on dark ripped jeans to go with the crewneck. If all goes well, we are going to a club tonight so I throw on a white lacey top to go underneath. Not appropriate for the game, but definitely the vibe for tonight. I am finishing my hair and makeup when Morgan comes bursting through the door, looking great as always.
"OoOo I love your hair like that Harp! The bow really suits you." She looks towards Kaitlyn. "You ready too?" Kaitlyn nods yes, and she beams. "Alright! Let's go!"
She practically drags us out the door, and by the time we get there, the game is just about to start. I brought my camera, just in case I get a few good shots from the stands.
We are like the second row from the front, so I don't have to zoom in too much to take pictures. As I am looking into the Viewfinder, I see Logan scanning the crowd. When he looks in my direction, he smiles. Click. Oops. My finger slipped... Even though he probably has no idea I took that picture, I feel awkward so I wave. Was he even looking at me? Probably not, and now I just made it weird by assuming he was.
Whether or not the smile was meant for me, he saw me waving and pointed at me. Okay, that could have been worse.
"Oh my god that man is so in love and he doesn't even know it!" Morgan laughs.
"RIGHT?! That's what I said." Kaitlyn shrieks. I just roll my eyes. We are just friends. Friends that... cuddle? I don't have time to dwell on it because the game starts, and the chaos in my head seems to stop as Logan and the guys step onto the field.

It's going to be close. Kyle had told me the other team was good, but right now we are down by three with thirty seconds left. It's third down, and we are at the thirty-five yard line. It's within field goal range so we could tie, but we'll need a touchdown to win. I hold my breath as the ball is snapped back to Logan, who scans the field. He must see something I don't because he throws it towards Josh who is running as fast as he can away from his defender. For a minute it looks like he may have overthrown it, but Josh jumps up and catches it, before falling right into the endzone.
I'm on my feet and screaming within seconds, and the boys celebrate their win on the field.
We make our way down to outside the locker room, and the minute the boys see us, their faces break into smiles. They start to hoot and holler, still riding the high of their win. Josh goes straight for Morgan, scooping her off the ground and spinning her around. "Did you see that catch?!" He laughs, jumping up and down, while Morgan is flailing around.
We all laugh. "YES I DID YOU MORON NOW LET ME DOWN!" She screams, still being tossed around like a rag doll. Once Josh sets her down, the girls start to hug and high five them, so I take it as my que to finally break my silence and congratulate Logan. I turn to him to tell him good game, but he's already wrapping his arms around me. Unlike Morgan, I am not lifted up off the ground. He wrapped his arms around my shoulders so my head rests right on his pec as he pulls me into his, extremely solid, chest.
"Good game, that was an incredible throw." I laugh as I wrap my own arms wrap around him. His smiles down at me. "Really? You saw?" He beams.
"Of course I did. I was nervous at first, I thought you overthrew it at first, but it was a perfect throw."
"Oh so you're a girl who understands her football huh?" He grins, breaking the hug.
I shrug. "I mean yeah I know the basics. I used to watch football with my dad." Before Logan can say anything else, Kyle slings his arm around me, interrupting our conversation. "Sooo how's Gibby's sound?"
Gibby's is the best club on campus. I personally have never been there, but I've heard good things. "I'm down, up to you guys."
We decided to go there, and so far we have been here for an hour and a half and Logan has not left my side. And while I appreciate the gesture, it's getting annoying. I go to the bar to get a drink? He's right behind me. I need to go to the bathroom, he's waiting for me outside the door.
I get it, Halloween scared me too. It scared all of us. But nobody else is obsessing this hard over staying by my side. I've noticed that everyone is a little more aware of their surroundings, but Logan has made it his mission to be my own personal bodyguard. At first, it was sweet. But it needs to stop.
I am sitting on a barstool right now, so I swivel around to face him. Putting on the sweetest smile I could muster, I bat my eyelashes at him. "Logan?"
His eyes are still looking around the bar, but once he hears me say his name he looks down at me. "Yes?"
I know his intentions are good, which is why I so feel bad for telling him this. "You're really killing my mood." I state.
"Well that just hurts, Strawberry." He feigns hurt by putting his hand over his heart.
"How am I supposed to have fun with you hovering all night?" I pout.
"I'm sorry, I just... don't want anything to happen to you." He sighs.
I put my hand on his arm, squeezing it a little. "And while I appreciate that, I wanted to have a fun night with my friends, and you should be celebrating. I can't have fun with you hovering."
You can have fun with me." He laughs
I quirk my eyebrows. "Really?" He nods. "Yes Harper, I am actually a very fun guy to be around."
"Oh really? I have yet to meet this fun Logan."
Laughing, he leans in, putting his hands on the bar on either side of me, caging me in. "Well he doesn't show up for just anybody. If I was nice and fun all the time nobody would respect me as captain."
I try to ignore the butterflies in my stomach that flutter when he's this close. "Well, I am not one of your teammates, and I want to dance. So are you coming or not?"
I didn't think he would actually follow me out here, but I can feel him just a few steps behind me. I look around for my friends, and spot Kyle making out with a very blonde, very tan girl in one corner of the club. Morgan, Kaitlyn, and Josh are at the table, talking to another group of people. One of the guys is in a deep conversation with Kaitlyn from the looks of it. Her head is propped up on one of her hands and she is listening intently and smiling, laughing at whatever they guy is saying. Get it girl.
I find a good spot near the middle of the dance floor. Logan is still right behind me, but he definitely isn't glued to my backside like he was before. I can tell the dance floor is not where he is most comfortable, but I am willing to bet he can dance.
"So, is fun logan going to come out to play, or am I going to dance alone?" I say, holding my hand out for him to take.
To my surprise, he breaks out into a grin and grabs my hand, twirling me in the process. I feel like a little kid again, and for a few songs we just do the most horrendous dance moves we can think of. Maybe we really can make this friends thing work?
By the time we leave, I am exhausted. A good exhausted. I didn't drink too much, so I shouldn't have a hangover tomorrow. Morgan on the other hand, I am not so sure. After helping the girls get into our Uber, I am about to get in myself when Logan stops me.
"Text me when you get home, okay?" He asks. I can tell he is worried.
"That would be hard considering I don't have your number." I reply, laughing.
"Give me your phone." He asks, but it's not a question. I hand it over and he types his number into it, sending himself a text so he has mine.
"Perfect." I grin. "Good night Logan. I had fun. Really."
He smirks. "See, I told you I was fun." He shuts the door and the driver starts the route to our apartment. I fight the urge to look out the window at the beautiful brown eyed boy as we drive away.
When we get back, I be sure to text him.
H: Made it home.
L: Good :) Now I can sleep. Night Strawberry.
I smile at my phone as I drift off to sleep.
