[10] Smile, You're on Camera

When I wake up, I can't feel my arm. I look to the side of me, and I see Harper's sleeping body next to me. She is cuddled up into my side and sleeping so peacefully. My arm is stuck beneath her, and while I want to regain feeling in my arm, I don't know if it's worth waking her up. She had such a rough night on Halloween, and she looks so carefree when she is sleeping. I don't want to ruin that.

Something changed that night. Before that I just kind of ignored her. Yeah she was friends with my friends, but that didn't mean I had to be, right? No unnecessary distractions. But since that night, I don't want to let her out of my sight. When I look at her, I see Alice. I don't want my little sister to grow up thinking my parents relationship is the standard, and find herself in one like Harper did.

I meant what I said to her at Sips. Her ex will never come near her again. I want her to feel safe here. No one should have to look over their shoulder 24/7.

Waking up next to her wasn't a surprise. When the movie was over I realized everyone was passed out, including Harper. I mean, even Kaitlyn had her head rested on Josh's shoulder, so I figured, what's the harm? I didn't want to wake her up.

I continue to look at her sleeping face, honestly mesmerized by how long her eyelashes are. But then I hear the sound of a camera. Kyle is standing above me, phone in hand. "Sorry Logan, class project." He runs away before I can kill him. He's lucky she's still on my arm, or he would be nursing a very severe wedgie right about now.

The commotion makes Harper stir, and I see her beautiful eyes start to flutter open. When she notices our position, she jumps up a little. "Sorry. I didn't mean to fall asleep on you." She blushes, and god it's adorable.

"Nah, it's okay. I fell asleep too." I lie. She smiles and gets herself up off the bean bag. She holds her hand out to help me up. I raise an eyebrow at her.

"You do know I'm heavier than you right?"

"So?"

"Harper, if I take your hand, your just going to land right back on this bean bag."

She narrows her eyes at me. "I'm not as weak as I look Logan. Grab my damn hand."

Deciding it's probably better to do what she says, I take her hand. As always, I feel like I am being electrocuted by her touch. It shoots up my arm the second our hands meet, but I am brought back to reality when she tugs on my hand and helps me up.

"Alright muscles, point proven." I laugh. She grins. "See? I told you!"

Josh comes out of his room upstairs, yelling from the top of the staircase. "Yo! Stop flirting with each other and get ready Logan! Coach wants us on the field in thirty!"

The game. I almost forgot about it. We are playing against Greenfield today. It will be a tough game. They only had like two starters graduate last year so their team is like a well oiled machine.

After throwing some new clothes on I head out, getting in the car with the guys. Josh is driving, and Kyle's the backseat because he knows if he gets in the front it will be his last day on Earth.

Closing the door, we get on are way. The car is eerily quiet. "What?" I ask.

"Nothing..." Kyle says suspiciously. I glare at him. "What? Tell me."

Josh sighs. "We think you should go for it, man."

"What are you talking about?"

"With Harper." Kyle chimes in. When are they going to let this go?

"I told you, I don't like her."

"Yeah and clearly you were lying."

"No, I wasn't." Alright, I wasn't lying when they asked me before, but I might be lying right now. Halloween showed me that I definitely care for this girl. Not that I wouldn't have had a similar reaction if it were Morgan or Kaitlyn, but the terror and rage that flowed through me when I saw that guy with her... I can't pretend that that's nothing.

"Alright...maybe I like her a little. But is it really worth getting distracted right now? You know what football means to me." I tell them.

"Maybe, maybe not man. But you won't know unless you try." Kyle pipes from the backseat.

"Kyle you said it yourself, she deserves someone great." I sigh, looking out the window.

"How do you know you aren't? Stop cutting yourself short man." Josh adds. "You may be a dick sometimes, but to the people you care about, you are the most loyal guy I've ever met."

"Yeah and I can tell you really care about her bro. Just go for it. What's the worst that can happen?" Kyle asks.

So many things could go wrong. I've never had a girlfriend before. No girl ever made me want more than a hookup. And I don't even know for sure that I could promise Harper a relationship. For one, I think I'd be terrible at it. But also, football has gotta be my number one priority right now.

"What if I sleep with her and this feeling goes away? You know it could happen, and then what? Huh?" I might as well just say it. I think Harper is a great girl and she definitely deserves more than that. I just don't know what would happen if we crossed that line. Honestly, both options terrify me.

Josh glances at me. "I think you know that what you feel for her is more than that. Maybe it started out as lust, but it's more than that now man."

"And you can keep lying to yourself, but Harper is an amazing girl. She's smart, funny, and absolutely beautiful. I'm sure we aren't the only ones to notice it, and if you don't man up soon someone else is going to beat you to it."

I feel my jaw clench at the thought. I don't like the idea of her going out with another guy. I don't like the idea of her lips on someone that isn't me. I haven't even kissed her yet, but the thought makes my knuckles turn white. I hate a lot of things about that scenario, but the thing I hate the most is that Kyle is right.

******************************

This chapter is shorter than pervious ones, but do we like the shorter chapters more? Let me know if the other ones are too long! I could easily make chapters shorter if it makes it an easier read for you all!

What do we think Logan is going to do? Maybe this is just the push he needs!
