Epilogue
"Jellal!" I shouted. "Where's Ruby's favourite doll?"
All I could hear was the cries of our baby and I tried to calm her down but right now, she just wanted her favourite toy. It was a struggle multitasking as I ran around the nursery room looking for it while stopping in front of her to give her silly faces and whilst trying to zip up my dress.
Ruby, sitting on the floor crying, had the features of her dad yet had my red hair (which became the inspiration for her name). On our honeymoon, we tried for a child and weren't lucky but a few months later we had the good news that I was pregnant. Now, she was two years old and growing as cheeky as her father and tough as her mother.
As the years went by, we had ups and downs with life and a child but got through it with the help of family and friends. Natsu and Lucy had their wedding nearly a year after we got back from our honey moon and Gajeel and Levy had theirs more than a year later. All of them also had rough patches but we helped one another. It was now around two years after Gajeel and Levy's wedding and today was Gray and Juvia's wedding since they spent a lot of time travelling around the world together.
"It's in the living room!" Jellal shouted back.
I yelled back a 'thanks' as I ran into the room and grabbed the doll that was lying on the couch, half hidden under a pillow. When I returned to my daughter with her toy, she squealed in delight as she hugged it tightly, her crying long forgotten. I let out a sigh and finished getting my outfit ready. My silver dress matched the colour of Jellal's tie and we were going to be part of the bridesmaids and best men.
"Come on, Erza!" yelled my husband – I've slightly gotten used to using that term but it still made me feel old. "We can't be late for their wedding!"
"Just calm down. You try having a baby to look after!" was my loud reply.
"I've had a child, thank you very much."
"Not out of your body," I retorted childishly as I finished changing Ruby. "It'll be fine if we're late anyway. Gray can't complain – he dropped the punch bowl at Gajeel's wedding and got in a brawl with Natsu. Then at Natsu and Lucy's wedding, they lost the ring and everyone looked for it for half an hour but it turns out that Natsu had it in his pocket."
"True. We're a bunch of crazy people but at least we never have boring weddings."
"Crazy people," Ruby repeated in her small and cute voice.
I quickly scolded her for saying that and we got back to focusing on getting ready. A few minutes later, we were out of the house and after a car ride filled with Ruby's loud singing that didn't make sense, we arrived at the wedding venue.
"Jellal! Erza! You guys are late," Natsu shouted as he pointed at us.
Lucy told him he was being too loud and he immediately apologised. I laughed – that's what it's been like ever since Lucy got pregnant and she was now a few months pregnant.
Once everything was set up and everyone arrived, the wedding started. The whole ceremony was beautiful and it was more special since it was the last wedding of our close friends. At night, during the banquet, we let loose and got drunk (except for Lucy since she was pregnant) while my mum looked after Ruby in the kids' corner. The music blasted loud, encouraging our wild dancing.
Standing by our table and on the edge of the dance floor, we picked up our glasses of wine.
"Cheers to Gray and Juvia!"
"Cheers to love!"
"Cheers to friendship!"
"Cheers to Fairy Tail!"
We all shouted out and clinked our glasses together, gulping down the wine at once. It was cliché but in a way, it was the start of our friendship. It was a cheesy thing – like when people are proud of the country or place they're from. We all went to Fairy Tail primary school together then Fairy Tail high school and then Fairy Tail University. We grew up in the area of Fairy Tail, spent our whole lives here together and knew the place very well.
"Let's go party!" Natsu whooped, his empty glass on the table now.
Once I finished my drink, I joined him and the others back on the dance floor, feeling more tipsy. As the music lifted our energy, it became more crazy. Natsu suddenly spiced up his dancing with break dancing and with everyone encouraging him, he did a front flip. We clapped and cheered. Then he did a back flip but as he was mid air, someone was dancing with his back to Natsu and bumped into him. In a horrible spiral of events, Natsu crashed into the DJ's table, the DJ flew back, the music stopped and everyone turned to stare at us.
"N-Natsu... are you okay?" Lucy asked, her eyes wide with shock.
I glanced to the other side of the room, among the tables and far from the dancing, where Ruby stayed with my mum and the other kids.
"Crazy people," Ruby shouted cheerfully.
Oh god. Being a mother was tough, especially when your friends decide to go wild at a wedding. But it was too late – Ruby was already part of this crazy family and she was already influenced by her uncle Natsu; they even went on a pranking frenzy the other week. It was sweet though – how Ruby fits in so well. Our family was growing bigger and stronger and I wouldn't have it any other way.
My mum quickly shoved a cherry in Ruby's mouth and turned her to face the other way. Luckily, Natsu also thought of a way to fill up the awkward silence.
"And now it's time for the acapella!" Natsu announced, starting a beat with his mouth as he did funny dance moves.
Everyone watched him weirdly. Then Gajeel started singing a popular song. People shrugged and just went along with it; singing loudly as their bodies resumed their movement to the new beat. Of course, Natsu checked on the DJ and he was fine but since the DJ's music stuff was ruined, he got a refund and left. I shook my head with a smile; Natsu will always be Natsu.
After dancing and having fun through the night, we left early since it was Ruby's bedtime. It was another night that we would always remember and we left a wedding present for Gray and Juvia like we did for the others. It was probably enough weddings for a few years but we always enjoyed the celebration of love and trust for a new beginning. It was how Jellal and I found our struggles and overcame them, strengthened our bond and shared our deep feelings out loud for one another – and I will always remember that day well.
Nearly a year later, our friendship group decided to go on a trip around the world. We wanted to do something special while we were still sort of young and energetic. It was also the perfect time since my mum was available to babysit Ruby and Lucy's newborn child who was a few months old. We wouldn't be gone too long and we were leaving tonight. So this morning, Jellal decided that he wanted to show off his great cooking skills and Ruby sat on her high chair to watch us make cookies.
"See? I'm much better at cooking now," Jellal bragged, slowly adding things to the cookie dough.
I hummed in agreement. "Indeed. You're putting in the right ingredients and the right amount of them too."
I immediately regretted those words as soon as I said them though when I saw what Jellal was doing. As he smiled at me, happy with the compliments, he reached for the salt jar and was about to pour a whole lot into the bowl. My eyes widened and I quickly grabbed his arm, stopping him from putting the salt in.
"What do you think you're doing?" I asked him.
"I'm putting in the sugar," he replied.
"Jellal, that's the salt."
He frowned, looking at the salt container. "But it has a big 'S' written on it. Doesn't that mean it's the sugar? I always thought it was the sugar."
No wonder his food always ended up tasting so salty. I sighed, putting the salt back. I went to the pantry and brought out the bag of sugar. Handing it to Jellal, I supervised as he put in the correct measurements.
Ruby pointed at the bag of sugar. "Sugar." Then she pointed at the salt jar and in a stern voice, she said, "And that's the salt."
I laughed at Jellal's pout. "See, Jellal? Even Ruby knows because once I had to tell her which one the salt was. And for being a good girl, she'll get lots of cookies."
Ruby clapped gleefully. Jellal continued making the dough while I made sure he did it correctly. Then we separated it into three parts and had one each on the table. We all rolled it nice and flat – with Jellal and I helping our daughter at times. These precious family moments were memories I cherished a lot; when I felt like a proud mum and when I automatically smile watching Jellal be an amazing father like I knew he always would be.
"I'm making a star!" Ruby exclaimed, shaping part of her dough into a star.
The next few minutes, we had fun molding the cookie dough into different shapes. Another great family bonding moment before Jellal and I left for a while with our friends on our holiday. We put the cookies in the oven and while we waited, we played games. When they came out of the oven, they looked delicious but as always, looks can be deceiving.
"If it tastes nice, then you should give me $5," Jellal bargained.
I inspected the cookies carefully. "Deal. But if they taste bad, then you owe me $5."
We shook on it. Ruby, not paying attention to us, was already holding her star-shaped cookie and blowing it since it was hot. She took a bite and immediately let out a moan of satisfaction.
"It's delicious, daddy!" she exclaimed.
"Yay, thank you, my little strawberry," Jellal ruffled Ruby's hair before he turned to me. "See? I got her approval so it must be good."
Not delaying the taste test any longer, I picked up my cookie and ate a piece. The texture felt like heaven in my mouth and the taste melted it's flavour into my very soul. It was a bit of an exaggeration but it tasted like a professional made it and not something my husband would have made a few years ago.
"It tastes amazing. But, I think that was because I helped," I teased him.
"Hey. I did most of it," Jellal said.
"I know. I'm just kidding. I'm really proud of you."
My sincerity made him smile. And I was really proud of him. For being a good husband and father and for helping our relationship stay strong all this time. His cooking skills have improved so much and I was there to watch it every step of the way like I was there to watch him grow from a young boy to a mature man. Today, though I gave him some tips, he did most of the cooking and it was a great character development. So sadly, I lost $5.
Later, we gathered our bags and spent a long time saying farewell to Ruby at my mum's place. Then Jellal and I were off to meet our friends at the airport – Natsu, Lucy, Gray, Juvia, Gajeel and Levy. Mavis wished us well for our trip yesterday and she wouldn't be bored since she's been hanging out with Zeref, who was released from prison recently and quite in love with Mavis.
Even though my friends and I were leaving on holiday together, we were beginning a new chapter, not just finishing one in Fairy Tail. We'll travel to many places, meet new people and who knows, maybe grow our family. Our lives will continue to be full of many adventures – crazy and calm – and the best part is that we'll always have each other. Jellal and Ruby make me a better person; they make me stronger and happier. And I know that our love is strong enough to last till the end.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Yay! That's the end! Before I thank y'all, I apologise for taking so long. I wanted to finish it in January but I went camping in 3 places for nearly two weeks. I hope you all had a great New Year! I can't believe it's 2021 already but let's hope it'll be better than last year! And, I'm also very sorry but I've kind of stopped with Fairy Tail so I searched up Jerza's children but it gave me different results and I didn't know what to do so I decided to just make up a new name. (I hope that's all good.)
Now this sequel and whole story is finished and it feels so nice to have it so complete! Especially with you guys who've read them both. It's been really long so I'm sorry for all the long waits between chapters. Thank you so much for reading, voting, commenting and supporting this story!!! I really appreciate all your support and it makes me so so happy to read your comments and see that you like it and what you like about it! I love you all! Thank you!!!
