14 - Sleep is for the week, and so is food

Well, brainstorming didn't go as well as planned. We didn't come up with any good ideas. Most of them were ridiculous, like killing Zeref and his gang, burning down their whole school, or moving to Australia for the rest of our lives. Yep, we were doomed.

When we gave up on coming up with ideas, we decided to go off and think about it separately while we went on with our normal lives. Because school was important too. Jellal and I both did really well on our mid-year exams, as did our other friends – some more than others. Classes were already giving out assignments and teachers were telling us about our end of year exam.

"Hi. I'd like to order a take away coffee and you," a male voice said to me.

I blinked, snapping back into reality to see Jellal grinning at me by the doorway. I was currently at work and I was organising the menus at the front, waiting for people to come in. Somewhere along the way, my mind must have slipped into thinking about Zeref but once again, I couldn't come up with a plan to stop him.

"What are you doing here, Jellal?" I asked my fiancé as I smiled back at him.

In one swift motion, he wrapped his arm around my waist and pulled me closer to him, giving me a soft kiss on the lips.

"I'm taking you somewhere," he replied.

"I can't. I still have work," I apologised, glancing around to make sure no one was watching, which no one was.

"Your shift finishes in seven minutes."

"Did you seriously memorise my work schedule?"

"Yep."

"Wow. Consider me impressed and wooed."

Jellal laughed. "Wooed? Who says 'wooed' anymore?"

"I do."

"It sounds dorky."

Really? Dorky? I crossed my arms, hiding the smile that was threatening to appear on my face. "If you keep insulting me like this, then I won't go with you to wherever it is you want to take me."

"No, I'm sorry," Jellal rushed to say. "It's not a bad thing. Dorky is... cute."

As I was going to reply, I noticed people approaching the door to the café. Being with Jellal almost made me forget that I was working.

"Sorry but I have to keep working. Do you mind waiting?" I asked my fiancé.

"Not at all. I'll make my way to a table and I'll have that coffee," he said as he took a menu and walked away.

The people from before came into the café and towards me. I did my usual routine with my new customers, served coffee to Jellal and finished my shift at work. We took the bus to the mystery place since Jellal said that it was close by. I questioned where we were going multiple times but he wouldn't tell me.

Since my work shift was in the morning, it was now a nice afternoon. The sun shone down on us as we exited the bus. In front of us was a house. Not just any house; a house that was currently under inspection. Several adults entered the building, observing the area. A flag at the front of the property said "For Sale" and had details of the one-storey house.

"Why are we at a house inspection?" I asked Jellal, very confused.

"Well, I know this is sudden but we've been together for a really long time and I think we should move in together," Jellal announced.

My eyes widened. It was definitely unexpected and to be honest... I had mixed feelings about it. People always say how living with a person will drive you crazy but then again, Jellal already drives me crazy, and in a good way. Plus, it would be expensive and I feel like it's still too early; we're only in our second year of university. And what if we don't like the house later on?

On the other hand, it would be nice to live in a house with just Jellal and I instead of a small dorm with other people. It probably sounds naïve, but I knew that Jellal was the person who I wanted to spend my whole life with.

"Okay," I finally said. "Let's go in then."

"Really? I thought you were going to yell at me or something," Jellal said.

I playfully glared at him. "If you don't shut up, I might yell at you and punch you."

He put his arms up in mock surrender after pretending to zip his lips. While he walked backwards to the house, he grinned charmingly. "Fine. I love you. You're the best."

As rushed as his words, he went into the house. I chuckled to myself. Boys. He was always so cute and adorable but hot and sexy at the same time; perfect on the outside just like on the inside.

When I walked through the stylish doorway of the house, I was in awe of my surroundings. My fiancé definitely did a good job house hunting. It was a big, spacious and gorgeous place yet it was small enough to be perfectly cosy. The living room was spacious and the kitchen next to it was practical and beautiful. I followed my fiancé into the dining room. Other adults walked around the place, inspecting every piece of the cream coloured walls.

"What do you think so far?" I asked Jellal.

"I think you're the most beautiful and amazing person in the whole wide world," he replied, sending me a cheeky smile and a wink.

I rolled my eyes. "I meant the house."

"My apologies, cherry. The house looks really good so far."

"Yeah. The kitchen was perfect and it would be great for making food."

"Or making love," my fiancé said seductively, sliding closer to me with his lips close to mine.

My eyes widened as my cheeks flushed a deep shade of red. I think my brain just shut down. Abort mission, I can't function or comprehend anything.

"Let's move on to the bathroom," Jellal guided down a hallway.

I just nodded my head and followed him speechlessly. He always seemed to have this effect on me and it makes me feel amazing on the inside but outside, I probably look like an embarrassed dork.

The bathroom was fairly well sized with a sink, a toilet, a bathtub and a shower that had a glass door. Then we moved on to the three bedrooms. The first two was small but the third one was an ideal size with a walk in wardrobe.

"Imagine all the fun we could have in here," Jellal said, his eyes looking around the place.

I hummed in agreement. "The pillow fights, the sleepovers with everyone else."

"I was thinking of something else but that works too."

I smiled, knowing what he was thinking about. But this time, I wasn't going to let him turn me into a flustered tomato.

Once we finished the inspection, we exited the house, hand in hand.

"So, what now?" I asked my fiancé. "Can we go home now and watch some movies?"

"Actually, we've got some more houses to look at," Jellal said.

"You're kidding me."

"Nope."

He was organised, to say the least. However, it might have been a bit much to do in one day. We went to four more houses after that but my favourite was still the first one. They were all pretty expensive though; I had no idea how we were going to afford one of them.

"Which one was your favourite?" Jellal asked as we ate ice-cream outside after visiting all the houses.

The ice-cream parlour was quiet but we enjoyed the cool breeze outside while we sat on the grass with our cups of ice-cream.

"Probably the first one," I replied.

"I knew you'd like that one the most. It's my favourite too," Jellal said after he finished his strawberry ice-cream.

I smiled as I cleaned off the last of my blueberry ice-cream with my spoon. Then I remembered the money issues. "How are we going to pay for it?"

"Don't worry, I'll handle all that."

"Jellal," I frowned at him. "I'm not letting you pay for it all by your-"

I was stopped mid-sentence as Jellal stuck his spoon into my mouth. He stood up and stretched, looking down on me.

"Trust me, don't worry about it."

A few weeks had passed since we went houses hunting and Jellal hasn't mentioned it since. I wasn't sure whether he forgot, he didn't want to buy a house anymore or he was planning something. But over time, I eventually forgot about it.

My law lecture class just finished and I hoisted my bag over my shoulders, following the stream of students out the room. One of my classmates ended up walking next to me so she sparked up conversation.

"Hey, Erza. How are you? Are you already studying for end of year exams?" she asked me.

"Yeah, I'm alright – just stressed about the exams. It's like, we just finished mid-year ones and then we already have to prepare for the end of year exams," I replied.

"The exams are going to be so hard but at least we only have one more year of university. Do you know what you want to do after uni?"

One more year of university. After that, we're thrown out into the world and left to fend for ourselves. Find a job, make money; but if not, we're doomed. It was scary.

"I don't really know. My fiancé wants to start a business and he wants me to work with him but I kind of want to do something in the law part of things," I confessed.

"Then go for it. You don't have to do the same thing as your partner and you don't have to do what he says," my classmate told me. "Well, I gotta go now. See you later."

I waved good-bye as she walked away, mulling over what she said. There was obvious truth in her words but I never thought about it because I wanted to be with Jellal. I guess I pushed my dreams to the back of my mind but not anymore, I want to live my life how I want to and I want to do what I want to do so I will.

As I walked to my dorms, I was so into my self-inspirational thoughts that I didn't notice Jellal pop up in front of me. He lightly grabbed my shoulders and turned me around.

"Um, Jellal, where are we going? I wanted to go back to my room and sleep," I said, confused as to what we were doing.

"Sleep is for the weak," my fiancé commented.

"Yeah, sleep is for the week – 7 days."

"No, food is for the week of 7 days."

At the mention of food, my eyes widened in excitement. Sleep was great, Jellal was great, but food – food was the best. And as my ever-knowing fiancé, Jellal knew what I liked and would take me on surprise trips to different food places.

"Are we going to eat food?" I asked him.

"Yep. I found a place that sells really good crepes," Jellal said.

"Awesome! Onwards we go!" I cried, pointing forwards.

Jellal chuckled, taking my hand and leading me to wherever the food was. We took a short bus ride to a small café at the corner of a quiet block. I first ordered a strawberries and cream crepe while Jellal ordered a chocolate and strawberry crepe. We didn't have to wait long until they arrived and they tasted delicious, like heaven on earth. All in all, it was a worthwhile trip.

"Okay, Jellal. Can we go sleep now?" I asked, resting my head on his shoulder.

"Yep, we're going to our home now," he replied.

I followed him out the shop and back on the bus. As we sat on the bus, my mind wandered to fantasies of giant strawberries and pink bunnies that loved to dance on rainbows, eat fairy floss, and played with alpaca plushies. Jellal nudged my shoulder to signal our stop. When we got off the bus, I looked around in confusion. We weren't near Fairy Tail University at all but this place seemed familiar.

"Jellal, where are we? Are we going to get more food? 'Cos I'm kind of full now – I did have a whole crepe and most of yours... and then I ordered another two," I said.

Jellal chuckled, shaking his head. "Don't worry. No more food for now. Just follow me – you trust me, right?"

"Jellal. I trust you with my life and I'd follow you anywhere, even into a volcano or a mine field or a tsunami or a desert..."

"Okay, I get it," Jellal said. "And we're here by the way."

While I was talking, I had followed him a few houses down the street. We stopped in front of a very familiar house. In fact, as I managed to retrieve the memory from my long-term memory storage, I remembered that it was the first house we visited a few weeks back when we were looking at houses on sale. It looked pretty much the same except for one difference: there was no sale sign at the front so it looked like a normal house. I guess someone bought it.

"What are we doing back here?" I asked my fiancé.

"I bought the house for us," Jellal announced nonchalantly.

My jaw dropped. He bought this house? But it cost so much! A feeling of guilt overwhelmed me.

"How did you have enough money for it?" I asked flabbergasted.

"I saved up from work and took extra shifts as much as I could. All our friends also chipped in as their wedding gift to us, even though our wedding is a long time away," my fiancé explained.

"I – I can't believe you actually bought it."

"Well, I did, so let's go inside now and check it out. I was also thinking we could go furniture shopping today."

"Okay, but only if I pay you back-" I started, but never finished as Jellal put his hand over my mouth.

"Nope. You are not paying me back. At least not with money; you can pay me back with love," he wiggled his eyebrows suggestively.

I rolled my eyes. This might be the end of the conversation for now but I was definitely paying him back with money later. Just because I'm a girl doesn't mean I have to let the guy pay for everything. I make money too and I'm independent. It's nice of Jellal to spoil me but I want to have the joy of spoiling him as well and seeing a smile on his face when I give him things.

Since there was nothing else to do but obey, I walked with Jellal into the house. It was like the last time we saw it: cosy and clean but bare. As we ventured through the place, we talked about where we wanted to put furniture and started measuring the sizes of spots so they could fit.

Later, we spent the whole evening shopping. In the end, we bought the essentials: a small dining table, some chairs, a couch and a TV. We decided to buy the other furniture later, such as beds. Instead, we were taking turns sleeping on the couch and on the floor in a sleeping bag. The whole week, we took time to move our belongings from our dormitories into the new house and we made our house look more comfortable. Lucy, Juvia and Levy were sad that I was moving out but they were happy to have more space in their room.

On Friday night, we decided to have a sleepover with all our friends to show them our new place. They came over together carrying sleeping bags, pillows and the like.

"Woah! Your place is so cool!" Natsu yelled, running from room to room.

"It's bigger than I expected," Lucy chimed in. "But not too big – the perfect size for me when I buy a house."

"Yeah. I don't know how Jellal found it," I said.

"You're so lucky to have him as your fiancé – he's like the perfect husband and it's so hard to find nice guys nowadays," Levy commented.

Gajeel, not very happy about that, wrapped his arms around Levy's waist, pulling her into him. "Excuse me? What about me?"

"I was only joking," Levy burst into a fit of giggles as Gajeel peppered her neck with kisses.

"Okay. Enough kissing," Gray pretended to puke.

"Yeah, Jellal and Erza have probably infected every inch of the house with their kissing," Juvia said, causing my cheeks to turn bright red. "And Gray-sama is the best husband in the whole wide world," Juvia quickly added under her breath so fast that I almost couldn't understand it.

"Let's get on with the tour," Jellal announced, taking initiative as always.

We took everyone through each room while they appreciated our new home. Then we ate dinner, which consisted of unhealthy pizza. All of us were sprawled out on the ground in the living room in front of the TV since we didn't buy enough chairs. While we ate, we watched movies and funny cat videos. It was nearing midnight so we decided to go to sleep. But of course, we didn't actually end up going to sleep.

"Pillow fight!" Natsu cried, throwing his pillow into Gray's face.

"Eh? You wanna die, flame brain?" Gray shouted as he stripped off his top and threw the pillow back at Natsu.

Next thing I know, pillows are flying everywhere and one smacks me right in the face.

"That's it. Everyone's gonna die!" I shouted, hurling whatever pillows I could find at people.

Did they really think they could win a pillow fight in my house? I think not.

I thrust a pillow at Gray but it was blocked by Juvia, who started whacking me with her pillow. Out the corner of my eyes, I saw Lucy and Levy fending for themselves against Natsu and Gajeel.

I stopped hitting Juvia as I got an idea. "Let's do boys against girls!" I said.

No one hesitated to follow my suggestion. Juvia and I joined in on the fray to terrorise Natsu and Gajeel. The other boys came to their rescue but we held our ground. A few minutes later, we collapsed on the ground, all puffed out and tired.

"Let's call it a draw," Gray said.

"Good idea," Lucy yawned, and all of us agreed.

After we finished getting ready for bed, we crawled into our sleeping bags. We were lying on the carpet of the living room, just a mass of bodies on the ground. I snuggled next to Jellal and the others were around us; I wasn't exactly sure where everyone was. All lights were off and the moon glowing through the window was the only bright source in the otherwise dark room. Was my feet touching someone's head? I wasn't sure. Oh well.

"Good night everyone!" Natsu exclaimed.

"Good night," we all chorused back.

Peace and quiet.

"Good night, Lucy," Natsu chirped happily to his fiancée.

"Good night, Natsu," Lucy replied.

"Good night, Gray," Natsu said, much to everyone's annoyance.

A sigh was heard from Gray as he grumbled back a "good night".

Once again, Natsu said, "Good night, Erza,"

"Good night, Natsu," I groaned.

When was this going to stop? I turned over in my sleeping bag, covering my ear with my pillow. Maybe I should just kick him out of my house.

"Good night, Jellal," Natsu continued.

"Shut up and go to sleep!" Gajeel barked, causing Natsu to stop talking.

Silence filled the air. Finally, sleep came.
