Chapter Twenty Three

I breathed fast and jumped to dodge another attack. The fight has been going on for only two minutes and I already felt hopeless. No matter what I said, Vickie just shut me off. Luffy growled and threw insults her way, but she just ignored him and continued swinging her chain. My captain avoided it in a rush, because we knew that just one scratch of that and he would be paralysed.

"Why the hell would you betray your friend like that, you ugly witch?!" Luffy stretched an arm behind him and then launched his fist at Vickie.

"She was the one who betrayed me! If she just stayed at home and kept making stupid candy like a normal friend instead of running off with some random pirate she wouldn't be in this mess!" I felt a slight pang in my heart and took a step back. The two were ignoring me completely and as glad as I was that I didn't have to fight, I didn't want either of them to get hurt either.

"If you hadn't lied to me about where you were disappearing all these weeks, maybe I wouldn't have gone." Vickie stopped at my words and looked at her hands. Her lips twitched.

"And what was I supposed to say? Oh, hey, girl! I'm not actually going on a vacation. In fact, I'll be working my ass off fighting as a pirate, because this sicko told me he'll let me keep this island instead of demolishing it for his experiments as long as I kidnap one poor princess. And of course I said yes, I mean, what's the life of one stupid princess compared to an island with my father's grave on it, right?" She gritted her teeth and cracked her fingers. "You'd totally support me, wouldn't you?"

I knew I wouldn't. As much as I loved my best friend, killing someone to hold on to a memory... It was wrong. But I couldn't bring myself to say so. "You're my best friend..."

"And yet, you would leave everything you have, everyone you love, to chase a dream with someone who won't even call you by your name. That shop you've worked on for two years wasn't enough for you. Our friendship wasn't enough for you. You always wanted more, I should've seen it." She turned around and took a thin dagger into her hands, the chain fell on the floor. "I'll kill your captain. I'll kill all your so called friends. Don't look so heartbroken. You're pathetic, Candy."

She disappeared from my line of sight and I suddenly felt cold sharp metal at my throat and her body behind me. "Regretting leaving home yet?" I saw panic in Luffy's eyes. He clenched his fist and glared at Vickie. "Move and inch and she's dead, I mean it."

"Let her go, the fight is between you and me!" Luffy yelled, but stayed put.

"Oh, you're wrong about that, dear Captain. This is personal." She pulled me back by my hair and dug the dagger deeper into my skin. A droplet of blood trailed down my neck and I closed my eyes, trying to focus on how to escape. Vickie walked backwards, with me still in her grip while Luffy could only watch. She smirked and walked though the door. After saying a complicated numeral code, the door closed and Luffy disappeared. "It's just you and me now, sweetie."

"Vickie, please. I'm sorry." She was pushing me through dark and strange corridors, deeper and deeper into the cave centre.

"Remember when we promised each other we wouldn't let a guy drag us apart. Well that's just what you did. Left your best friend and ran away with a boy you didn't know."

"I was going to come back!"

"Were you?" We arrived into what looked like a prison. There were cells left and right. They had iron bars, mouldy ceilings and cement floors, but I was surprised at the lack of prisoners. Was Vivi here?

I noticed Vickie tensed and narrowed her eyes then she pushed me in a cell and whispered something into a tiny chip. She rolled her eyes when she heard the response and mumbled: "Useless idiots." Then she locked the door of my cell. "I'll deal with you later."

____________________________________________________________________________

Okay I know this is kinda short but I really wanted to update instead of keeping you waiting. What do you guys think of Vickie? Do you want me to explain her backstory more or are you happy with the way it is?

Remember that this story is told from Candy's point of view so I can't really explain everything directly, because she isn't a witness to all the events that are happening.

Hope you loved this chapter and as always, vote & comment!

XOXO
