Chapter Twenty

"Wake up!" A yell startled me from my peaceful slumber. I groaned and pulled a pillow over my head to shut out the annoying noise. "C'mon, Candy. Get! Up!" Luffy pulled at my pillow and smacked my face with it. I whimpered and turned away from him, still sore from yesterday. "You're not quitting!" Suddenly I felt something wrap around my torso and legs and lift me up in the air. Mischievous laughter sounded from Luffy as he ran out with me, literally wrapped in his arms, and half asleep. I wasn't sure, but maybe Sugar was following too.

I glared daggers at my captain after he let me go and hit the floor. He grinned at me that wide smile of his and I was about to let it go, until I saw what was behind me. "What the hell are you going to do with that?" I gulped down my saliva and stood up. I was still in my sleepwear with messy hair and sleepy eyes. I hoped I was dreaming. It apparently hadn't been enough that he used electric eels to fight me, made me swim with sharks and threw fire balls at me while I had to dance on one leg. Now he brought me a huge angry octopus. I shouldn't have been surprised.

"Isn't it awesome?" He giggled and pulled himself a few meters away. "Careful, Candy! I heard they're carnivores. Shi shi shi..." I stared in horror as the slimy thing crawled towards me. I haven't even changed or brushed my teeth yet. I didn't have my weapon. I wasn't ready!

I jumped up, just as it stretched it's tentacles to catch me, and shivered. It was at times like these that I wish I could go back home and bake some muffins. I could only dodge it's attacks as Luffy watched me in amusement, and he seemed to be the only one. Everyone else was either terrified, including me, or disgusted, also including me. "Zoro?" I called to my trainer who was napping in the shadows of a sake barrel. He opened one eye and gave me an annoyed grunt.

"What do you want, punk?" He murmured and a few months ago, I wouldn't be able to hear him.

"Next time he gets an idea like this," I kicked a tentacle away and wiped the sweat from my forehead. "Drown him." The only thing I got in response was a dismissive "Hmph." and a slap in the face by an octopus. I gritted my teeth and blinked away the tears that fell from the pain. I punched the wriggly creature and gave it another kick with my knee, just when a smelly black goo shot out of nowhere and cowered me whole.

A loud screech echoed around the ship as I wiped my eyes just to see Sanji kicked the sea monster back to where it belongs. I watched his angry expression turn into a worried one. "Are you alright Candy-chan?" He handed me a handkerchief to wipe my face and I thanked him with a shaky voice.

"Hey, Sanji! Why'd you kick him out? I worked hard to catch that thing!"  Luffy ran closer and glared at the cook.

"That thing almost killed her, you mindless idiot." The blonde then turned to Zoro and kicked him in the stomach. "And I thought you were supposed to watch over them, not slee-"

"Candy?" Nami shouted next to Usopp who was behind the wheel. I sighed not really wanting to deal with anything but a shower. Still, I went over to her, letting the trio argue among themselves, and looked at Nami in question. I half expected her to laugh at my state, but she only gave me a grim look and pointed north. "Is that what I think it is?"

A gasp left my mouth, making me taste the slimy black goo and choking on it. I coughed and looked at the blurry sight of an island. It was engulfed in thick white fog and surrounded by the dark raging sea. I noticed the weather changing as Merry sailed closer and closer. Nami yelled at the crew to pull up the sails so we wouldn't get caught in a storm. There were no birds around and I couldn't see any fish beneath us either. The air was dry and cold, clouds kept gathering above and the wind was soon louder than our navigator's voice.

I was about to bite my lip, but reminded myself not to do so when there was some octopus ink still on my face. So this was it? The island Vickie cared so much for? Dead trees, dry grass, crumbled rocks... It didn't look like something a person would live at. It raised into two mountains on each side, left bigger than the right, and I could see a huge cave where they connected. The wolf island looked lonely.

I felt a tap on my left thigh and looked down to see Chopper's adorable eyes glancing up at me. He had a towel in his hooves and I smiled at him. After taking it I patted his head and thanked him. He had been taking care of me a lot for the past few days when training was tough. He healed my wounds, gave me medicine so I could rest and even brought me tea sometimes. The adorable doctor has had a huge part in supporting me and I've grown very fond of him. My favourite part of the day was when I got to watch him play with Sugar in the evenings.

"Go shower and eat something." It was funny how he spoke like a child but a mother at the same time. I couldn't get used to it.

"But, we're here." I nodded towards the island. Nami pushed me towards my room and chuckled.

"Luffy doesn't know that yet. Besides, how could you help Vivi without a weapon and unprepared. Now listen to Chopper, we need time to dock anyways." I sighed and ran to my room to pull out fresh clothes and a knife.
