Chapter 9-The list

I couldn't achieve two of the things Alec wanted me to do but I could do one. Even if it broke my heart, Thursday morning I had an early appointment at the hairdresser. I was so mad. I liked my black and pink hair. Also my bangs.

As soon as I put a foot in the shop, the hairdressers and the clients looked at me with astonishment. My cheeks immediately turned red at all this attention. Orlando, the one I took my appointment with ran towards me. He studied me intensively before finally speaking.

"Oh darling we have work to do." He said with his strong British accent.

I rolled my eyes and sat on the chair directly in front of the mirror. My eyes were practically invisible with the huge bangs covering them. I had a small nose and full pink lips.

"What do you want me to do dear Elena?" Asked Orlando a focused look on his face. He had a large mustache and I almost laughed at his too serious look.

I sighed.

"Take off the bangs and I want to switch to blonde please." I answered.

Orlando's eyes widened. He clapped his hands.

"Yes! I like it! Definitely something I can do."

He began playing with my hair as I received a call from my mom, probably to ask where I was. I didn't answer. I didn't tell my parents I was going to dramatically change my look. They'd be please. They hated my hair.

After two hours sitting, I finally stood up as Orlando told me he was done.

I gulped, surprised. Oh my god. Was this really me? I looked so different. Kind of pretty. Alec was right.

My hairdresser had done magic. He crossed his arms on his chest, proud of what he had done.

"Thank you Orlando, it kind of looks good. Really." I said touching my soft blonde hair.

He frowned.

"Kind of looks good? You mean it looks wonderful!" He yelled making me laugh.

"Yes if you say so."

I paid him and went outside. If I'd take the bus right now I'd arrive on lunch break. On the ride, I called my mom. Saying she was mad was an euphemism.

"Elena White oh my god, where the hell are you?" She screamed at the phone.

"I had an appointment somewhere, please don't ask you'll see." I declared.

I could hear an heavy sigh.

"Don't ever do this again without saying anything. Your dad wanted to call the police!" She said.

I laughed.

"I'm ok, it's not a big of a deal really. I promise I won't do it again." The bus stopped so I stepped off.

"Are you in school?" She asked.

"Sure." It wasn't quite a lie because I could see the high building standing right in front of me.

"Ok then see you tonight honey."

"Yes mom."

I hung up.

I guess the bell had already ran for dinner break because most of people were eating outside or having fun. A lot of them stopped what they were doing to look at me. They were probably shocked at my whole new look. Jesus, I hated attention. I began to walk faster to get in and get rid of all the glances. I opened my locker to put my bag but discovered a small piece of paper. I looked around me to see if anyone was watching but no one was. I didn't recognize the handwrite.

"Welcome back Elena. Let me help you. Ethan Walker
Addison Sparks
Camila Gregor
Sam Baker
Isabella Johnson
Chase Stanley
Billy Dunkin
They are not as innocent as you might think."

Heavy breaths took control of my lungs. I finally knew. They were the ones who did this to him. I wanted to hurt them in a way they could never stand up from. Just like they did to Alec. I had to hit hard. But those people were the high class. The crème-de-la-crème, I couldn't reach them. Not me, Elena White. But what if I could change? What if I could become just like them to hit from the inside? What if?

I sit at the cafeteria and observed everyone. It's crazy how people from the same place, who lived pretty much the same lives could be so different. I studied their gestures, the way they laughed, how they replied. I was so focused that when a hand touched my shoulder, I jumped.

"I'm sorry, I didn't want to scare you." Said Addison with a soft voice.

Oh my god what was it with this girl suddenly sticking on me like glue? Then I remembered she was on the anonymous list that was given to me. I looked at her with such hatred that I felt my entire body warming up. I wanted to hurt her so badly. No. I wanted to destroy her. If she dared apologizing about him God knows what I'd do to her. She wasn't allowed to even say his name, ever. Neither all her large friend group. She completely ignored the look I gave her and sit next to me. Her hair were raised up in a beautiful bun. Though it looked effortless, as a girl I knew she took all the time in the world to achieve it.

"Look I know exactly what you're going through." She began with a sad smile.

"My-my grandma passed away last year. She was the most important person to me. Anyway just know you can talk to me if you want to."

She sounded so honest that I wanted to cry in her arms and tell her everything Alec was about. But she wasn't my friend. He was. And she killed him. I was about to answer something truly hurtful about her dead grandma whom I didn't give a shit about when a light hit my head. Metaphorically.

She was part of my plan. She was my access to the popular group. To my revenge. I took a deep breath and kindly replied.

"Thank you, I appreciate it."

I vomit every letter of that sentence but she looked please with my answer as she proposed:

"D'you want to come sit with us?"

She pointed at the popular group table. There was a lot of them missing. Only girls were there, laughing so graciously that I frowned. I didn't notice Billy Dunkin who was sitting with them too. The rest the boys were missing.

As much as I wanted to rip all of their head off, I needed to behave properly. I needed them to accept me so I could destroy them from the inside.

"I'm not sure that's a good idea." I replied, acting as if I was shy.

She smiled again, showing off a line of perfectly alined white teeth.

"Oh please. You are very welcomed!" She assured.

So I put on my best fake smile and answered.

"Sure."
