Chapter 22-Moving

"What?" I asked to my little brother who was looking at me with huge eyes.

"You're dressing like a girl. It's weird."

I rolled my eyes.

"Shut up you moron. Does this look good or you liked the other one better?" I questioned, looking at the black dress I was trying on.

On a Thursday night on such short notice, I couldn't find a better fashion helper than my 10-year-old brother.

"I don't know. They all kind of look the same to me." He shrug.

"Gabe are you serious? I've showed you a red one, two black ones and a yellow one and they all look the same to you? Come on try harder." I rolled my eyes.

"I just want to get paid."

"Get out, you're no use. I'm not paying you since you're not doing anything to help me at all."

"Ok ok fine. The first black one. Happy?"

I handed him a ten dollar banknote without saying a word.

"Thanks big sis." He smiled, leaving my room.

I sighed, looking at the mess I had created in my bedroom. There was a ton t-shirts and jeans as well as a couple of dresses which I had bought the same day laying on the floor. I had to find something good to wear to that party this weekend.

Someone politely knocked at my door. I turned around to look at my mom. I was certain she was going to yell at me to clean my room, but she didn't.

"It's pretty." She said, pointing at my dress. "What is it for?" She asked entering my room and sitting on my bed.

"Just a party."

I was purposely vague because I didn't want her to ask questions.

"How are you?"

I frowned, surprised by her sudden question. People ask how others are all the time as a sign of politeness but no one truly cares except the ones who are close to you. That sentence was so sincere that I didn't know what to answer. I was used of saying yes but I couldn't lie to my mom.

"I don't really know. I mean I'm definitely doing better but I'm not fine. I miss him."

My mom seemed pretty tired. She had dark circles under her eyes, her hair were not perfectly placed as they used to be and a sad smile took place on her face.

"You're dealing with this so well. I'm proud of you." She smiled.

Oh you have no idea. I'm slowly getting my revenge.

"Yeah I mean. That's how Alec would have wanted it." I shrugged.

"Hum. There's something I want to talk to you about."

She looked suddenly so serious and apprehensive of what she was going to tell me.

"Yeah what is it mom?"

I was starting to be stressed because of the look on her face. She had the same expression when we had our first sex conversation as I started high school. Please, please not another one.

"We're selling the house."

I gulped and my hands were suddenly shaking.

"W-What?" I tried to ask.

"Listen Elena, we have so many bad memories here. This town is too heavy in our hearts, we have to go. Start somewhere new."

I didn't know what to say or what to do. As far as I could remember, I've always lived here. Moving would be so awkward. And also, my plan would be fucked if I had to leave.

"We're placing the announcement on Monday." She stood up and gave me a kiss on the forehead.

She left.

Now I had to speed up my plan.
