Chapter 4
Finola's POV
I looked down at the beautiful wedding dress that my sisters had picked out for me. It was an off-the-shoulder mermaid wedding dress with long lace sleeves. It had a lot of glittery objects on it that made it shiny. I looked up at the mirror in front of me. My hair wasn't in its usual high bun; instead, it flowed down to my right side in curls with silver accessories and a tiara. My face was dolled up courtesy of Finola, who was surprisingly good at makeup.
I wasn't a big fan of makeup, but my sister's persuaded me, after all, it's my wedding day, and they wanted me to look like a princess, and I did.
"This is all you need now," Fabiola stated as she placed the bouquet of red roses in my hands. She smiled at me, "You look amazing."
Finola giggled behind her, "I've got to say, you clean up nicely big sister."
I rolled my eyes at my younger sister but thanked her, "Thank you." Fiona and Fabiola were wearing long off the shoulder red dress. Their hair was up in a classy wrap. They had white bouquets in their hands. They looked beautiful, and it wasn't anything new. With her auburn hair and grey eyes, Fabiola had men falling all over her. Not to mention Fiona with her copper blond hair and grey eyes, she was gracious.
Then there was me. Brown hair and hazel eyes just like my daddy. He didn't even bother to come.
"I can't believe you're getting married. I guess pigs are flying somewhere."I laughed at Fabiola's words. She was most the lively and jovial one of the three Mona girls.
"And cats too,"
"Cows," Fiona added. "Maybe a few elephants too."
We stood there, naming animals and laughing until we heard a knock on the door. "Come in," Fabiola answered. Chelsea, Harlyn's mother, pushed her head in. "They're ready to begin."
Fiona clapped her hands and giggled. My sisters were more excited about my wedding than I was. What I am was nervous. Nervous that things wouldn't go as plan, nervous that Joesph would try and ruin things and the plan wouldn't work. I was nervous about the vows that I practised. And most of all, I was nervous about kissing Harlyn again. Nervous, nervous, nervous.
Fiona placed her hands in mine, "C'mon big sister, let's get you married to Mr Ruthless." That was Fiona's name for Haryln every since the first time they met two years ago, and it's never changed since.
I walked out of the room with my sisters and Chelsea behind me. Soon enough, we were at the entrance of Chelsea's Garden. It was breathtaking. The Japanese Maple Tree was as red as the gowns my sisters were wearing. The red leaves were falling from the tree, making the surrounding area beautifully red. I smiled, red is my favourite colour, and now it was all around me.
"I'll take it from here." Christoper, Harlyn's father, said. He looked at me and smile, "You look beautiful."
I blushed at his comment as I took his hands in mine. My parents couldn't come to my wedding because they were out of the country. It wasn't a surprise to me though; they always choose business before family and my mother wasn't exactly pleased to hear about my breakup with Joesph by a magazine, especially since she was so fond of him.
As I walked hand-in-hand with the man who is about to become my father in law, I looked ahead at my groom. He wore a tuxedo with a red bow tie and matching pocket square. His steel-blue eyes were staring at me as I made my way up to the altar.
When we were about four feet away when Christoper stopped and turned me to him. "He is a good man. Take care of him."
I offered him a small smile, "I will."Christoper looked like an older version of Harlyn except with green eyes. He was still handsome even in his old age.
He kissed me on the cheek before releasing me.
Harlyn moved from his spot and took my hands in his, and we walked backed together hand-in-hand.
The official looked at us and smiled, then lift his head to the same crowd. "Dearly beloved, we're assembled in the presence of God and these witnesses in this incredible place and this incredible date that God set just for you. We're here to join together this man and this woman, which is blessed by our God and his commandments. Therefore it should be honoured among people. Harlyn Hope and Finola Mona, we're very grateful that you have allowed us to share your special day with you."
Soon enough, it was time to say our vows. Harlyn went first, "I'm not going to lie and say it was love at first sight because we both know it was the opposite." A few persons in the crowd laughed, and I couldn't hold back my smile, so I let it out. "There's an old proverb, there's a thin line between love and hate, and I guess after two years of hating you, I gradually started to love you. I'm not going to promise a perfect marriage because perfect marriages don't exist, but I promise you it's going to be as perfect as it can be." Harlyn eyes never left mine while he was talking and now all I could do was stare into them.
"Finola, it's your turn." Fabiola leaned in to tell me.
Without breaking eye contact, I smiled, "You're such an asshole, like one of the biggest I've ever met." I could hear the murmurs in the background, but I paid no attention to them. "But when you're not being a complete jerk, you're the sweetest person ever. Now, looking back, you're still an asshole, but now you're my asshole, and I will love you as long as you continue to breathe." I smiled as I finished saying all the words I memorised.
His blue eyes shined as he smiled at my words. I listened as the crowd behind us clap. I placed the ring my sister gave me on his finger, and he put the ring his friend gave him on mine.
"Do you Harlyn Jenell Hope take Finola Natasha Mona to be your lawfully wedded wife, for better or worse, for richer or for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and cherish; from this day onward until death do you part?"
"I do."
The official looked over at me and repeated, "Do you Finola Natasha Mona take Harlyn Jenell Hope to be your lawfully wedded wife, for better or worse, for richer or for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and cherish; from this day onward until death do you part?"
"I do."
"By the power vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife. Harlyn, you may kiss your bride."
In seconds I was in Harlyn's arms me, and his lips were on mine stealing our marriage, our proposal, our revenge.
..................
"May I have a dance with the bride?" my eyes widen at the voice I heard.
I turn to look my left at Joseph surprise, after all. He wasn't at the wedding; I didn't expect him to be here.
"Sure." I couldn't ignore his outstretched arm because they were just too many people around. I placed my hands in his, and we walked to the centre of the room. He put one of his hands on my shoulder and the other around my waist then we slow dance to 'Like I'm going to love you.'
"So you didn't come to the wedding, but you can come to the reception?" I asked harshly.
"I wasn't allowed to enter the wedding. Harlyn wasn't allowing it. He was afraid I would have done something to ruin the wedding and was right." he down into my eye, "Why did you marry him Finola? You hate him. We use to hate him together."
I shook my head, "I don't hate him anymore. I hate you."
He sighed, "Come on, Finola. You knew I was sleeping with other people, so what's the deal if I slept with your cousin."
I laughed and rolled my eyes, "Do you really think that this is about you and Claire sleeping together?" I looked across the room at Haryln how was staring at us. "I break up with you because you stole my deal, and it was time for us to move on. We weren't going anywhere. We both knew that." We had no romantic feelings towards each, no sparks, nothing.
"That's not true. We were great together."
I shook my head, "We were great friends and business partners but nothing else. We weren't attracted to each other."
"That's not true. I find you very attractive."
I rolled my eyes. I was far from Joesph's type. "We don't evenhave any chemistry."
"And you and my brother do? Come on, Finola, we both know what type of person he is. He's ruthless. He cares for no one but himself."
"Then you're both alike then, cause you don't care about anyone but yourself either." If he had cared about me and our freindship then he wouldn't have stolen my deal.
"That's not tr..." before he could finish I removed my hands from his shoulder and lift it to stop him.
"Don't deny it." I placed my hands back on his shoulder. "If you cared, you wouldn't have stolen my plan."
"Is that why you slept with my brother?"
I let out a cackle, "No, your brother and I go way back and just, so you know, I didn't sleep with your brother to get back at you."
"Did you sleep with him at all?" Joesph questioned.
"That's none of your business." A voice to my right said. "Can I have my wife now?" Harlyn placed a strong emphasis on the word wife, which for some strange reason caused shivers to run through me.
I took my hands from Joesph's shoulder and went into Haryln waiting arms. Harlyn smirked at his brother before turning around, walking away with me in his hands.
Harlyn stopped me and turn me around in his arms, "It's our wedding. People expect us to dance more than once. Place your head on my shoulder." the song that was playing now was 'I choose you' by Ryann Darling.
'For the rest of my life, with all that I have, I do." Harlyn surprised me by singing along with the song which caused my hand to shot up.
"You know this song?" I asked rhetorically.
"Who do you think asked for it?" he answered.
I smiled and rested back my head on his shoulder. It was a beautiful song, not one you'd expect a ruthless billionaire to listen to or even know word for word.
Who knew Harlyn's body could feel so warm and nice against mine? I wanted to stay like that forever, but my thought was short-lived because the knocking of a spoon on a glass disrupted it.
I lifted my head off his shoulder and followed the direction of the knocking. Joseph stood on the stage with a glass and spoon in his hands.
"From a very young age, my big brother and I have been in competition. Who gets the bicycle first? Who gets the car first? Who gets more As? Who is the more achieved? It's been a competition all our lives. I stole his girlfriend in college, and he stoled my best friend and fiance and married her." I turn to look at Harlyn with wide eyes then back at the stage "But the competition isn't over. Because I plan on stealing her back."
Persons around us start to whisper as Joesph walked down the stage and through the exit door beside it. I spot my Fabiola smiling mischievously at Fiona. I knew exactly what those two were thinking.
I turned back to the man beside me and looked in his eyes. "I guess you're plan is working."
Harlyn smiled at me, "Indeed."
