Chapter 3
"One Brother to the Next, The Secret Affair, The Fiancé Stealer" Fabiola called out. "These articles have been out in less than five hours and yet have sold thousands of copy. What's going on? When were you going to tell me that you're madly in love with your ex-fiancé's brother, who by the way is your current fiancé and oh yeah, how long ago did you break up with your ex? Four days ago." she paused to take a breath. "Now, you need to tell me what the hell is going on. I know you're my big sister, but you're also the hottest topic on the Eastern side of America, and I'm a journalist, so I need the details."
I lifted my hands, "Hold up, do want to know about my relationship with Harlyn because you're my sister or because of your job?"
She scratches her dark hair and smile, "Both." she pouted, "Pretty, please. Everyone loves gossip, especially one that concerned the ruthless billionaire Harlyn Hope." Harlyn was used to the spotlight not only because he was rich but because of his deadly handsome looks. He had a unique jawline, piercing steel-blue eyes that will give your shivers if you stared at it too long and his jet black hair. Everything about Harlyn Hope screamed mysterious and dangerous, and every woman wanted a piece of him.
"I was engaged to the wrong brother, and now I'm marrying the right one on Saturday. That's all you need to know."
"Saturday!" her brown eyes lit up. "That's quick, have you told mom and dad yet?"
"I sent them an email, and I texted Fiona" My parents were always too busy to answer my calls, so why waste a few minutes to call them when I can Opal email them instead?
"So why am I the last one to know about this?" she asked irritated.
"Because I know how you'd react" she wanted her eyebrows, but I continued, "and I wanted to ask you to be one of my bridesmaid in person.
Her eyes lit up, "Really, awe. Thank you." she pulled me in a tight hug then release me slowly. "I always thought I'd be the first to get married and that you wouldn't even make it to the aisle, but let's not jinx it."
I laughed at her words. I never expected actually to get married either, yes I was engaged to Joesph, but it never seemed real, and now I was getting married in two days.
"Can I see the ring?" she asked as she lifted my left hands to her face. "Wow, this beautiful. It's better than the last one. He has taste; he's a keeper." Fabiola wasn't only my sister, but she was also my best friend and wanted to tell her that Harlyn and I relationship wasn't real and we were only getting married of revenge, but she was too much of a romantic and too much of a gossip. There was no way we could let Joesph think that our relationship was anything less than perfect. That was the only way we could get the sweet revenge we both deserve.
"Have you bought your wedding dress yet?"
"No. I was waiting for you." When it came to relationships, dates, parties and weddings, Fabiola was the girl. Me, on the other hand, was all about business and food. I didn't go out much, and I didn't have a lot of friends. I was a lot like my father, or so I've been told.
"And now I'm here, so let's go. We have a wedding dress to buy and shoes and cake. We have a wedding to plan." She was way more excited about this wedding than me, and I am the bride.
"I have work to do." I gesture to the files that were opened on my office desk.
"They won't run away. They'll be here when we get back." she walked around to my side of the desk and try to pull me out of my desk. I laughed as she fails even to make a muscle of my body move off the chair. "This used to be so much easier when we were younger,"
I laughed, "that's because we used to believe we had powers, remember you had the strength, and I had invisibility."
She smiled, "I still have powers." she moved to the back of my chair and pushed it so hard I ended up falling on the ground. "Told ya!"
I groan and stand up slowly off the ground. Fabiola was way too determine for me to go against her. If she wants to go wedding shopping, I'll go because it's better than hearing her say 'You never spent any time with me.'
"Call Fiona; she would torture me if she found out that you came and she didn't." We knew what it was like to live with our parents and so we brought our little sister almost everywhere we could.
"Isn't she in school now?"
I nod, "One class isn't going to kill her."
"But dad will."
"Then I guess we'll have to stick together."
.............................
Harlyn's POV
I lifted my head slowly to look at the intruder who had the nerve to come in my office without permission, but I smiled when I saw who it was. Finally, I was excepting him to come earlier, but at least he came, which meant the plan was in action.
"What the hell is this?" Joesph asked, lifting the magazine that was in his hand. His jaws were clenched, and I could see the angry as it ripped through. I smiled to myself at the thought.
"A magazine," I answered.
"You know freaking well that's not what I'm talking about," He shouted. He walked over to my desk and dropped the magazine on my desk. "What is this? Is this some sort of joke?"
I looked down at the magazine and smiled. The cover had a picture of Finola and I kissing while holding hands with the Title, From One Brother to the Next. This morning when I woke up the first thing I did was to check all the gossip pages and columns, there were already three articles about Finola and I, and we were expecting more to pop-up soon.
"Why are you kissing my fiancé?"
I laughed at his word and lifted my head to look in his green eyes, "Ex-fiancé. She broke up with you four days ago. She's my fiancé now." I said in a matter-of-fact tone.
"Why are you two getting married?" I could see the thoughts running through his head. "Is it for a business deal?" Joesph knew me well. He knew that I'd only get married for two reasons, a business deal or love. To him, I was incapable of love. Thus the only reason for me to be marrying Finola was a business deal after their engagement was also based on a numerous amount of business deals, but it was also had love and friendship.
"No, it's not for a business deal. We're getting married because it's what two people do when they're in love."
He shook his head, "Finola hates you; she would never marry someone like you." I always knew she Finola didn't like me, just like I didn't like her. It wasn't a surprise to hear it coming from Joseph's mouth. He was right; she would have never married someone like me because she wasn't my type, and I would have never looked at her if it wasn't for my need for revenge.
"That's what you think." What could be worst than finding out your ex is marrying your brother? Finding out that your ex was with your brother before you broke up with her.
"Are you saying she was cheating on me with you?" I could hear the hurt and misbelieve in his voice. He knew her; they had been best friend and partners for almost three years now. He knew she wouldn't do that but it didn't stop him from cheating on her constantly. Did he really know what she was capable of? I bet he wouldn't pin her for the revenge type and yet she was.
"Would it matter if she did? You should have known your relationship with her was domed. After all, you were cheating on her constantly." I knew what kind of words would get my brother even angrier than he was. He didn't like being called a cheat, even though he was one.
"Our breaking up had nothing to do with me cheating!" he exclaimed.
"Of course, it didn't." I was going to be sarcastic but change the tone of my voice quickly. I knew exactly how to get him, "She broke up with you so she can be with me. The man she really loves."
His green eyes got a few shades darker, and he shouted, "Finola hates you. I could see it in her eyes every time your name was mentioned in a conversation."
"And yet, she's never turned me down when I went to visit her office twice a month. Maybe it was the love you saw in her beautiful, hazel coloured eyes." Even though we both had a mutual hatred for each other, she never slammed her door in my face. She would sit, listen and roll her eyes occasionally. Then she'd say he favourite line, 'don't you have some rich man's daughter to seduce, go do that and leave me the hell alone.'
I looked at my brother's facial expression; I knew exactly what he was thinking about.
Me and Finola having sex on her office desk.
"You're invited to come to our wedding on Saturday. I wouldn't let my little brother miss the most important day of my life."
"Saturday!" he said, ignoring every word I said after Saturday.
I smirk at him, "Yes, we've been waiting for a while now, and since the two of you are finally over, we can begin our new life together." The life that involves making you crumble.
"Is she pregnant for you, is that why you're marrying her?" he question. I wanted to laugh, but I held it in.
"No, she isn't pregnant," I smiled mischievously. "but maybe I should get her pregnant, don't you think? After all, it's going to be a very very long honeymoon, and we'd make pretty babies. My eyes, her facial structure." When Joesph wasn't a backstabbing son of a baker, he was actually a decent man. One who adored babies. What another way to get him pissed than to tell him about the babies I'm going to make with the woman he wants, his best friend.
"You're not going to marry her, " He backed away from my desk and ran his hand through his hair. "I won't allow it. Over my dead body." he fumed as he looked in my eyes with pure hatred.
"Then prepare to die."
