Letters to nowhere - Part IX

Scarlett

''We still have an entire day ahead of us, come with me?'' He gently lifts me up, the trust he'd instilled in me in such a short span of time proved to be remarkable, ''Where are we going?'' My tone easy and calm as I followed him, ''You'll see'' he grins in an attractive tone.

Whooh! Well I bet he had to be the cynosure of all hearts, with his absolutely charming personality, not to forget his to die for looks and oh, his bod-- Scarlett control yourself!! I quickly nod my head trying to concentrate on the path we'd taken, ''Wait!'' I stop him, ''We're heading towards people, they may notice me'' I tug his hand trying to pull him aside, well obviously my attempts were futile as he stood steady, ''Drop your hood and stay behind me, it's not much further from here'' he instructs.

''Alright here goes--'' my words are replaced by a slight shriek, ''What's wrong?'' He questions as he notices me bending down to my ankle, ''Nothing serious, it's just a little painful'' I stand up and drop my hood, preparing for the walk.

''Let me see'' he sits down and gently lifts my ankle, ''No I'm okay serious--CANE!'' I shout as my body is easily lifted off the ground, ''Now wouldn't it be wrong if I left the princess to walk with a sore ankle?'' He smirks, ''I think it's best if you errrmm, maybe conceal your face by putting your arm around me and leaning your head against my chest? Just for, safety purposes you know'' I smile in response, safety purposes yeah right.

And ofcourse, once again, my body played captive to my feelings and my head leaned against his well built chest, he chuckles, ''Atta girl!''

I close my eyes and exhale slowly,

''Oh hold your mouth Scarlett! Spending ten minutes with him and then pretending to faint is NOT getting to know the guy! Did he even carry you home!? Or did he get servants to do it for him?? Don't you think you deserve a guy that would do those things himself!!! Why don't you understand!''

Dylan's words echoed through my mind, suddenly, I had realised what he'd meant.

Sometimes we're so fixed on pain that we forget a thing called happiness, and maybe, along the line, if we never gave up, happiness would find us, would ignite our souls, then maybe pain wouldn't be so bad, perhaps we'd feel fortunate, maybe, those that have witnessed pain and darkness only needed a mere spark to awaken their spirits and set them soaring.

I open my eyes and take a look at the man holding me, the tiny light that eliminated every fear that gripped me, the spark that lit every dark corner in me, stood right before me. And just that feeling, was enough to change my entire pain filled mind set.

''We're here, give me a second okay?'' He places me down slowly, in front of a perfectly sized, brick faced house. I tug my hood down as he dashes inside, a few people walked on oblivious to my presence, ''Alright come here'' Cane says while lifting me once again, ''Keep your eyes closed'' he whispers while entering the house.

I close my eyes excitedly, the sound of the door closing behind us sent chills down my spine, ''We're going upstairs now, don't worry, you're safe with me'' his voice instantly soothing all the tension that had crept into me.

My body is lowered once again, a door opens allowing a calming breeze through, ''This way'' he takes my hand guiding me, ''Okay, three, two, one'' I open my eyes according to his count and immediately gape in awe, the tiny balcony we stood on was perfectly decorated with white lit candles, adding an atmospheric lift, before me lay a pure white sheet with red petals scattered around, a few lights too, hung from the roof, ''So dear'' he grips my hand from behind and closes in, ''Today you have the chance to be you, but unfortunately not alone, this time, I'll be here, witnessing every enchanting second of it''

I turn to him, ''I can't believe you did all of this for me Cane, I've never--''

''Ssshhhh'' he instructs, ''You're worth much more than any of this''

They say true love touches you in unexplainable ways, ways in which you begin to love yourself, I felt that today, Cane made me feel as if I deserved to be treated in the best way possible, as if I deserved a second shot at life..
