Scarlett
I wearily drag my knees up to my chest as I rest my head on them. Nothing mattered to me, not the horrendous stench emerging from the dead body, not the unbearable piercing pain erupting from my stomach, not even the fear consuming me.

Instead, all that I could think of, all that I could remember, was him. I close my burning eyes and all those moments spent with him came rushing back...

''Scarlett, wake up!'' I shut my eyes tightly hoping that she'd give up and allow me to rest, ''Scarlett I know you're awake come on, there's no harm in trying it!''

I fumble moving myself deeper into the covers and grumble making it clear that I had no interest in her childish games, ''I'm not going to stop talking until you come out!'' She shouts.

Disgruntled, I throw my covers off, ''If you haven't noticed I'm actually really busy ignoring you right now'' Emily stands up cheerfully grabbing my hand and dragging me off the bed, ''Just one time please please'' She stares at me with a ray of hope in her eyes, ''Fine!'' I finally give in to my best friend's insistent behaviour.

She guides me to my desk, decorated with a pen and paper, ''Well go on!'' She persists, Oblivious to my peevish expressions, ''I really don't see the point of this Emily, a letter addressed to anywhere?''

She crosses her arms,''Scarlett would you please start!" I pick up the pen agitated, "Okay okay"

What would I write? To a complete stranger? Shakily I begin,

Dear:..........

I'm delight-----

Emily grabs the pen, "Scarlett! You're sending a letter to a stranger! In the form of a prank!" I look up at my immature yet loved best friend, "I'm a princess, I don't do informal"

"Aghhhhh! Pathetic, write something like, like, The body's in the boot or I'm outside your door!" She shouts excitedly.

"Okay okay calm down" I take the pen from her hand and once again begin writing,

Dear:...........
I am utterly, disastrously, hopelessly in love with you...

From: Me

Before I could lift the pen, Emily grabs the letter jumping up and down, "Noowww dear princess, pick your lover's address!"

Disinterested in her childish resort to entertainment, I stand up and walk away, "Scarlett! Agh alright just pick a spot and ill fill in the address! Please please pllleeaasseee!" She begs.

I turn towards her as she holds up a piece of paper with numerous contacts, I roll my eyes and point to one of them and without even reading the name, I dart off and jump into bed.

"Done your highness! I'll have this letter sent immediately!" Her footsteps fade as she exits my room. I giggle, amused at her cheerfulness. Emily's parents lived in the servant quarters, she's always up and about the castle and is tolerated only because she's my friend.

A few days later she barges in, "Scarlett! Guess who replied!" Her voice attracting everyone in the room. I shoot her a frown as mum walks towards her, "Who Emily?"

Emily instantly shoves the letter in her back pocket, "Sarah your highness, Scarlett and I have been waiting ages for her reply" Her gaze now lowered, "Well Alright, I'll leave you two to catch up" Mum says while leaving the room.

I quickly look back at Emily, "Are you insane??" She laughs, "Look what I've got!" She holds up the crumbled envelope, "He replied!"

I take the letter confused, "Who?"

"The stranger you wrote to silly!"

I divert my gaze back to the crumbled paper, shocked, "Well go on! Read it!" She exclaims.

I slowly Tear open the envelope,

Dear: You

And the maiden's name?

From: Cane

Heat engulfes my cheeks as a heavenly aroma emerges from the letter, "Oooooooo Cannneee" Emily taunts.

The door flings open as mum steps in, I quickly stuff the letter behind me, "Scarlett, I want you to meet someone, come down will you?"

"Sure, I'll be right there" I say while forcing a smile. Emily pushes her face forward as soon as mum leaves, "Soooooo are you going to reply???"

I nudge her, "Ofcourse not Emily! This is really immature, especially for a princess" I place the letter in my draw and close it.
