Scarlett

William's brilliantly executed planned had shocked me completely, after the drama pact scene a few minutes ago, I was transferred to the guest room in his castle.

My eyes fixed on the stunningly draped curtain swiftly moving with the breeze, I kneel onto the gentle carpet, unable to comprehend any of the incidents. Both heart and head refused to accept the forced seperation, maybe that's why I had held on so long.

The most difficult task you would ever face, would be painting vivid pictures of your future with the most perfect partner and then having to crush all of them, replacing faces. Have times changed so much, that we find ourselves attaching prices to love? Has it changed so much, that the most valuable things are placed beneath money and status? Was it wrong to have loved? Or to have loved someone different?

''Scarlett'' the door creeks open revealing a disturbed Dylan, I trail my gaze back onto the curtain as he enters, he crouches down beside me and fidgets uneasily, ''I need to talk to you'' he exhales sharply.

''Cane is in his custody'' I whisper emotionless as a tear laces my cheek, ''I know Scarlett'' he replies desultory. 

My heart beams wit hope, ''You can save him Dylan! Please help us! '' My body shakes and he immediately settles his hands on my shoulders calming me.

''I will, but on one condition'' I look at him in awe, how could he possibly expect anything right now?

''You have to leave him'' he states firmly. My body reacts on its own as I collapse slightly, my eyes grace nothing less than a thousand tears.

''How much more Scarlett? Are you going to hurt him if not yourself? Yes you both are prepared to take on the world for each other, ready to brace all things stopping you, but you need to understand, sometimes love isn't enough to make it work. And you're not giving a thought about him in the process Scarlett. I mean I can go and set him free, but how long till dad imprisons him? If you think they'll recognise the love you share and they'll accept you, don't fall on that bull. Dad was the one to send your wedding news to him!'' He stops and massages his forehead.

''You don't know the damage that awaits him and before you even get your happy ending, he'll be dead Scarlett! If not William than dad! You have to understand we minors cannot fight their authority, at the end of the day no one raises a finger at them, if we do, they silence us. You're destroying Cane in this love all because you guys think you're going to make it, but this system will never allow it! He will fight for you because he's chosen you, he's enduring all the pain for you, you're sensible Scarlett. Whatever your decision is, I will stand by it, just make sure you don't think about yourself here. And if you choose to elope will you both ever be content?! It will never work and it's not fair to drag him in this royal mess! I will be confronting William today, join me, with your decision'' he squeezes my hand lightly and places something in it, I open my closed hand only to find the ring I dropped the night I ran from the castle.

Dylan leaves the room as I clench the ring with tears trailing down my cheeks. How much more selfish could I have been? With no thought to Cane's sufferings at all. I had to put an end to everything, if I really loved him. He didn't deserve at all to be treated this way, I would free him, once and for all from this doomed love.
