Valentina woke up at the sound of her alarm. It was six thirty in the morning and she was tired as hell. But then she remembered something that made her morning just a tiny bit better; it's move in day at the Avano mansion.
She smiled and rolled off her lumpy bed. She just finished packing all of her things last night and Julian bought her a whole new wardrobe of her choice to wear as the Avano sister. Valentina walked towards the mirror and analyzed herself.
She was meant to be living like a queen. Her green eyes shone brightly and contrasted with her long dark wavy hair that fell to her waist. She was short in stature but her curves were all in the right places that made men craving for more.
There will be a lot of people who would doubt that she is the true Avano sister. She will prove them wrong. If possible, she can extend her job with Julian no matter what.
AS long as she continues getting money and getting paid.
Her phone rang. She looked at the caller ID and sighed. It was Tristan. Again.
She smirked to herself in amusement and didn't know why he's still interested. Maybe it's because she gave him a challenge of working hard for her kiss.
She ignored the call and hopped into the shower to get ready. After she was done, she picked out the outfit that she was going to wear when she sees the entire Avano clan.
Sifting through the piles of box in her tiny studio apartment, she finally found the dress she was looking for. It wasn't from a brand name clothing store that Julian bought for her but it was the crimson dress that her mother made for her before she passed away.
It was made of silk and it took a long time for her mother to finish making. She was weak when she was making the dress and her brother worked hard to be even able to afford to buy the material.
She put it on and it fit her like a glove. It gave her strength to pull through the revenge she spent years planning on. She pulled out some tanned wedges to go along with her outfit and headed to the door when she heard multiple knocks. Perhaps it was the guys who were going to help her move.
Once she opened, the door, she plastered a smile beforehand. Once she saw who it was, her smile faded. Tristan had his elbow resting on the door with a coy grin.
"We meet again, Ms. Sanchez." he grinned.
"Or should I say, Ms. Avano?"
"What can I help you with?" Valentina asked annoyed.
"I'm here to help." he simply said before barging into her studio apartment
"Wowww, you really do live in a dump." he tsked. Valentina's blood boiled before she took a deep breath to calm herself.
"Not everyone grew up with a silver spoon in their mouth." she replied as she began carrying the boxes outside of her apartment. She left with her head held high. Sure, she was born in poverty, but she will never be ashamed from where she came from. The moving truck was outside and she's not going to wait for Tristan or anybody to help her.
"I don't mean it like that." Tristan defended himself groaning.
Valentina ignored him and continued to heave the boxes outside. Tristan carried the other side of the box his hands grazing her fingers softly.
"I"m sorry if I've offended you. I only meant for it to be a joke." he told her.
"It's fine." Valentina said tonelessly.
"If you'd please, I'd like to get a start on moving my things." she added.
They spent most of the hours moving furniture and carrying Valentina's stuff to the moving truck while the neighbors in Valentina's street looked on.
Valentina kept her chin up and walked to Tristan's car and hopped in the seat.
"Are you ready?" he asked her.
"I was born ready." she replied boldly, determination oozing from her.
Let the games and destruction begin. *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Tristan sped through the beautiful and unique streets of San Francisco. Valentina couldn't help but admire her surroundings. She's never seen many parts of San Francisco before except for the streets near her apartment and the cafe she works in that was close to Avano Tech.
Tristan's car halted to a stop in front of a gated community.
Prestigio Heights were in big letters in front of the large silver gate. Of course, Valentina knew where they are. This part of San Francisco is where the rich live and the houses of many rich people live in.
It fit that the family of the Avanos would live in a gated community such as this. Once the silver gates opened when the guard recognized Tristan's car, the move in truck drove ahead of them and Valentina and Tristan followed suit.
Tristan parked his car in front of the largest mansion in the gated community and opened the door for Valentina. She was nervous but she refused to show it. She told herself that she can pull this off and that she can do this.
She already memorized the lines that Julian wanted her to say in the event anyone from the family would question her identity. She wouldn't let them know that she was fake.
Valentina took Tristan's extended hand gratefully. Although Tristan seemed like a fuckboy, she needed someone to hold onto or else she would have fallen on her knees from the nervous butterflies in her stomach.
Dahlia, Julian's mom wasn't discharged from the hospital yet. So Valentina was left alone with a bunch of strangers to fend for herself.
Tristan on the other hand was ecstatic that he was able to hold her hand and Valentina rolled her eyes at him.
The door was opened by a man in his mid fifties with a permanent smile on his face.
"Ms. Sanchez, what a pleasure to meet you." he grinned at her while motioning for her to come in.
"I'm Brams, I'm the butler of the Avano family." he introduced himself.
"It's a pleasure to meet you, Brams." Valentina grinned. She needed to win the trust of each and every individual in this house and she's not going to let a simple butler mess it up.
She'll have to pretend to be as sweet as a cupcake if she wants to pull this off. Even if her entire being wanted to be a bitch right now.
Brams continued to show her to her room and where she'll be sleeping while men from the moving truck company moved her things inside the mansion.
Valentina looked around the mansion appreciating every detail it had to offer. In the entrance, a chandelier hung above her and a long winding staircase met her at her left. She later learned that the mansion had ten bedrooms and barely anyone lived here except for Julian, his little brother, Dahlia, and Tia Lucia.
Hearing Tia Lucia's name made Valentina's blood boil. She never liked the woman from the very start. She could tell that this woman is single and in her mid forties. How pathetic for her and no wonder why she acts and dresses the way she does.
It's not going to be easy winning her and Julian over. But she sure can try. It wasn't going to be also easy pretending someone she's not but from the things that have happened to her. She can do anything.
Valentina was led to her room and wanted to squeal with joy on how big it was. She contained herself because Tristan was there. The room was bigger than her entire studio apartment and the old apartment she lived with her family before.
Inside the room, the bathroom had its own hot tub and bath tub. The gold decorations on the walls were so beautiful and the marble tiles emphasized that whoever decorated this house wanted every single detail to be perfect.
"I'll leave you to yourself then." Tristan said putting his arms around her waist causing Valentina to stiffen up. Before she could push him away, Tristan pulled away and left her alone to herself and her thoughts.
Once the door shut behind him, Valentina jumped on the large king bed and jumped up and down in laughter.
"Finally!" she exclaimed. "I finally can live the way I deserve to live." Valentina laid on the bed, happiness filling her entire being. She unpacked her stuff and reapplied her make up before going downstairs.
When she opened the door, she was met with a tall lanky dark haired boy. His lashes are thick and covered his eyes. His face structure was like Julian's. So he must be Justin Avano.
"Justin?" Valentina greeted him hesitantly. She read his body language before she thought about what she's going to say and how she's going to act.
"Yeah, that's me." he said shyly.
"I'm Valentina," she introduced herself.
"It's nice to meet you." he told her.
Silence entered between them and Valentina wanted to get rid of it so she can win an insecure little boy in the side of Valentina Sanchez.
"I don't really know you that well, but I'm not ready to consider you as my sister." he began after awhile.
"I've always known that I felt different when I was growing up." Valentina counteracted.
"Now I know why."
Justin turned and gave her something on her hand. It was a necklace in the shape of a heart with letters engraved into it.
Juliet was engraved into the surface of the golden heart.
"Was this..." Valentina wondered.
"Yes, it was yours. We found it when you went missing." Justin replied.
"Mom has kept it ever since."
Valentina examined the necklace in the light. Not bad. Not bad at all. It wasn't as expensive as she hoped it would be but it'll do.
"It's beautiful." she said curtly while unclasping the necklace to put it around her neck. Justin stopped her.
"Look, I don't know who you are but I'm sure that you're not really my sister." Justin said. "You haven't earned this necklace yet so you don't deserve to wear it."
"Well thank you for the greeting little brother." Valentina said sadly. Inside, however, she was enraged. How dare this little boy question who she is? But then again, she needed to be more careful with her eyes now. Anyone can see that she has been eyeing the mansion hungrily the minute she set foot inside.
It was tough to win Tia Lucia, but she also has to win this little brat to make her life here easier too.
"No problem. Enjoy your stay here while it lasts." he muttered before turning around.
He was about to descend down the stairs before Valentina stopped him with her words. "I didn't want to be an Avano. I wanted to continue being a Sanchez." she paused hoping that the teenage boy would listen to her.
"When Julian found me, I wanted to keep my normal life but I only did it because I should at least see my biological mother before she..." Valentina trailed.
Justin turned his head to look at her. His face was stone cold like his older brothers. It's going to be a tough one to crack this one.
"I won't be staying here long. In fact, I don't even want to be tied to the name Avano, after all the scandals and corruption I've heard from this family's company."
And with that, she turned around and slammed the door shut behind her. That serves the little boy right. Although he's only a few years younger than her, his little tantrum about having another 'sister' coming into his life was pretty immature.
Her phone vibrated on the polished mahogany desk to her right. Picking it up, Valentina scrolled through the texts that Julian sent her.
"Come outside. We need to talk." are all the brief texts that he sent her along with attachments he expects there to be read by whenever she faces one of the family members.
Valentina groaned exhaustion clouding her mind. She just wanted to take a nap after moving in to the mansion. She walked towards the door and descended down the stairs and was about to head to the front door before a hand pulled at her wrist.
Tristan.
"Whoa, where are you heading off to?" he asked her playfully. "Have you eaten yet?"
Valentina's stomach growled when he finished asking this question. Of course she was hungry, but she's at work now and this play boy is waisting her time.
"I haven't but I've got to go to work. I'm late." she said pulling away slowly.
He nodded in understanding. With that, Valentina sprinted to the front door as fast as her heels could take her and saw Julian's Black Bugatti. It was chilly and the cold bit into her skin but she ignored it.
Although the text seemed simple and a command, she felt as if there's more to it. Maybe Justin snitched on her. That brat.
Once she reached the car, she opened the door and sat on the passenger seat.
"You called for me?" she said greeting Julian.
She eyed him. Julian was as serious as usual with his regular black suit and slicked back hair. She swore that this was the only outfit she ever sees him in. He always looked like he's going to a funeral.
"It's only your first day and you already screwed up." he said calmly.
His words stung although Valentina didn't want to admit it. She clenched her fist. If only she could punch him in the face.
"What do you mean?"
"Multiple people see you as an impostor."
