That was unexpected. She didn't expect him to ask her to be his sister. She expected to be someone else to him instead.
A lover.
But this would do. For now.
Valentina plastered a shocked look on her face before leaning close to him.
"And why would I want to be your sister?" she asked him, tilting her head slightly.
"It's only for one night." he informed.
Valentina shook her head. "That's not enough reason for me to do it." Of course there's no other reasons that Valentina would do it. She's just playing with him. She wanted to make it look like that she wasn't going to buy into it easily.
"I'll pay you money for pretending to be my sister for that night." Julian added desperately.
Now that's more like it, Valentina thought.
"And how much would that be, Mr. Avano?"
"Two thousand dollars. Per hour." he replied simply.
Valentina's jaw was about to drop. Damn, that much amount of money?
"Is there anything that entails with this deal?" She asked him. This was too good to be true. But she needed the money. And she needed to get closer to Julian Avano.
"No, I consider this as a business deal between you and I. And I expect it to remain that way during that time."
It's not going to be just business after I'm done. Valentina thought.
"Then I'll do it." she agreed.
Julian's eyes widened a little as if he was surprised that she took it so quickly. Valentina didn't need to say anything. She will make him change his mind about her.
His nimble fingers slipped her his business card under the table so slight that Tristan didn't notice the intense aura radiating from the two.
"Um, did I miss anything here guys?" he asked us.
"No, none at all." Valentina answered.
"It was nice to meet you Mr. Avano." she smiled sweetly at him, as if nothing happened.
"It was nice to see you again, Tristan." she said softly, looking at him with her large brown eyes. Tristan gave her a lazy grin, as if knowing that he's got her under his large black book of women.
"Always a pleasure, Valentina."
That night, Valentina went to her run down apartment close to the cafe she worked in and laid on the uncomfortable mattress in the studio apartment. Even renting this studio was expensive as hell. She couldn't do it. Unless she took Julian's offer.
Pictures of her family were plastered on the wall while a picture of a man has been scratched out. She gazed lovingly at a picture wrinkled with age. It was the last time she, her mother, and brother were together.
Her brother Vincent after a week later of that happy moment, was arrested for being a part of a gang rape of some seemingly innocent girl in Los Angeles. She couldn't believe it, her brother would never do such a thing as that.
He never did. Apparently, some of the men that participated in that gang rape were rich kids who were visiting Los Angeles and the "innocent" girl couldn't remember any of the other men but her brother. Vincent was then imprisoned without justice because she and her mom could never afford a good lawyer that would plead their case. Later on, Vincent committed suicide in prison.
The family wasn't doing well either. Valentina's mom got sick with heart problems and she soon passed away. She never got to live to see Valentina prove Vincent's innocence. To her mother and to the rest of the world, her brother was a monster. A rapist.
All thanks to Julian Avano.
After remembering this painful memory, Valentina crumpled her fist tightly. The man that was part of the gang rape her brother was accused of was the one and only Julian Avano.
It took a short amount of time and a lot of hard work for her to leave San Bernadino and be accepted into the prestigious Allegia university, where the Avano family ruled.
Valentina switched her intentions of becoming a heart surgeon to law in order to save those from being wronged by people higher up, just as she and her family have been victims by the Avano family.
She walked to the dirty full length mirror on the other side of the room to look at herself. Julian bought her clothes fit for someone that's part of the Avano clan. She wore a white coat and expensive black heels. She didn't know where he's going to take her, but she knew she had to look decent.
"Wear your hair down, and wear less eye makeup." he ordered her.
She was about to complain since she didn't want anyone telling her how to dress and what to do. Yet, she kept her mouth silent.
Valentina wore less makeup and when her phone rang, she immediately sprinted for it in her heels and answered.
"Hello?" she greeted him.
"I'm outside, come down." the smooth baritone voice replied.
Valentina obliged. Although it was hard going down the stairs in heels, it was worth it if she's about to get paid $2,000 per hour that she pretends to be his sister. Hopefully, she gets to keep the clothes Julian bought for her so she can resell them.
He was looking handsome in his black button up and his hair slicked back. He eyed her outfit approvingly and let out a grunt "Hurry up, we're late."
She rolled her eyes. OF course he's going to be an asshole about it. Valentina was grateful that she was going to make money tonight and possibly a way to get closer to Julian.
"Where are we going?" she asked him.
"You'll know when we get there." He told her.
Valentina remained silent. She was scared although she's afraid to admit it. She didn't like this one bit.
As the city lights passed her by as they sped through San Francisco, they soon pulled into a parking space behind a modern hospital.
Mercy Hospital, the lights blared for many years it seemed like. Julian opened the door for her and led her inside the clean polished hospital.
Valentina then realized why they were here. As they took the elevator to the tenth floor, Valentina's mind began to wander. They must be here for someone close to Julian Avano himself.
His hand landed on the back of her waist and he opened the door that was closest to the elevator. AS the door swung open, it showed a beautiful woman on the hospital bed.
She was hooked on to so many machines that it was hard to even realize she was beautiful once in her life. She was breathing slowly while the machines around her beeped and made high noises once in a while.
"Julian..." she wheezed, opening her eyes slowly.
"Mother," he murmured taking her hand into his. Julian's usual cold, stoic face softened.
"I'll die...without seeing my little girl." she said softly her green eyes tearing up.
Little girl...it must be Julian's sister that she was talking about Valentina mused.
"I found her mother." Julian said softly. He took Valentina's hand into his and pushed her closer to the dying woman.
Valentina didn't know what to do. She didn't expect Julian to pay her so much to lie to his mother. But then she wouldn't be surprised. After all, this was the reason why her brother was sent to prison.
"Hi...mom." her voice cracked. This woman reminder her of her deceased mother too well. She died in a hospital bed. Although this woman wasn't her real mother, it pained her to see someone like this because the memories were too much.
The blonde haired woman's eyes widened in surprise. "It can't be," she keeps saying. "My Juliet has come back home." Tears began to well up in her eyes, and Valentina couldn't help but do the same as well.
"I've been looking for you for so long." she said to Valentina.
"I've been looking for you too." Valentina replied.
"Now, I can finally rest...in...peace..." the woman sighed.
Julian began to panic. "Mom, please don't leave yet. You can't do this to me right now. PLEASE!" he begged her.
The woman's eyes slowly closed and her hand in Julian's went limp. Valentina's eyes widened in shock as the man in front of her began to weep. Once her surprise dissipated, Valentina returned to her usual self.
How pathetic, she thought.
Julian has no idea what pain she had felt when she lost her entire family. She lost her mother and brother at the same time and although it hurts her to think about them, she uses them to aid her and motivate her into destroying Avano Tech.
Julian continued crying and clutching his mother's body to his. Valentina was no doctor of course, yet she thought it would be nice to inform Julian something.
"Hey..." she began. "She hasn't died yet." she pointed out as her finger led to the EKG machine. It was supposed to make a drawn out beeping noise if a patient has died.
"Oh..." Julian said, realization setting in. He removed his head from his arms and stood up from his kneeling position.
Valentina headed towards the door, getting the hint that Julian wanted to be left alone with his mother.
She waited in the hallway for a few minutes when the door next to her opened. Julian had his hands in his pockets, the circles under his eyes more evident after his crying spree.
"Thank you," he bagan. "I thought I lost her." he added.
"It's no problem." Valentina replied crossing her arms.
"Please remember the details about our deal," He reminded her. "Don't tell anyone about this or I will have you sued."
Valentina raised both hands in a defending position. "Okay, okay, I won't. Can I keep the entire outfit though?" she asked him.
"You can keep all of it." Julian replied tiredly as he yawned. She couldn't help but yawn too.
"You can sleep in the next room if you want." he said pointing out the door next to his mother's room.
Valentina nodded. She was tired from work and all her anxiety on what type of job Julian will have her do. She headed to the room, took off her heels and fell asleep on the mattress in he guest room of the hospital.
Once she woke up again the next morning, Valentina decided to brush her teeth in the bathroom. She couldn't find Julian, and he was her only ride home.
After she finished brushing her teeth, Valentina decided to take a shower. She took off the clothes Julian bought for her and washed herself. The bathroom was complete with shampoos and soap that she can choose from a variety.
She washed herself , sighing that she hasn't had a relaxing one ever since she moved to San francisco. Valentina caught herself from feeling sorry for Julian's mother. She was one of the reasons why her brother Vincent killed himself in prison. Julian's mother didn't raise her son well enough not to rape women without their consent.
Valentina stopeed her thoughts before they could consume her. She dried her wet hair and stepped outside the shower. She wore the silk red dress under the white coat she wore as well as the black heels she wore.
As she stepped out of the bathroom, she collided with a strong chest that caught her by the waist. She knew this familiar feeling all too well. Behold, Tristan Park smirked before her before his face switch from smug to surprise.
"Valentina..." he began one perfect brow raised in confusion, "What are you doing here?" he asked her.
Shit.
