Episode 4
Episode 4: Attack of the Lady Manager!?!?
The school day way pretty normal, I went to class after speaking with Haruhi, spent the rest of my day spacing out because I had already learned the lessons, some girls came up to ask about Haruhi, I used my charms to distract them before making my escape, and then I met up with Mitsukuni and Mori before we headed to the club room.
Today's theme was traditional, everyone was decked out in kimonos courtesy of the twins' mother. Tamaki sat on a throne-like chair while showing a tearful smile to the girls he had been wooing. The twins were doing their usual brotherly love act, but Kaoru had tears in his eyes. I turned my attention to my beloved cousin, she was dressed in a more girlish looking kimono with bows in her short hair. More girl customers greeted her with small blushes and compliments much to my amusement, ignorance truly was bliss. Kyoya sat at a small table managing the expenses and keeping track of the club's visitors; he spoke to Haruhi about her debt causing her to look a bit annoyed.
I turned my attention to the approaching Honey with tears in his eyes; he held up a single sandal while walking barefoot, "Haru-chan I lost my sandal!" his sniffling voice brought the situation to many girls' attention.
"What? But you just had it," Haruhi stepped down fro her sitting area in order to help Honey.
"Mitsukuni..." the low voice of Mori entered the scene, he lifted the small blonde's foot and slipped on the missing sandal.
"Takashi..." came Honey's soft reply.
"I saw it lying there..." was Mori's stoic reply, unfazed by the growing audience of desperate fangirls.
"Takashi!" Honey leapt into the larger one's arms with small tears of joy, ending the adorable Cinderella moment with a hug.
Haruhi looked slightly confused and annoyed with the tear fest going on at the cub today. I watched from my pedestal-like resting place with Mimiko, Cordelia, a Elizabeth. We sat in the shade o many Japanese styled parasols, hidden from the view of the guests and other hosts. I served tea and we chatted about our days and everything important that happened to them. I heard more of the guests swooning and when I looked outside at the scene before me I saw Haruhi talking about her mother and then Tamaki being overly dramatic as always. I watched as Haruhi ignored poor Tamaki in favor of the girl standing in the entrance. The twins tried to flirt with her, but seemed to come off as too aggressive for Tamaki, so as the leader he stepped in...only to be rejected quite harshly. She went into a full rant about how Tamaki's "character" was all wrong for the Host Club's image. Tamaki didn't take it too well...in fact he practically fainted right after she verbally abused him. Then, as if things weren't weird enough, the girl leapt into Kyoya's arms, shocking the host club as well as a certain magenta eyed friend of mine. I felt it was my turn to make my presence known.
"Miss..." my low sultry tone caught the girl's attention as I slowly stepped out from behind my cover. My long black kimono with blue and plum butterfly designs trailed behind me as I walked with a parasol on my shoulder and heeled sandals to help my height, "Maybe we should discuss this over some tea..." I smiled kindly and stretched out an inviting hand, black roses framed my face.
"Hime-sama..." he girl whispered in amazement as she released Kyoya. He gave me a small nod in thanks when our eyes met. She grabbed my hand as I gracefully lead her to a table and served her tea. The other guests were politely asked to leave and I entertained the girl while the rest of the hosts changed out o their costumes. When they returned she introduced herself, "My name is Renge Hoshikuji and I am transferring into Ouran Academy's first years class-A tomorrow..." I sat sipping tea with Mimiko, the others had to go home earlier. I smirked in amusement at the notion of this hyperactive girl being the fiancé of the calm and collected Kyoya Ootori. It was plain to see that Kyoya already liked someone, and that someone was sitting right next to me.
Looking over at the others, I saw Tamaki sulking and the others looking at him strangely. Kyoya seemed to complain abut how everyone referred to the two good friends as husband and wife, I personally found it endearing because they were polar opposites but two of the closest friends I have ever seen. Renge seemed to break the spell though with her rant about a character in a video game, yes a video game. As in Kyoya was just a look alike and therefore earned Renge's affections.
"OTAKU!!!!!!" Tamaki shouted in horror followed by the twins and Kaoru's unmistakable, "I've never seen one!" I sighed at their rudeness, honestly she was just a young girl blinded by her obsession turned affection.
"I see, you are in love with this character and are projecting that love onto me. Somehow deluding yourself into thinking that we are engaged, I assume this character wears glasses also?" Kyoya looked at me for confirmation of his analysis. I nodded with a small smile and a pat on Mimiko's head, she had been sulking ever since Renge declared Kyoya was engaged to her. She met my eyes with a small smile and laugh. The other hosts were playing catch up on the situation while Renge was off in some sort of fangirl rant about her "dear sweet Kyoya".
As the situation calmed down and Renge re-entered the conversation once more she declared herself the new manager of the host club. Everyone seemed uneasy about the whole idea, but had no time to worry about that. As soon as Kyoya agreed to the arrangement I heard the harsh sound of a tea cup breaking. I looked over to see Mimiko stuttering apologies with a few bleeding fingers. The other hosts looked at the scene in shock and worry, I grabbed the nearby towel to stop the blood while grabbing Mimiko's other hand, "I'm going to clean her injuries, if someone could please clean up the mess and just continue on, I will pay for the broken cup just don't let anyone else get hurt..."
While we were leaving the room I heard Renge sigh, "She is so kind yet stern! Oh she truly is a princess, no! A queen!"
I sigh a bit before taking Mimiko to the nurse, since it was after school I had to wash her wounds myself before patching them up, "Now spill."
"What do you mean Vanessa?" came her delicate reply, she looked at me with eyes about ready to cry.
"What happened back there with the tea cup, you never get this upset especially concerning a crazed fan-girl that is younger than us. You could have hurt yourself worse than this..." I sat next to her on the empty bed, worry coloring my tone.
"Honestly? I have no idea," she sighed and took off her glasses to rub her magenta eyes, "It's just the way she clung to him and claimed love fore him just because of his similarities to a video game character she loves, it's illogical! She doesn't even know him but all of a sudden she bursts in claiming that she is going to marry him! It vexes me, especially how Kyoya just agreed to having her become the manager!" she visibly deflated, "All for the Ootori name, I swear that's all he thinks about sometimes..."
I pulled her into a tight hug while petting her raven locks in a soothing manner, "Oh Mimi, you know that's not true. He cares about other things like...the host club, Tamaki, you..."
"He has no interest in a girl from a small pharmaceuticals company Ness, it's just how it is..." she gave a small sad smile and I felt my heart break at the sight. This sweet, timid, and unbelievably kind girl honestly has no clue that she has one of the coldest men I have ever met wrapped around her dainty little finger.
"Mimi..." I sighed, I swear people really are dense when it comes to romance, "Why don't you spend the night at my house? We can talk about this more and come up with a plan..."
"A plan?" she asked in a confused voice. I stood from the bed and held out my hand to help her up, se accepted it.
"Yes a plan," I smirked, "I'm going to help you with your little problem with Mr. Glasses!" I smiled at her once more while grabbing Peter.
"Alright Ness...I'm trusting you..." Mimiko stood from the bed as well. We walked out of the school and I saw Haruhi by my limo, waiting for us. Once we were inside, she explained what had happened while we were gone and Mimiko explained her dilemma. After dropping Haruhi off at her house, Mimiko and I began formulating our pan of action.
"If we could just get him alone you two could talk!" I explained.
"He would never leave the club alone, especially Tamaki..." Mimiko muttered.
"Maybe we don't have to get him alone..." I looked at Mimiko with an idea forming in my mind.
"Oh no, I know that look Vanessa. What are you planning?" Mimiko asked with worry crossing her features.
I giggled, which, to most, is never a good sign, "Hey Mimi, have you ever thought about contacts?"
(time skip because I'm evil and won't tell you the plan!)
We all gathered in the host club the next day, Tamaki was formulating another scheme for Haruhi, and I sat with Peter next to Honey. Mimiko, who was not present, seemed happier after our little sleep over last night, and this morning I had walked with her to class so that she didn't feel as self conscious. It was priceless! The look on Kyoya's face when she greeted him this morning was hilarious! His eyes were wide in surprise and his glasses slipped slightly...I was happy to get a few photos before he recovered.
"Hello everyone! You will be glad to know that your new manager has baked you all cookies!" Renge's high pitched voice sounded from the doorway. Tamaki tried to sweet talk her again today, but she denied him once more in favor of Kyoya. While Tamaki sulked in his gloom corner Honey had grabbed one of the cookies and began to eat.
"She really wasn't kidding these are burnt!" was his muffled reply before Mori stepped in to tell him to stop eating the cookie because it was bad for him. Renge seemed rather upset and began chasing them around, that's when I decided to step in. I grabbed a few of the cookies before making my way over to them.
"Miss Renge it's rude to talk with your mouth full," I shoved a cookie into her mouth before giving her a stern look. She swooned while mumbling something about a queen, whatever that meant. I handed the other cookies to Mori and Honey along with some milk before making my way over to my cousin. When I looked back at the two males, Honey was smiling at me.
I watched Tamaki flip out about the twins messing with my cousin and how she didn't do much to stop it. I sighed before making my way to one of the plush single chairs in a rather dark corner of the room. I sat with Peter while sipping tea, watching everything unfold. I noticed Renge ha recovered and was watching the hosts interact as well, Honey had gone up to offer her some of his milk but she just stared at him with a calculating look.
"Lukewarm..."
"Huh?" Hone lifted his head in question at Renge's comment.
"Each and every one of your guys' characters, accept for Kyoya and the Queen, is lukewarm!" Renge exclaimed, "Each of you needs to have some sort of dark side! Girls are vulnerable to good looking men who are troubled! If you keep going on like this then it won't be long before the guests stop coming all together, are you trying to ruin my precious Kyoya's business!? As your manager it is my job to change you character backgrounds starting with you!" She pointed to Honey, "From now on you'll be known as the Baby-Faced Thug! And Mori is his childhood friend the Flunky! The twins will be basket-ball players tapped in their own little world, Haruhi you'll be the honors student who is constantly bullied! And as for you!" She pointed to Tamaki, "You are the school's idol hat is worshipped for your good looks but actually has an inferiority complex that you're hiding from the world, The Lonely Prince!" Tamaki went into shock mode as he processed what Renge had said. She turned her attention to Kyoya, "But you are perfect just the way you are Kyoya so just stay as kind and affectionate as always!"
"Thank you, I'm honored," came Kyoya's polite reply.
"Wait!" the twins chorused, "We can't let do this Kyoya-sempi!"
"Why not? The boss seems up for it..."
"Well what about Vanessa?" Hikaru started.
"That's right! How come she doesn't need a background change?" Kaoru finished.
"That's right! How could I forget the Queen!?" Renge exclaimed in shock.
"Queen?" the other hosts asked in confusion.
"Yes the Queen!" She then pointed to me as I sat in my darkened corner, the way I sat in the chair did sort of paint the image of a queen on her throne. "With the beauty and majesty of royalty, she is obviously the Queen character! She is kind and fair in her rule but has a stern dark side! She rules over the school in more ways than one! She also has two sides to her, one is the kind side she shows for teachers, staff, and students while the other is her cruel dark side for the one's that have crossed her!" Renge sighed dreamily, "She really is perfect!"
I began to giggle but it came out sounding like a dark chuckle, "I suppose this could be a fun experience, why not try it? Though I may add a few...suggestions."
"Oh no..." the hosts chorused.
I motioned for Renge to follow as I walked out of the room, "Why don't we put their new characters to god use? I can get some friends of mine to help..."
"Wait! You're Yana Toboso's daughter! I've read her mangas! Oh my god! I can't believe I'm actually talking to you right now!!!" Renge squealed. I smiled kindly while we discussed the plan, this is going to be fun...
[This next part of the story is in third person pov to depict all aspects of the coming scenes]
The bright lights of the gym shine down as the screaming fans shout in congratulations of Hikaru's shot into the basket. He was happy, the adoring fans cheered in excitement, but the he saw him. His twin brother, Kaoru, was on the floor clutching an injury, They had a touching moment of deep brotherly love.
Your pain is my pain...it doesn't matter as long as I have you I can go on living...
Rain was pouring down as the scene switched to outside. The grey cast a sorrowful feeling throughout as Tamaki spoke to the two twins, "I'm envious of how you two support each other like that. All everyone ever does is worship me for something so superficial such as my appearance, maybe it will be best if I were to stay alone..."
One lonely heart meets another, they pass each other hurting one another in the process...
Haruhi runs past Tamaki in an attempt to escape something unseen, their eyes meet for a split second before they part. The young honors student makes it to the trees before reaching a dead end.
What are the hearts of these young students made of!?
Haruhi turns at the sound of a voice, "You can't run away forever...I'm gonna show you what happens when you cross me..." Mitsukuni walks up with Mori as Haruhi slides down the tree into a sitting position with a defeated look.
"Don't do it Mitsukuni, you should have realized by now hat whenever you hurt someone you are really only hurting yourself..." Mori tried to get him to stop but to no avail.
"Mitsukuni!" a voice shouts in anger and distress, "Get away from Haruhi! He hasn't done anything to you, it's me you want!"
Out of the shadows the light of this school shows herself to protect what she cares for most...
The rain soaked figure of a girl dressed in black emerges from the trees to stand in front of her beloved cousin. Her plum locks looked black and her eyes shined with contempt, "Why must you do this!? Do you find pleasure in hurting those you find weak? Or is it the fact that when you don't know how to deal with something you lash out!?"
Honey scoffed, "You don't even know me..." He stepped forward and harshly pulled Vanessa away from her cousin.
Vanessa held her ground as she looked into the honey colored eyes of Mitsukuni, "I know enough..."
His eyes darkened as he grabbed Vanessa's chin, "It really pisses me off when people don' know their place..." he spoke coldly with a smirk before pulling her face closer to his.
Will it be the light of salvation that ultimately waits for these students? Or will it be...something else?
Their faces were inches from one another, neither could look away as their lips barely touched...when Haruhi sneezed...
[End of third person pov]
"Cut! Cut, cut, cut!" Renge shouted to the movie crew and director, "That scene was perfect until Haruhi sneezed! The rain is supposed to make things seem tragic while the kiss was supposed to add some pizzazz since the those two characters supposedly hate each other because of their backgrounds! Now we need to redo it!" Renge went to go speak with the director while I dried off with a towel. I went to give Honey, Mori, and Haruhi on as well. We went our separate ways to wait for our scenes.
Honey came over to me with a bag of cookies and some water, "Here Nessa-chan!"
"Thanks Mitsukuni, that's very sweet of you," I took a sip of my water, "You know you did really well during the scene today..."
I gave him a sideways glance when he blushed, "O-Oh, really?" I nodded, "Well thanks, I felt sbad that I had to be mean though..." He mumbled cutely.
I giggled, "Mitsukuni it's just a movie, it isn't like we're fighting in real life, besides I find it fun!"
"Fun? What do you mean?" Honey looked at me with confusion.
"I think acting is fun. You get to explore a whole new part of yourself that you never knew about because of your character..." I explained with a bright smile.
"Yeah...I guess you're right Vanessa..." Honey looked at me with a semi-serious expression before smiling slightly.
"Mitsuk-!" His lips met mine in a soft kiss before he pulled away. Then he winked and left me to stare at his retreating form with a blush on my face, I didn't have long to ponder though because I heard a loud crash coming from where Haruhi was suppose to be.
I rushed to the scene just in time to see Renge get pushed by two thug-like boys and Haruhi protect her from the fall, "Haru!" I shouted just as Tamaki rounded the next corner.
"What happened Haruhi?" as soon as Tamaki and I saw Haruhi in tears, something snapped.
"You know..." and ominous dark aura surrounded me as I spoke, "I've permanently injured people for less than this offense, now would one of you like to tell me what the heck is going on or do I have to resort to violence?" I growled.
Tamaki rushed forward and held one of the boys by his collar, "Answer the question! Which one of you jerks is responsible?"
"Wait please! It's not what it looks like! The girl started this, she was giving us a hard time!" The other boy explained with a panicked voice.
Haruhi grabbed my hand and squeezed it lightly, "He's telling the truth guys; it wasn't their fault, they were provoked." Tamaki dropped the boy and they both fled. Haruhi kept rubbing her eyes so I went to her bag to retrieve the contact solution. When I came back Tamaki was laughing and Haruhi had a content smile on her face.
"I get it now," Tamaki smiled "You can cry without the help of eye drops, you are a full-fledged host now!" I handed Haruhi the solution and she gave me a grateful smile.
"Please tell me you got that cameraman!" Renge shouted in glee, when she got the okay she was ecstatic, "Other than Haruhi's contact falling out that was the ideal last scene! Now all we need is a moving narration from my sweet Kyoya and-!" she was cut off by the sound of broken glass. Kyoya had just taken a rock to the camera lens.
"What? Is something wrong?" Renge seemed timid when facing Kyoya now. As I watched the scene I saw a familiar ravenette standing off to the side, her magenta eyes flicked towards me while giving a nod on greeting.
"I'm terribly sorry but I can't allow there to be any record of a club member engaging in violence, I think you have caused enough trouble Renge, please stop being such a pest..." Kyoya gave a small icy glare to show he wasn't playing around any longer.
As the realization kicked in, Renge began to cry, "B-But! You're supposed to pat me on the head and tell me not to worry, you're supposed to be kind and affectionate Kyoya! Why are you so different!?" She shouted.
"Because that isn't the real Kyoya..." The usually soft and timid voice of Mimiko was now strong and confident as she spoke to Renge, "You base your affections on attributes that your character has, not Kyoya. Maybe you should think about getting to know the people before claiming love at first sight or else none of your relationships will last..." Her thick lashes framed large jewel like magenta eyes instead of hiding them behind her large glasses, her long hair was down and in thick curls. She had a new air of confidence about her that I hardly got to see. I was proud of Mimiko, just like we discussed, she was taking charge and getting what she wants.
Renge fell to her knees, crying, before Haruhi stepped up and knelt before her, "Does it really matter? So what if Kyoya is a little different than you originally thought? Just get to know the person little by little, it's a lot more fun that way!" She gave the tearful girl a bright smile. Renge deflated in a defeated manner before final giving a nod of understanding.
Shortly after we had cleaned everything up from the movie crew and were sitting down in the club room. Haruhi and I sat on the couch waiting for my limo to take us home, Peter sat on my lap. When I looked up I saw Mimiko approaching. She flashed me a bright smile while I smirked back, it seems she's putting phase two of our plan into action.
"Hey Ootori!" She called causing the dark haired second year to turn his attention to her. She stood in front of him with a small smirk before yanking on his tie effectively pulling him into a kiss. Many of the hosts were shouting out in surprise while Haruhi and I just smiled, When she pulled away Kyoya looked down at her in shock, "You will be taking me out to dinner at eight tomorrow night. It's a date, okay?" He nodded still in shock as she left. When she passed me she whispered, "Thanks for the help." I smiled and gave a nod. After that little event I went to Kyoya.
"Listen here Kyoya, if you so much as blink at Mimiko the wrong way on your date tomorrow I will personally beat you until you can't even remember how to properly add 2 + 2, are we clear?" He nodded and then smiled, "Also congrats, you got your girl!"
"True but what happened to her? I was certain that I would have had to be the one to make the first move but surprisingly that wasn't the case..." Then he turned to me with eyes full of suspicion, "You wouldn't happen to know anything about it, would you?"
"I just gave her some confidence, the rest was all her...I'd be happy if I were you Kyoya," I smirked, "If it wasn't for me you would still be single..."
He gave a small smirk in return and as I was about to leave for the day he muttered a quick thanks.
(Next Day!)
I sat with my usual group in a darkened part of the room. Every now and then Mitsukuni and I would make eye contact before quickly sifting our gazes elsewhere. I couldn't stop thinking about the kiss, it wasn't our first but he was the one to initiate it...what did that mean for us? Mimiko, seemingly noticing my inner turmoil whispered so the others wouldn't overhear, "I think it's time you took your own advise Ness..."
I smirked before giving a small sigh, "I will eventually..." I wistful tone was drowned out by loud squealing. All of the girls were raving about the movie, including Elizabeth and Cordelia.
"Seriously!? We miss on day with you and you become a movie star over night?" Elizabeth exclaims.
I laugh lightly, "You are over reacting...tell you what, why don't we have a sleep over this weekend and we can watch the movie together. I still haven't seen it." The girl's nodded in agreement while I went to go check on Haruhi. I was surprised to see Renge clutching on to her while leading her away, as the passed me Renge called back with a smile.
"Vanessa-sama! You are welcome to come along!"
I laughed, "I'll catch up just give me a moment..." I walked over to Kyoya and the twins as they talked about if what just happened was okay, "Boys did you really forget what happened yesterday? I think Kyoya is going to be just fine, especially since he has a date tonight." Kyoya smirked slightly and nodded while Tamaki continued to rant.
"What are you so worked up over? You are the one that wanted Haruhi to have a female friend in the first place," Kyoya stated with a smile.
"Yeah a female companion, not a girlfriend!" Tamaki shouted back, I laughed as I followed after the two girls. It really is never dull around the host club, I'm glad I get to be a part of it...
Hey guys! This was the one you guys wanted me to update first so here it is, I hope it was worth the wait!
