Chapter 23

The drive was silent.

Jungkook had stumbled on his way to the car while you waited inside, patiently. He also had to get over the chills Rihanna's glare gave him.

He'd have known who she was even if you hadn't told him. No one hates your ex more than your best friend.

You turned the steering wheel with ease, not really thinking of anything, though Jungkook was staring at you the whole time from the passenger's side.

You still drove the same speed.

"I searched for you," he spoke, unsure if you were willing to hear him. "After you left."

"I know," you replied inexpressively. "You and Jiwoo weren't exactly subtle."

Jungkook looked down at his lap, trying hard to keep in his tears.

Five minutes passed as you raced through the empty roads.

You heard his sniffles that gradually turned into muffled sobs.

You said nothing.

By the time you stopped in your desired spot, you removed your seat belt and so did he, with swollen eyes and tear stained cheeks.

"Get down," you said and he did, along with you.

Jungkook felt the cold air hit him and he slightly had second thoughts about having left the blanket behind in the car near the warehouse.

It was when you called him that all his insides came back to life again that he literally dropped all that he held.

You stood in front of the car, facing the sky in a tucked in black button up. Gazing at the stars, looking like you were one of them.

He joined you in the cold, withstanding the icy embrace. He wanted to stand by you, anywhere you went.

He knew none of it would make a difference.

"I'm sorry."

"Give it a moment, Jungkook," you interrupted him and he stayed quiet. "We all know how this usually plays out. Let's not make it cliché."

(A/n: *makes it cliché)

Oh you know it will be.

You found a comfortable spot on the hood of your car again, and patted the place beside you, signaling him to sit.

Jungkook hesitated, meekly taking a few steps before leaning beside you.

He looked as you silently watched the starry sky, the view of the city lights.

He stayed that way for a while and averted his eyes to the scene in front of him.

"It's beautiful," he observed silently.

You gave a small hum in response. "Could've been a beautiful place for me to die."

"Don't-"

"Shut up," you said monotonously, staring from the cliff.

"Yes," he whispered, looking at the ground. "I missed you."

He captured this moment forever in his heart.

It was worth all these years, for this time he gets to stay beside you.

"Eomma and appa have stopped talking with me," Jungkook started. You noticed his voice crack a little at the end. "I-I told them what I did and t-they-"

Another sob broke out and you turned your head to look at him.

"I know, I deserve all this," you felt the fresh wave of tears about to hit him. "For what I d-did, I let you down-"

"You didn't let me down, Jungkook," you cut him off with an ironic smile. "You just dropped me. You ruined me in every way you could."

Your posture straightened as you suddenly felt a pair of arms wrap around you.

Jungkook's head was right against the untreated cut on your neck.

But it hurt no more than you did all these years.

You relaxed yourself a bit, letting him cry on your shoulder.

"Banana milk thief, you're wetting my shirt," you said as a matter of fact and he shook his head.

"I'm sorry," he sobbed into your shoulder. You held him, bringing one of your hands up to caress his hair. "F-For everything. Please forgive me."

You felt tears build up in your eyes. Your throat felt heavy and your breath became shaky.

"Forgive you, Jungkook," you mumbled as he held your shoulder and cried.

"For what, Jungkook?" Your hand shook as you ran your fingers through his hair. "For hitting me? For the night you raped me, for treating me like shit? For what?"

The more you spoke, the tighter he held you, crying in your arms.

Like a drowning person clinging on to his last lungful of air.

"I want to be better, Y/n," he choked out. "I want to be with you."

He pulled his head back, his face strained at the thought of losing you again.

"I can't live without you, jagi. I love you," he said, holding your shoulders, his words shaky as he looked around frantically.

The way he felt without you for three years, flashed in front of his eyes.

He knew you were his only purpose in life.

"You don't treat the people you love like that, Jungkook," your voice low as you looked him in the eye. Yet your words were firm.

He could only burst out in tears once more, apologize over and over again.

Jungkook hugged you, in hopes that your arms would comfort him. They never did.

"Don't hurt yourself, Kookie," you said softly. "It's not the answer to put yourself in pain."

He had no clue how you knew, then he remembered who you were now and nodded his head. "I won't."

His voice was a whisper between his sobs.

"But forgiving you and coming back is different, Jungkook," one of your arms wrapped around his shoulder. "Coming back to you would mean what you did was okay. It's not."

Jungkook held your cheek, desperately searching for a small fleck of affection in your eyes. "Are we not meant to be, my love?"

You smiled. "We should've never met, Jungkook." You should've never seen each other. Your paths should've never crossed.

His forehead rested against yours. He still held your cheek while his other hand rested on your waist.

"There's no time for tears, sweetheart." You moved your hand to cup the side of his face. "Our love story never began."

"Never?" He questioned softly. It was his turn to smile.

"We were fated to be separated, Jungkook."

The tears stopped. No more words. Now he was willing to shed blood for you.

He made no sounds. His face displayed no shock. It's almost as if he saw this coming.

Jungkook was barreling towards his inevitable fate.

Another deep breath, and he looked at you like all the things soft and bright were buried within you.

"Anything for you, love," he spoke with difficulty as you pierced a knife into his chest. He had seen the preview.

This was a different one. It was a knife you knew would be only for Jungkook. You decided and brandished it the day you pulled the trigger for the first time.

You stabbed him in the heart. He was ready to give you what was yours. His heart belonged to you even when you left him.

Jungkook's grip on your hand began to fade reluctantly, leaving a darkness in your mind that knew nothing.

He fell to the ground, kneeling, and you slowed, halted, and became aware that something had happened. And you had done it.

You stood with your back facing the edge of the cliff, looking at him, waiting for realization.

He gazed up at you, smiling again, despite the blood that covered his hand as he held his chest, his eyes speaking a million thoughts but all of it was you. Then he dropped to his side.

Your rapid breathing slowed, slowed, caught suddenly as if on a thorn-

And suddenly vented itself in one wailing, pained scream.

You walked to the cliff with Jungkook that night, and he never walked back.
