Chapter 20

It was still dark by the time you stepped in front of the building.

One could immediately recognize the musty smell that thrived in the poorly lit surroundings.

Or it could be the distinct smell all supermarkets had. A combination of ozone, petrichor, and geosmin.

Ozone, a pungent smell, almost similar to that of chlorine bleach.

Petrichor. A pleasant smell that accompanies the first rain after a long term of dry weather. Like that night all your fates were meant to be changed.

The letters Jeon Industries were splattered across the huge wall in block metal signs.

A similar building in South Korea had brought you all to this point.

"She's in there," you said, to yourself rather than to anyone, exhaling and looking in front of you through the cold night. "It ends here."

Rihanna stood beside you, not saying anything.

You wanted to do this for yourself. And you didn't want anyone else involved in this anymore.

You believe all that ever happened in your life was to bring you to this moment. Like a cluster of strings you didn't know would be connected to another, and then another.

"The property is secured, our men are ready to fire anytime you want. From the top of a few buildings around," she informed. "We got thermal readings. No one else in the warehouse. Just Ara and him."

You acknowledged her with a small nod, walking further away from your car, and inside through the security gates that were left open.

This was one shitty kidnapping.

And you were just walking in, with half a backup, and quarter emotional presence. The rest, the want to know what the hell was going to happen.

"I swear this is the most cliché ending to stories," you could hear Riri say from where she was standing behind you and rolled your eyes just a little. Had to save the rest for Ara's speech if she had one.

You went in the right direction with ease, having seen the blueprint of the place before you arrived.

The sound of your platform boots, with small GG studs on them that stood out despite the lighting, prominent against the polished, epoxy coated floor.

It could be heard from a mile away, taking the silence into account.

You felt like you were back to playing hide-and-seek at this point. 2,782 pillars and he'd be bound to one.

"Enough of this, Ara," you called out loudly and heard your voice reverberate, still continuing to walk around. "If you had executed your plan before I was asked to marry Jungkook, I wouldn't have had to deal with repeated abductions. It's so annoying."

You emphasized a little on the 'so annoying,' to express exactly how you felt coming here on just cold coffee in the night.

"Tell me you don't love this life, Y/n." You could hear her. Loud, and near. "Isn't it cool? Walking around with a story for revenge, with blood money, guns, another cool partner and that damned black trench coat."

"Custom," you added, tracing your initials in silver patterns on the end of the left sleeve.

"So you're Jungkook's mother now? I only wanted to see her." The voice was closer this time and you kept walking. "I planned on starving him until she got here and when she was in front of him, I'd put a bullet in his eye."

"Takes an awful lot of time, sweetie," you said, nonchalantly looking around to the wooden boxes piled on top of each other, racked up and all across to form a maze. "Plus, you can never be sure about the weather. Not even with private jets and a son held hostage."

You took a swift turn to the right and stopped on your tracks.

All you had ever wanted to say once you came to this moment, out the warehouse's ventilation because you hadn't seen any windows so far.

You struggled for words and took a sharp breath, resuming your steps.

He was here. In front of you.

As you expected, bound to a pillar with chains (she was probably planning this part for years, if you'd look at the rusted condition of them).

He had been a spectator, not exactly, of your conversation with her, and had nothing to say in between.

His mind was still processing all that had been revealed to him, and the fact that it was actually your voice he was hearing.

Jungkook felt paralyzed.

All he ever wanted in his life again was you and now, indeed, you were here, walking towards him.

He had waited years for this moment. Except his eyes threatened to tear up, and his breathing became uneven.

From the sedation or the sight of you. He could clearly tell it was the latter.

If he was to die tonight, at least he knew it would be in your arms.
