Nightmare 29: Relief

Recap:

Blair placed her hand on her hips, the other holding the metal blade. It had red drip, drip, dripping off of the tip, slowly falling to the ground. The puddle below wasn't great in size, but it held more sin than you could even imagine.

You glanced up at Jeff who stood wounded and dirtied.

"You're gonna fucking pay!" he cried.

You stared at the monster he had suddenly become.

He dashed in the direction of the antagonist and ran straight into her heel. She started to swing her knife around, but Jeff was too quick. Before she knew it, he forced the blade out of her hand and stood behind her. As she turned around, all that was left was a bottomless shadow.

How did he know how to do that?

Blair had the most fearful, blood-spinning, staggered appearance. She was at a complete loss for words when she realized that the killer Jeff used to be was making its emergence. An arrival under the spotlight was what it wished for, and that's the only thing it seemed to receive.

"We all die one day!" Jeff yelled. "Just accept it!"

The girl started to shake and quivered as if the most horrified thing had crossed her mind. She gripped her fist tighter, but was unable to move her arm.

"N-No!" she cried. "I can't die!"

You were taken aback by her change in attitude. Perhaps even the best of moods can be overridden by the provoking thoughts of fear.

"Death is painful! I can't go through that!" Blair declared, trembling all the while. "I refuse to die!"

"You treat death like it's a present! You go around giving it to others," Jeff said. "So why can't you take it yourself?!"

Blair completely dropped to the ground and wrinkled her petty, white dress. Her eyes started to sag and droop as her hair covered them.

"I guess I... I don't wanna die," she muttered, gazing up at Jeff.

"That's a stupid-"

"I don't wanna end up like my sister!" she whined. "I want other people to know how I felt when she was betrayed!"

If only she knew how close her sister really was.

She stared back down at the ground as Jeff inched towards her with gratitude. He kneeled down like a knight in shining armor and placed his empty hand on her shoulder, almost soothing her and setting her up for tragedy. Unable to see his eyes, you set your gaze on the back of his neck, and even that had been overcome by the sins of the past.

"It's okay," Jeff mumbled. "I get it."

"But I tried to-"

"Death is a beautiful thing."

Your jaw almost dropped as you witnessed his next action. The complete psychosity of his movements contradicted with his meaningless words.

The knife that was impaled into Blair's stomach was laced with deception and duplicity. Traitorismatic vibes ran through the handle and cascaded into the cold, carbon metal. The girl let out small sounds of gasping and gurgling as the red string burned away and left behind the taste of smoke. Neophobia seemed to be the cause of her downfall, but you knew that it was bound to happen in the end.

And with her eyes stationed on the darkness of the woods, she chose her last words carefully, not even taking a second to debate how betrayed she felt at that moment. She probably believed that you were going to help her. Maybe she even changed her mind. Either way, she was a goner, and she realized this as she wheezed, "You lied."

Correct... Rest in peace.

Jeff yanked the blade out of her stomach and let her back hit the dirt. He hunched over the roadkill like some sort of animal and started to stab it over and over, massacring it.

"All you do is cause problems!" he yelled as he slammed the metal back down. "You're a disgrace to your sister and you always will be!"

He pulled the knife back out, letting another quiet, painful screech exit Blair's body.

"You couldn't even kill a fly!" he exclaimed as he sent it flying to the ground again.

You didn't know what to do.

Without thinking, you took the rock from your side and threw it at Jeff. It soared through the air and lucky enough, the sharp end hit the back of his neck. He yelped as he fell forwards onto the body that he had so carelessly destroyed. His head hit the ground and he was out like a light.

Shakily standing up, you snaked over to the two vessels and examined what had happened. Blair was definitely dead and most of the blood had already found its way onto Jeff's jacket and face.

You moved his shoulder slightly to see if he was awake. He only needed to cool down, so you didn't regret knocking him out.

You watched his eyes snap open and try to figure out what was going on. He used his arms to lift up his torso as he looked at the ground below him. Glancing at the dead body that was only a foot away from his eyes, he started to freak out. His arms flew to his sides as he flew backwards and crawled away from the scene.

"What is that?!" he screamed. "What the fuck happened?!"

You rushed to his side and blocked his view of the corpse.

"You killed her," you said.

"I did what?!" he questioned.

You muttered, "You started to say crazy things and then you killed her."

"Please tell me it was in self-defense," he said.

You shook your head as you mumbled, "Not exactly."

Jeff started to violently sway as his eyes kept drifting beyond your head. He was so enticed by the thing lying behind you that he couldn't stop thinking about his forgotten actions.

"This can't be real," he declared. "I don't remember it!"

"Do you remember trying to kill me?" you asked.

He went silent and stared into your eyes as his mouth curled into a sympathetic frown that was slowly growing with an extraordinary amount of distress. His pupils started to get wider while the black curtains rolled away, exposing him and his subconscious intent.

"No," he said. "Did I really-?"

"Yeah," you replied. "You tried to push me off the cliff."

The boy who cried wolf was getting closer to the woods and you didn't know how much longer it would be until the darkness sucked him and his innocence inside.

"I... I didn't really want to kill you, did I?" he asked.

"You wanted to kill me, Jeff."
