Chapter Twenty

~Willow's POV~

Jack wandered around in the darkness for most of the night and acted suspiciously but didn't do anything that was cause for immediate alarm and when he had returned to the barn where he was staying in the loft, Undertaker and I retired for the evening. He snuck me back into my room through my window and wished me goodnight before disappearing.

The next morning, I woke to a commotion outside of my door and scrambled to see what was going on. Hurriedly I wrenched open the door to my bedroom and stared in awe at the scene before me. Ciel was crouched on the ground outside of my bedroom with his arms over his head. Sebastian was standing awkwardly over him while struggling to grip a strange spear like weapon that looked as if it had been aimed for his face. On the other end of the strange spear like weapon was one of the newcomers with glasses. The angel of death said his name was William.

I reached down and pulled Ciel into my room before closing the door shut after shooting a quick glare to the demon and the Shinigami. Once Ciel was on his feet I made quick work of dusting him off and looking him over for injury.

Ciel sighed, "I'm fine, Willow."

I returned to the door and pulled it open once more only to dive out of the way as the spear like weapon went flying toward my face.

"Willow!" Ciel panicked as I hit the floor.

"We can't let a wraith walk around freely." The cool man with the dark hair and glasses noted tonelessly as he aimed another attack at me.

"She's not a wraith." Sebastian and Ciel growled simultaneously.

Sebastian blocked the Shinigami's path, planting himself firmly in front of me. "I don't mind if you hinder me, reaper, but please do refrain from causing this girl any harm."

My heart fluttered at his words. Why was the demon being nice to me? Where was the angel of death? It was strange he hadn't come rushing to my aid yet. He did seem to want to keep his distance from the other Shinigami, perhaps that was it.

"If she's not a wraith what is she?" The prim proper man asked as he lowered his weapon.

Ciel and Sebastian exchanged looks.

"It doesn't matter." Ciel answered smoothly, "She's here to help, so I suggest you stop attacking her."

"Very well." The cool collected reaper agreed.

"Oh, everyone's so lively in the morning." Hildi's voice sounded from the end of the hall and everyone immediately straightened up. "Breakfast is ready downstairs." She smiled warmly.

The men all mumbled polite responses and everyone dispersed save for Ciel. Ciel offered me his hand and helped me to my feet. "Why don't you get dressed and meet us downstairs." He noted and offered Hildi a polite "Thank you" before making his way downstairs.

I offered Hildi a polite half curtsy before excusing myself and closing the door to my room before turning to the trunk to find something to wear. As I reached for the trunk, a strong familiar hand reached out and caught my wrist lightly. A small smile danced across my lips as I was gingerly spun about to face the angel of death.

His otherworldly eyes scanned me over, searching for injury. "Are you alright, little bird?"

I nodded and smiled again as he lightly smoothed his finger over the inside of my wrist in an affectionate manner

"Do you need help?" He indicated the trunk filled with all the unfamiliar frills and gowns.

I shrugged and returned to the trunk to look for a simple gown. Apparently, whoever Ciel had pick out my attire wasn't a fan of simplicity. Every gown within the trunk was complicated and had many buttons and lacings. They were all in an array of dark colors from royal blue, azure, crimson, emerald and ebony. I settled on an azure gown with a lace top that buttoned all the way up the back.

Undertaker helped me into the gown and I felt a delightful shiver run down my spine as he took his time with the buttons on the back gently brushing his hands across my bare back sending sensual quivers throughout my entire body.

"I'm going to be keeping my distance for a little while. It's best if the other Shinigami don't discover me." He noted as he finished buttoning my gown and took a step toward the window.

I cleared the space between us in a few hurried steps and before I knew what had come over me, I threw my arms around him and pressed my lips to his. His strong arms encircled me holding me tightly against his taut body and urging a sigh from my lips. He kissed me back with a fire. Unlike our first kiss that had been sweet, this one was fiery and passionate and made my head swim.

We parted breathlessly and I quickly took a step away and buried my face in my long ebony hair. Undertaker chuckled. "You should get going." He smiled before disappearing out my window.

I slipped on a pair of shoes and raced down the stairs to join the others in the dining room. Just as I reached the bottom, a large figure with a stag's head came barreling out of a set of staff doors. If I had a voice to scream I was sure it would have broken eardrums as I fell backward onto the stairs to avoid the bloody stag's head, my mouth frozen in a silent scream. The stags head swiveled about revealing the man carrying it, the groundskeeper, Jack.

He gave me an apologetic smile, "Apologies, my lady."

I closed my mouth and shakily got to my feet.

"You really are mute." He noted almost to himself before offering me a wry smile, "Not that I was testing you or anything. Hildi had mentioned it."

My gaze lingered to his torso to his blood-stained shirt. It looked as if this wasn't the first blood stain of the day on his shirt. There were some splotches of smeared dried blood, blood that looked as if it had been attempted to be scrubbed away. Why would someone need to hide the blood of the game they'd killed?

"My lady?" Jack took a step closer to me his bright blue eyes filled with concern. "Are you alright?"

I nodded quickly mentally scolding myself for my lack of tact. He must have been talking to me and I was lost in deciphering the blood stains on his shirt.

"Sorry for startling you." He bowed awkwardly beneath the stag's weight before disappearing outside.

I made my way to the dining room nonchalantly massaging my spine from where it had connected painfully with the stairs during my tumble.

"There you are, Willow. We were starting to worry." Ciel noted his single revealed azure eye immediately flitting to my hands rubbing my back. "Did something happen?"

I waved his question away and did my best at appearing like I was okay as I approached their table. The other few tables in the dining room were completely empty save for Ciel, his demon butler and the other Shinigami. They were all sitting around the map Ciel had brought with him that had the circle already carefully drawn on it from the disappearance sites. There were more dots within the circle that they must have recently added in charcoal. My heart suddenly skipped a beat as I noticed a pattern within the circle with the new dots.

I shakily picked up the charcoal as the men talked amongst themselves and drew the pattern within the circle.

"What do you think you're doing?" One of the Shinigami, a young man with two toned hair and the same piercing green eyes as the others, asked me curiously drawing everyone's attention to me as I connected the new dots.

Ciel stared in awe at the symbol and unconsciously reached up to cover his already concealed eye. "Sebastian, what is that?" His voice sounded small and fragile.

I looked to the demon and felt my heart drop as I saw the grim look upon his face.

"A summoning circle." Sebastian responded with a grimace.

The three Shinigami looked worried.

"For what?" Ciel asked impatiently.

"Nothing good." The prim proper Shinigami supplied. "We'll have a lot of paperwork after this is over." He noted causing the other two to groan.

I looked down at the demonic symbol I'd sketched onto the map and pointed to one of the newest spots and threw Ciel a questioning look.

"They said it was the location of the bodies." He indicated the Shinigami and I felt all the color drain from my face. Were all of those missing people used to create Polongs? They were taken, killed and disposed of in perfectly plotted out points to make this summoning circle in death and despair, but what exactly were they trying to summon and why?
