Chapter Seven
~Undertaker's POV~
There was a string of violent murders being brought to the attention of the public lately. A real twisted soul was behind it, if it was even human. The victims were torn to shreds as if by some wild animal, ripped apart and organs spilled as they clung to life until their throats were slashed. This wouldn't look good. The demon would suspect a wraith; it seemed like their kind of work. Someone was trying to frame Willow, but why?
Willow resorted to hiding upstairs in her room due to the amount of protestors at my door calling her names and accusing her of the murders.
I worked silently at what was left of my most recent client as night fell over the city and the protestors finally gave it a rest and made their way elsewhere. She moved quiet as death itself, but I could sense her pure presence on the stairwell. I paused at my workstation as I sensed her pure aura heading for the front door.
"Going somewhere, little bird?" I asked quietly as I set aside my tools and turned to face her.
She was a vision in ebony, wearing a simple tight fitted ebony gown with a brilliant titanium silver corset. Her long ebony hair hung around her frail frame in straight silken sheets, but what caught my attention the most, was the look in her fey eyes. They were filled with pain, guilt, and fear. She bit her lip nervously as her uninjured hand reached for the door.
"Willow?"
A single tear slipped from her revealed titanium orb as she wrenched the door open and sprinted off into the night.
"Willow!"
I swore under my breath and bolted after her. Why would she run? Her ebony hair streaked out behind her as she ran as if her life depended on it.
"WILLOW!" I called after her as I sprinted to keep up.
A few glistening tears fell away from her and cascaded to the ground leaving miniscule droplets across the cobblestone street. Two figures stepped out of the alleyway ahead of her one tall and lean, the other short and scrawny, the demon and the Earl.
A swarm of men flooded out of the alleyway behind them blocking her path. They brought the Scotland Yard. Willow stopped as the Earl and his demon approached her.
"What's the meaning of this?" I demanded as I finally caught up to the small gathering of people.
"This girl is under arrest." The Earl said coldly. "For the murder of fourteen innocent people."
Willow shook her head frantically and took a faltering step back.
"How do you plead?" The Earl continued.
"She's innocent." I glared as I reached the trembling girl.
"The criminal has to testify." The Commissioner of the Scotland Yard, Lord Randall, an angry looking man with grey hair and a well kempt grey mustache, barked.
"She's not a criminal!" My glare was trained on the Young Earl and his demon butler.
"Fine, the suspect has to testify." Lord Randall sighed in annoyance, his cold beady eyes scanning over the case file in his hands.
"She's mute." I clenched my fists.
"Very well, take the girl into custody." Lord Randall ordered his subordinates.
Damn! I couldn't do anything without giving myself away. "Go with them, little bird, I'll come for you." I breathed behind the terrified girl.
Her body tensed as two men cautiously advanced toward her. They were already treating her like a criminal. She cringed as they gripped her arms tightly and dragged her toward an awaiting carriage. The Scotland Yard disappeared along with the carriage and I turned my glare, once more, to the demon butler and his master.
"We couldn't have that monstrosity loose in the city." The Earl said coolly.
"You have absolutely no idea what you're talking about!" I hissed, "She's innocent."
"You still believe that, knowing what she is?" The demon pondered.
"I am the only one who knows what she is, master butler." I turned to head back to my shop; I'd be needing some weaponry to break into the prison. "Rest assured, master butler, if you ever threaten her again, I won't hesitate to kill you."
