Chapter Eight

~Willow's POV~

I was dragged into some wicked looking fortress on the outskirts of the city. Tortured agonizing screams echoed from the rooms below. Incessant murmuring, muttering and praying sounded from the pitch black hole like cells we passed along the way as my captors dragged me deeper into the fortress.

This wasn't supposed to happen. I just wanted to run away; I was causing the angel of death so much grief. People threw things through his windows and even the day before someone had broken into his house and attacked him. I was just a burden. I didn't want to cause him any more trouble.

After walking for what seemed like hours, I could no longer hear the screams of the other prisoners. Where were they taking me?

A door opened down the hall and a man in a white lab coat stepped forth, a doctor? He held his hand up to halt our approach before motioning to whoever was in the room to come out. Two men wheeling a gurney with a sheet covered body beneath exited the room. My heart raced in my chest as the faceless victim to whatever torture awaited me next was wheeled away.

What were they going to do to me?

I started to resist as they pulled me toward the room. No! I didn't want to die!

The two men gripping my arms in their vice like grip practically lifted me off my feet and half dragged half carried me into the ominous room. My kicking and flailing did absolutely nothing to hinder them. Inside the room was a single haunting looking table with a slew of restraints, but what concerned me more was the familiar machine beside it. Shocks. They were going to torture me with electroshocks until I gave them what they wanted or died.

My stomach turned. I couldn't speak. No matter what I tried, I couldn't speak. I was going to die here.

My captors carried me to the table and I tried in vain to escape them. I somehow managed to kick one in the shin hard enough for him to gasp in pain and release my arm from his grip. Adrenaline coursed through my veins as I spun with my fist clenched and swung at my other captor. He caught my wrist in his free hand and kneed me in the stomach with enough force that I instantly doubled over and coughed up a small amount of blood.

"This one's a fighter." The man in the lab coat chuckled as he closed the door behind him.

One of my captors lifted me off the floor and dropped me on the table. That strange slow motion feeling washed over me as he leaned over me to secure my restraints. I spotted a wire connected to one of the electroshock probes lying carelessly nearby and gripped it tightly in my hands before launching myself onto the unsuspecting man's back. His body was still moving too slowly to react as I wound the wire around his neck and pulled the wound wires in opposite directions causing them to burrow into his flesh.

The man's scream cut off in his throat as I tightened the wire. As time returned to normal, something hard hit me over the back of the head with enough force to turn my vision instantly black and cause me to fall back to the table. I heard someone rush to the man's aid as the man in the lab coat darted forward and secured me to the table. My vision returned after a moment, blurred and distorted at first as the man in the lab coat smiled down at me evilly.

"I hope you'll be more fun than the last bloke." He grinned.

I fought against my restraints to no avail as he approached me with a set of probes. No! Not again! I couldn't do this again! He secured two to my temples and gagged me with a thick cloth tying it securely behind my head to keep it from moving. I winced as it painfully dug into the corners of my mouth.

The man in the lab coat turned to his switchboard. Please, anything but this. Tears welled in my eyes. I fought them back furiously, I couldn't cry, I couldn't show these monsters an ounce of weakness, or it would all be over.

He threw the switch and the pain was blinding. It lasted for what felt like an eternity, though it was probably only thirty seconds and left me panting and gasping for air and a damp film of sweat coating my skin.

"Not a peep!" The man in the lab coat was beside himself with joy, "You'll be a fun one." He grinned.

I fought to control my breathing as my head continued to throb from the after effects. No more! Please!

"Let's try a higher dosage." The maniacal man cackled gleefully and turned a knob on his wicked machine.

'Stop.' I begged silently as his hand inched toward the switch.

He threw the switch once more, and this time I felt as if my body were being bathed in acid, as if my flesh were melting right off the bone. I tried to scream, to call for help, but no sound escaped me. This one seemed to last longer and even after it was over my body continued to convulse for a few seconds after.

The metallic taste of blood lingered in my mouth and as I slowly regained feeling in my body and limbs I felt the slow trickle of blood from the corner of my mouth from the gag digging into my skin.

"You'll be my favorite play thing." The man in the lab coat laughed as he turned the knob up a little further.

'Help.' An image of the angel of death flitted across my mind as more tears welled in my eyes. I refused to let them fall.

The man in the lab coat threw the switch once more and my vision turned blood red as I felt as if my skull were exploding. It was beyond agony, beyond torment, and even beyond hell. At some point I couldn't tell if he'd turned it off or if it were going to go on for eternity.

"WILLOW!"

I heard a loud crash followed by the sound of a massive electrical surge and an immense explosion. The sound of the machine had stopped but the pain still lingered. My eyes slowly began to focus and I found myself staring into the alluring eyes of the angel of death.

"Willow?" he smoothed his hands through my hair trying to get me to look up at him to assess my state of mind. "Can you hear me?"

I blinked up at him blankly as he reached behind my head to remove the barbaric gag from my mouth. It stung as it was pulled away from the corners of my mouth and the metallic taste of blood once again lingered in my mouth.

"Willow?" His voice sounded far away and broken.

He made quick work of my restraints, but hesitated to move me.

"I'm sorry." He pressed his hands to my face once more gently wiping the blood from the corners of my mouth.

I reached up slowly, was this real? Was he really here? Or had I finally succumbed to death? I watched as my hand slowly made contact with his face. It was warm. He felt so warm, so full of life.

His alluring eyes held my gaze captive. "Willow." He smiled softly as he caught my hand in one of his and pressed it to his lips. "Let's get you home."

Home?

Tears welled in my eyes once more and this time, no matter how hard I tried, I could not hold them back. They spilled down my cheeks stinging as a few came into contact with the fresh cuts at the corners of my mouth. I threw my arms around his neck and cried silently against him as he lifted me off the table and into his strong embrace.

"I'll kill anyone who dares try to harm you." He whispered darkly as he carried me toward the wicked machine.

I stared in awe at the gory scene before me. The man in the lab coat was pinned to his beloved machine with a long wicked curved blade piercing straight through his skull impaling him to the now smoking machine. It was a scythe with bone casing and a warped looking skeleton along the hilt, its mouth ajar as if screaming in agony, it was agonizing death.

The angel of death balanced me with one arm as he reached out and grasped the hilt of the blade. He gave a sudden uplifting jerk and with a sickening squish of flesh the blade came free splitting the man's skull in half spilling torn brain matter from the gaping wound as his cold eyes stared blankly back at me the twisted smile still frozen on his lips.

I shivered in the angel of death's arms and buried my face in his chest. How many people did he slaughter to reach me?
