I extend my arm out the window of the car. The wind whips through the material of the hoodie I'm wearing. The sun shines down counteracting the cold with its warmth.

How did we get here?
All castaway on a lonely shore
I can see in your eyes, dear
It's hard to take for a moment more
We've got to

Tyrone left early Sunday morning to go to college. We didn't go to church, but after he left I decided to go to the coffee shop. I watched Christian youtubers and drank coffee. I know it isn't the same as going to church, but I needed to start somewhere.

Burn the ships, cut the ties
Send a flare into the night
Say a prayer, turn the tide
Dry your tears and wave goodbye

Ty called me that night and told me about his roommate. His roommate is also one of his teammates. I have a bad feeling about him. I'm not sure why, but I just have a feeling. I didn't tell Ty because I could be wrong and I don't want to cause a riff between the two of them.

Step into a new day
We can rise up from the dust and walk away
We can dance upon our heartache, yeah
So light a match, leave the past, burn the ships
And don't you look back

It's been a week since Ty left and my brother came down for a couple of days, but had to leave for college again. Ty has been pretty busy with basketball practice. He has only called me a few times.

Don't let it arrest you
This fear is fear of fallin' again
And if you need a refuge
I will be right here until the end
Oh, it's time to

I continue driving. I'm not sure where I'm going, but I just keep driving. I stop at a stop light and notice an oddly familiar black Mustang beside me. I glance over and I make eye contact with Blaze. He rolls the passenger window down.

"Hey, sweetheart," he smirks.

"Blaze." I roll my eyes, but I'm smiling.

"Where are you headed?" He leans closer to the passenger side of the car.

I shrug. "Where are you going?"

"Pizza. Want to come?"

"Sure."

"Follow me," he smirks and rolls his window back up.

I nod. It doesn't hit me what I just agreed to until we arrive at the Pizza place. I agreed to eat with Blaze. Ty's "rival". Ty is miles away. To others it looks like I'm going on a date. Crap. It isn't a big deal though. We are just going out to eat as friends. Besides Ty hasn't called me cause he's always practicing or hanging out with his friends. Blaze is my friend so I should be able to hang out with him. I really need female friends.

Burn the ships, cut the ties
Send a flare into the night
Say a prayer, turn the tide
Dry your tears and wave goodbye

I step out of my mom's car and push my sunglasses on top of my head. Blaze gets out of his gorgeous car and I notice he is taller than the last time I talked to him. I have to tilt my head up to make eye contact with him.

Step into a new day
We can rise up from the dust and walk away
We can dance upon our heartache, yeah
So light a match, leave the past, burn the ships
And don't you look back

"You're tall."

Blaze chuckles. "Hello to you too, shortie."

I roll my eyes and we begin to walk to the entrance of the pizza place. Blaze holds the door open for me and I place the back of my hand on his forehead.

"What are you doing?" He questions.

I drop my hand."Checking to see if you have a fever. Players aren't polite and don't have manners."

I walk inside and I think i see him flinch slightly, but I could be imagining it.

So long to shame, walk through the sorrow
Out of the fire into tomorrow
So flush the pills, face the fear
Feel the wave disappear
We're comin' clear, we're born again
Our hopeful lungs can breathe again
Oh, we can breathe again

Blaze orders us a pizza to share and we split the bill between us. We catch each other up on our lives. We find out that we are going to the same college. He tells me he straightened himself out and I don't ask any further questions even though I want to. I tell him about Ty and I getting together and how he's started acting weird.

Step into a new day
We can rise up from the dust and walk away
We can dance upon our heartache, yeah
So light a match, leave the past, burn the ships
And step into a new day
We can rise up from the dust and walk away
We can dance upon our heartache, yeah
So light a match, leave the past, burn the ships
And don't you look back

"I'm going to tell you something and you don't have to agree with me. You can walk out of here and never talk to me again, but Tyrone is making a mistake. He's putting more effort into basketball, his buddies, and college. It's going to get worse and I hope you realize that before you get your heart broken."

And don't you look back
And don't you look back
