"Oh, come on, Harper!" Lee exclaims and I have to pull my phone slightly away from my ear.
Lee is my Asian friend who works at a coffee shop. He makes awesome coffee by the way. He is a sophomore in college, but somehow likes talking to me. He is twenty-one years old and claims me as his little sister. He is also friends with my older brother.
"I have homework, Lee!"
He scuffs. "Bring your laptop and use the Wi-Fi here. Then you can socialize, drink my coffee, and use free Wi-Fi." I sigh and I can tell he is smiling. "I'll see you in twenty." I glance at my phone and see he has hung up on me. I roll my eyes and find something to wear.
I quickly change into a grey sweater and light jeans. I brush my teeth and throw my hair into a ponytail without brushing it. I swipe some deodorant on and grab a bag to put my laptop in.
My phone starts ringing while I have half of one sock on. I glance at who is calling me and smile. I swipe the answer button and put it on speaker. "Hello," I greet.
"Hey, what are you doing?"
"I am putting on socks," I laugh. "What are you doing?"
"I am craving coffee." He states and I hear his favorite radio station playing in the back ground.
"Are you already at the shop?" I question and sling my bag over my shoulder.
"Yeah, I just pulled in."
"I just have to put on my shoes and then I will be on my way."
"Alright, sounds good."
"See you in a minute, Ty."
Ty is my black best friend. His real name is Tyrone, but I call him Ty most of the time. He is eighteen and a senior in high school just like me. He is kind of serious, but he has his funny moments. He is really sweet too. He is my best guy friend.
After a music filled car ride to the coffee shop, I head into the shop and sit beside Ty. I set my laptop out in front of me.
"Would you like to try our new Chai tea frappe, little sister?"
I make a face and pretend to gag. "No. I don't." I stare at him and he bursts out laughing. "I want my usual mocha Frappuccino, please and thank you."
"Don't mess with her coffee, Lee," Ty smiles. "She will beat you up."
"Tell him, Ty." I say and pull up Google on my laptop.
"What homework do you have to do?" Ty asks.
"I have to read Crime and Punishment, but really I am using Spark Notes."
Ty chuckles. "You are starting to sound like me."
I smile and laugh. "So, are you a good or bad influence on me?"
He shrugs with a smile on his face as he drinks his plain black coffee.
"Here is your Frappuccino, Princess. Is there anything else I can get you?"
"Yeah, a B in English," I giggle.
"Sorry, that's not on the menu."
An hour and a half passes by and I get a good amount of work done considering the two goof balls around me.
"Hey, look! It is snowing outside," Lee declares.
I glance outside and see that what he says is true. I log out and turn off my laptop. I glance at my phone and see that I have two text messages from my brother.
"Crap," I mutter and open up the messages.
Come home dont make me call u
Sis its snowing get your butt home
I roll my eyes and stand up. I put my laptop in my bag and sling in the bag on my shoulder. "Well, I got to go before Reed throws a fit," I chuckle.
Reed is my older brother and is twenty years old. He is a sophomore in college and plays basketball. He is a giant... literally... or maybe it is just me. He is a little bit protective over me, but not so much that I constantly want to smack some sense into him. He and I are super close. I was really glad when he chose a college only a couple hours from home. We Skype when he is at college and I'm home. I've thought about going to the same college of him just so I am close to family. He decided to come home this weekend, so that's why he is texting me.
"See you later, gator." Lee waves and goes back to work.
"I got to go too," Ty says and we walk out of the shop together. "Drive safe, okay?"
I nod. "You too, text me when you get home."
He smiles. "Always."
I smile and wave as we part ways. I gently toss my bag in the backseat and call my brother.
"Hello?"
"What up, bro?"
"Dad will be home anytime and you know he won't want you on the roads. So step on it, but be safe."
"I am," I sigh. "Love you." I pause and hear nothing. I glance at the screen. How rude, he hung up on me.
I turn up the radio and head home.
