Six ran. Her feet pounding against the wooden floor of the hallway. Guilt and worry crashed into her like a wave. How could I just leave him? Screeching to a halt, tears found their way down her face. Anything could be happening to him. Using her yellow raincoats sleeve, she wiped away the few stray tears. Six looked over her shoulder, staring back into the darkness where she came. I have to go back. For him.
Taking a step forward she felt herself start to fall. Six squeaked as she fell into a sea of darkness. Wind howled in her ear as she fell, her raincoat flapping. A bright light shone at the bottom of the pit. A glass force field dividing her from the bright light. Six shut her eyes, bracing for impact.
Smash. Six winced, her body landing on cement. Her leg burned, pain throbbing like a heartbeat. Slightly opening her eyes, Six felt her heart dance. Next to her lay Mono. His eyes where closed, his breathing calm. Six sighed, sitting up. Shattered glass surrounded the two. Six peered behind her to see a television with smashed glass, wires buzzing with electricity. Are we back in the real world?
Mono grunted, making Six swing her head in his direction. Mono pushed himself onto his knees, his hand holding his head. “Are you… okay?” He glanced over to Six, nodding. Slowly he stood up, his legs wobbling. Six smiled, glad that Mono was alright before standing for herself. Six yelped as she put pressure on her bad leg. Mono looked at her before looking away, ignoring her. Odd. Six lifted her leg up, limping over to Mono.
Once she reached Mono, she gasped. A bright purple light glowed through a giant doorway illuminating the streets. The tall slim building of the signal tower loomed over them. Its body the only one not twisted compared to the buildings surrounding it.
Mono was glowing under the purple light. His eyes reflecting the light. His features became highlighted purple. Six felt herself relax upon seeing Mono. Seeing his perfect face and body.
“We’re here.” Mono whispered, his voice oddly monotone. Worry started to settle in Six’s stomach. Six fiddled with her hands, her eyes on the floor. Is he mad at me? I didn’t want to run away, he just scared me. Six opened her mouth to speak but was interrupted by Mono. “Six?” Six stared at Mono, listening.
Mono turned his head, his eyes meeting hers. “Do you love me?” Six was taken aback. Her heart danced, her breath quickened. Did she love him? She didn’t know. She never felt this for anybody before. It was all new to her. Six wasn’t even sure what love is.
“I-” Mono shook his head, cutting off their eyes contact. “SIX I LOVE YOU! Can’t you see that!” He yelled. Tears freely fell from his face. Six froze, her body tensing. She was confused. Lost in what to say. Six lifted her arms up, hugging herself. She felt herself shake, “I… Don’t know… What I… feel.”
Mono balled his hands into fists. His brown eyes flashing red. Six backed away a little as Mono growled. “Have you no heart!” Six’s heart broke upon those words. Her mind started to spread toxic thoughts. NO! I won’t listen!
“You betrayed me! YOU FOOLED ME!” Mono spat. His eyes were slits, digging into Six’s skin. Six lowered her head, her hair falling in front of her face. Her eyes wandered the floor, Mono’s words poisoning her. “I know who you are Six! A stupid selfish beast.” Six crumbed to her knees, scrunching herself into a ball with her head on the floor. No. I’m sorry!
Two feet stand in front of Six. His eyes red, burning into Six. She whimpered, afraid of Mono. He brought her out of her toxic life and is now dumping her back in. Mono bent down, his arms resting on his knees. “You’re nothing Six.” Six whimpered, cowering away. Mono fiercely grabbed her chin, forcing her head up. His usual soft hands felt like claws, digging into her skin drawing blood. “You are pathetic and worthless. You’re just a heartless monster.” Six gritted her teeth, her eyes puffy. Mono yanked his hand away, allowing Six to shrink away as blood dripped from her cheek. Standing Mono turned away from her and the tower.
“And I don’t love you anymore. I wish I never met you. I should have left you die.” Mono walked away into the dark streets, His figure disappearing into the shadows. Six sobbed, her hands pulling on her hair.
The clouds cried along with Six, soaking the tar streets. “Don’t go. I can’t… lose you too. Mono…” Six cried, knowing it was too late. Her arms hugged her, trying to warm her cold body. Shivering in the streets, Six was alone. She was abandoned… forgotten… hated. Sobbing, Six looked up to the grey sky.
The grey clouds reminded her of when Mono gave her a flower in the pouring rain. Six looked down from the sky, her eyes landing on a pile of trash, remembering when Mono made her that leg brace. Shaking her head Six stared at a building, her mind flashing back to when Mono saved her from the pile of rubble. Stop it! Six stared at the streets, her memories bringing her to the time of her and Mono first meeting in the wet swaps of the hunter.
“Mono…” she whispered. Six closed her eyes, letting the cool rain hit her limp body. Blood trickled from her check where Mono scratched her. Cautiously she put her hand on the scratch, flinching from the sharp pain. Useless, worthless, nothing. He hates you.
Slightly opening her eyes, Six stared at Mono’s coat that was wrapped around her wound. “But I love him.” Six felt her mind relax, her heart aching with the feeling. She looked over to where Mono walked away. “I love you.” Her voice cracked, weak and tired.
A loud static noise echoed through the streets. Six felt her heart jump. Weakly, Six rolled over to face the broken television. Somehow the television was alive, flashing black and white. Mono?
Fear clouded Six’s eyes as a slim figure glitched on the screen. A thin form reached for the screen. Grey, skeleton like hands glitched out of the T.V. A long, slim body following after. The Thin Man. Six wanted to run, she wanted to get away but couldn’t. Her body was weak and tired. Mono’s words drained her of power, as if he stole it all.
The Thin Man teleported closer to Six’s small form. He clicked his tongue, commenting “Poor thing. Seems you little friend doesn’t feel the same. Young love is so overrated anyways little girl.” Six found the energy to shake her head, glaring at the Thin Man. “How cute. Defending your feelings for Mono. Its delicious.” Six growled. “No need to growl. It’s so inhumane.” Six kept her sharp gaze on the Thin man as he folded his arms. Placing his chin on his hand he started to ponder. “
Now what to do with you. Killing you is way too boring. Using you as a slave is way to cliché. I am classier that trapping you in the endless hallways of the tower… or am I?” The Thin Man knelt down, his joints cracking as he lowered himself to Six. “See, the possibilities are endless girl. So much I could do to you to hurt little Mono’s heart.” Thin Man stood up tall again, his neck cracking as he tilted it even more than what it normally is. “But so little time to do so.”
The Thins Mans white, black eyes widened. An idea popping in his head. “Oh….” His black eyes looked down at her. Six quivered in fear. “Oh I know what to do with you.” Thin Man lifted one of his long lanky arms. Six felt herself getting pulled towards the Thin Mans hand. Pain coursed through her veins as it felt like she was being split in half.
Six screamed. The Thin Man laughing as he wrapped his fingers around her small body. “Where is your precious Mono now?” The Thin Man chuckled as he glitched out of existence, taking Six with him.
