Six felt safe in Mono’s arms. He was warm and calm. His gentle aura made Six relax. Her face was buried in the crook of Mono’s neck, his head resting on top of hers. She could feel the soft strokes of Mono’s fingers drawing an imaginary picture on her back. She slightly flinched as the sudden loud noise that echoed through the Barber’s shop. Six could hear how the Barber was getting closer to them, his unstable feet shaking the floor after every step.
Six hugged Mono tighter, making sure that he was really with her. Never had anyone chosen to stay with her. Especially between life and death. Six nuzzled Mono, her hot tears slowing to a stop as Mono whispered in a hushed tone “it’s okay.” She knew it wasn’t going to be fine. But his voice was so confident it made Six believe that they were going to be fine. Mono’s gentle voice whispered in her ear again, “It’s okay.” His calming voice soothed Six.
A creak sounded from under the two while the Barber stepped closer. He took another wonky step. The floor whinnied under the two. Another stomp. The wooden floor crashed in on itself from under the two teens. Six yelped as a wooden board hit her on her injured leg. They fell.
A wooden surface stopped the two from falling any further. The hard surface winded Six as she landed on her back. Her sore leg pounded with pain, she hissed. Next to her, Mono jumped to his feet. Six sat up. Her head pounded. An ear piercing cry from the Barber nearly made Six’s headache worse. Mono went over to Six, holding a hand out for her to grab.
Six smiled, accepting his help. Hoisting her to her feet, Six lifted her leg, leaning on Mono. Mono kept his eyes on Six. Six gazed up. A huge hole in the rotten wood, which was only a few inches above, allowed soft white light to shine on the two. The Barber shops flooring was hallow, allowing any small creature to creep underneath. Should’ve done that as soon as we saw that man’s ugly face.
Darkness surrounded the two. The path ahead was like a tiny tunnel under the Barbers shop. The only faint light coming through cracks and the new giant spotlight they had made. Six gulped. Mono pulled out his flashlight, clicking it on. The light flickered, before buzzing off. Six’s hands trembled as Mono fiddled with the broken flashlight.
Suddenly, a sharp pair of pointy scissors stabbed the wooden floor behind Six and Mono. They both stiffened, their grip on each other’s hands strengthening. The rusty scissors wobbled about, the Barber struggling to pull its pointed tip from the wood. When the scissors was yanked from the floor, Mono and Six hesitantly looked up. Their tiny eyes where met with one big, empty one staring down at the two through a tiny hole.
The Barber screeched. Six felt cold, her eyes widening. Mono discarded of the light. It’s useless form clanking as it hit the wood. Wrapping his hand around Six’s waist, allowing her to lean some of her weight on him, the two rushed into the darkness. Six fought back heat that flourished in her cheeks. Not the time Six.
Cautiously, the two crouched through the dark tunnel. Six struggle to see what was ahead of her. She pressed her body into Mono, making sure she didn’t lose him, even if he hand a firm grip around her. She felt her heart beat faster and faster as the darkness engulfed her. Cool sweat trickled down her back. Fear settled in.
Franticly, Six looked over to Mono, calming her nerves. Even in the dark, she could see his features. His perfect face, bright hair, lively eyes. Six smiled, turning to look away. Her heart danced in her chest, but not from fear. It was a feeling that she didn’t know. An emotion that was a complete mystery. With her free hand, Six clutched her yellow raincoat in-between her fingers, holding onto the clothing above her heart. Am I dying?
Fat scissors came crashing down in-front of them. Creating a tiny spotlight as the scissors was pulled out. Six and Mono stayed in the same position, waiting for The Barbers next moves. Smash! The scissors came down, creating another spotlight behind the two. Six swings her head back, adrenalin coursing through her blood.
Bitting on her bottom lip, she starts to pick up the pace, using her bad leg. Her wound burned like raging blaze. But she pushed through. She didn’t feel like getting cut in half, or watching as Mono- She shook her head viciously, trying to not think about it. Another crash, came from behind. This time however, the two teens just kept moving, not daring to look back.
The Barbers fierce attempts to catch the two was getting desperate. He started to smash more and more holes into his floor. Six felt her hot breath, her breathing increasing as the Barbers scissors smashed its way closer and closer to the two. Luckily, after another hole was impaled into the floor, it created enough light for Six to see a small crack in a wall. Unconsciously, Six tugged on Mono’s long sleeved shirt, pulling him along. Mono caught onto her idea as they made their way to the crack.
Six made her way through, Mono forcing her to go first. Once Six was through, Mono followed. He made his way to her, instantly holding her hand. A desperate cry boomed through the wall. Six flinched from the noise, strengthening her grip on Mono’s hand. Let’s hope he doesn’t run through that wall.
Six stared at the wall that parted them and the Barber. Her mind was empty, as she stared. Blinking a few times to focus, she saw Mono staring at her from the corner of her eyes. Turning to face him, the two had a mini staring contest. Earth against fire. His brown eyes shimmered under the soft light, her bright amber eyes shining.
A grin found its way on Six’s face, Mono mirroring her smile. However, his smile was twice as bright and happy. His hair swaying gently in rhythm with his breathing. Six felt her heart flutter. At that moment everything was perfect.
CRASH!! From above, the stiff body of the Barber came falling through the rotten roof. His body bounced off of the hard floor. He made unnatural grunting noises. Six and Mono’s heads snapped in The Barbers direction. WHAT? How did he- When- How??WHAT!? The Barber lifted his flimsy body upright, his limbs cracking in place. His neck cracked as he glared down at them. He shrieked, pulling his long scissors from his side, snapping them. The Barber swiftly hobbled towards the two.
Six held in a whimper. Taking a step back, Six bit her lip as she put pressure on her injured leg. Her body fell back causing eyes closed on the impact, as she held back a scream. Seconds later she opened her eyes looking up from her sitting position, expecting to see the Barber. Instead she saw Mono, standing in front of her. The Barber stepped closer. Mono. Another Step. MONO! Move damn it. Another. MONO! PLEASE! MOVE! The Barber lifted his scissors, swinging them down at Mono. Six tried to scream, but she couldn’t. Her voice cracked as her heart snapped. MONO!
Centimetres from Monos Body, The Barber froze. His scissors shaking. A static noise filled the room, its glitch like voice echoing from a lower level. Six’s eye caught an elevator shaft, its strong metal wires exposed. The static made odd noises before fuzzing into a recognizable tune. The Barber was frozen, his legs and arms trembling. Howling, the Barber let one of his hands go from his scissors. He scratched at his ears. His feet stumbled backwards. He cried and shirked, his body tumbling back.
His eyes zoomed from left to right, his face frantic. With his scissors in his one hand, he tried covering his ears. His body stumbled closer to the open elevator shaft. His foot reached the edge of the floor, he cried. His body fell back, his hopeless calls echoing down as he fell, down, down, down, until they stopped.
Six sat on the floor. Her heart pulsing boiling blood. She slowly got to her feet, keeping her wounded leg elevated. She limped over to Mono, his gaze shifting to Six as she came up to him. His eyes softened. Mono held his hand out, Six taking it.
The floor started to gently shake, as the elevator moved. The metal wires shook as it pulled up the elevator. Six gasped, turning her head away from the rising elevator. The elevator jammed halfway up to their current floor, allowing a full view of the sadistic sight. Mono held onto Six’s hand firmly. Six closed her eyes, keeping her head turned from the sight.
The Barbers body lay limp on the roof of the elevator. His chest was impaled by his own scissors. Its long sharp end dripping with red blood. His face was squished against the cement surface of the elevators roof, blood dribbling form his nose and mouth. His empty white eyes crying red. His limbs were twisted in unnatural ways, every digit bent.
Mono gently tugged on Six’s hand, pulling her away. The two walked into another room. Moonlight glimmering through an open window. Six halted in her steps, causing Mono’s hands to slip from her fingers. He took a few steps before turning back to face her. “Six?” Mono asked, “You coming?” She nodded with a gentle smile. Mono returned her smile, continuing his way to the window on the opposite side of the room. When his gaze was not on her, Six bent down. She put her injured leg in front of her, cautiously taking off Mono’s coat. Her wound was black. The teeth and scratch marks were pitch black, with purple bruises surrounding them. “Six?” Quickly, Six tied Mono’s coat back around her wound.
She stood up, limping over to Mono. His form was highlighted under the moonlight. Six couldn’t help but sigh, relaxing. “Everything okay?” Six nodded, “yeah.”
