Mono felt his nose tickle with dust. The room was filled corner to corner with coal. For what reason, Mono didn't know, all he knew is that it made him want to sneeze. Next to him Six sneezed. It was the most adorable sneeze that ever existed. Mono quickly covered his mouth with his hand, holding back a chuckle. His shoulders bounced up and down as he suppressed his laugh. Six gave him a look. She looked so very annoyed. Under his breath Mono mumbled "it was so cute." A pout fell on Six's face. Her arms crossed as she gave Mono this blank 'seriously'expression.

Mono snorted, giving up on holding back his laugh. He felt heat rise to his cheeks. Glancing back at Six, Mono saw how her face grew red. Aww. So cute! Six looked the other way, huffing. This made Mono laugh even more. His chuckles ricocheted around the large, blank walls. Tears pricked his closed eyes, his body shaking from laughter, and his hair swung side to side. He held his sides, as his ribs started to hurt from his laughing explosion. By the time he opened his eyes, he saw a yellow raincoat walking away. Mono tumbled after Six, trying to catch up. "Six!" Mono snorted, "okay, okay! I'll stop." She froze in her tracks, slightly surprising him.

Once Mono reached her, she huffed again. Her arms were still crossed, clearly angry that he had teased her. "Sorry...." Mono whispered. Six slightly shifted her gaze to look at him. "It was just you sounded like a mouse." Her face fell flat. "I.... should of... kept walking," her voice was low, barley even audible. Mono's expression softened as he looked at the pouting girl. Mono looked to the ground, fiddling with his hands nervously. What if she hates me now! I didn't mean to upset her! Mono was about to apologize when he felt a warm hand land on his. Tilting his head he watched as Six wrapped her fingers around the hand that was closest to her. Her hand was toasty as it held onto Mono's cold hand. His head shot in her direction, a slim smile on her perfect face. "You sound like... a girl... when you scream," she uttered, her smile turning mischievous.

"Oh, okay. I get it pay back. Nice one," Mono muttered, walking in sync with Six. His gaze was still on her small form as they wondered through the dark, coal filled room. Her eyes were facing forwards when she ushered, "No... you really do... sound like... a girl." A deep blush covered Mono's face. Do I? He spun his head to face away from Six, his eyes scanning the dusty floor. He felt the embarrassment sink in. With his free hand her covered his face.

Crunch, crunch, CRUNCH! A sharp stab in his feet snapped Mono from his trance. Pulling his hand away from his face he looked down at his feet. Bones of pure white stood out from the black coal. Ew. Six knelt down and started to brush away some of the black dust. Mono bent down next to her, watching her work. When Six stopped dusting, the two stared at the huge skull infront of them. A rat skull. Between its yellow fangs was a peice of coal, while its cranium was cracked. Next to him Six stood up, but Mono was fascinated. His fingers lightly brushed the smooth surface of the skull. Wonder what happened. Its cracked cranium suggests that its death wasn't natural.

Six nudged Mono with her foot. Mono looked up at her before following her gaze. Oh F- there were dozens. All limp and lifeless. Rats. Their coats soaked with blood and coloured black, each one holding a peice of coal between their buck teeth. Their bodies appeared burnt, with peices of their flesh torn off from other rats. It was a blood bath. Mono got to his feet, his eyes never leaving the rat graveyard. He didn't move an inch when Six hugged his arm, burying her face in his arm. He honestly didn't blame her. The sight was grotesque.

His ears perked up at the sound of scurrying. It came from further in the building. He took a step forward but was pulled back by Six. He turned his eyes to face her. She shook her head, her slick black hair flowing in rythmic motions. "You can go back if you want," Mono whispered, "I understand if you do." At those words he felt Six tightem her grip on his arm. A smile fell on his face. He slowly patted Six's head. She stared at Mono slightly socked, before turning her face to look at her feet. Mono muffled a small chuckle. His gaze sharpened as he gazed ahead.

The two took careful but hurried steps at they passed the dead rats. Mono felt his eyes water. The smell was so bad. It felt as if it could burn Mono's nose until there was nothing left. Six snuggled closer to his arm, trying to block the revolting scent. Mono kept at a fast pace, wanting to find a way to escape as soon as possible. The farther the two walked into the bulding, the more and more the rat bodies piled up. It was like a murder sceen that just keeps stacking up.

A sharp clanking noise caught Mono's attention, Six's as well. Lifting their gaze away from the rats, the path ahead was dark. It was pitch black with big hills made of coal towering around like a ravine. The more the two walked in a straight line, the louder the clanking got. It sounded as if a metal mouth was snapping. Squinting, Mono started to see small, bright embers of a fire. Smoke started to swirl and twirl in the air. The noise came louder and louder. The orange light shone brighter and brighter. The smoke became thicker and thicker.

Mono covered his mouth with his hand, muffling a cough. The smoke burnt his lungs, choking him. Six stuffed her face in Mono's arm, holding a cough. Using his sleve to block out the black cloud, Mono felt his eyes water. Blinking furiously, he tried to get rid of the soot in his eyes. He started to feel like one of those fancy ladies that flutter their eyes. Moving closer to the snapping noise, Mono's ear picked up another noise. It was more subtle, but it was clear. Little squeeking and scurrying of rats.

Moving closer to a coal mountain, Mono peeked around the corner, trying to make out what was happening. A big metal jaw clamped shut before swining open, begging to be fed. The bright, orange light flashed on and off as it burned behind the metal mouth. The flames crackled with hunger, which was fed every time with a small piece of coal. Shifting his position, he watched as dozens of rats chomped on chunks of coal and carried it to the furnace. As they neared the greedy pit of flame, they threw the coal in. It made the fire sizzle with delight.

A small rat, made it is way to the furnace, throwing its share in. As it spun to make its way to collect more coal, the flame coughed up huge blazing embers. The poor rat was scorched. It squealed in pain as its fur burned away. It hissed, spitting. In an instant the other rats froze, staring down their small companion. When the rat stopped squirming, it stood panting, most of its fur scorched off. The other rats circled it, before pouncing. Mono held a gasp. They bit their large, yellow fangs into the burnt flesh of the weaker on. Their teeth sinking in on its meal. All the rats devoured their companion, feeding off of it like savages. And as soon as they started they stopped. One at a time they pulled away. Looking at their work. The dead rat barley had anything left of it, its bones holding onto eachother by small pieces of muscle.

They livs down here, giving power to the town, which gives power to the signal tower. These rats fend for themselves, controlled by the tower. They never feed. A shiver tingled down his spine. This was wrong. Mono fest his hair stand on end when two rats started to drag the dead body their way, the other rats minding their own work. The two rats where stained with black, a mix of coal dust and ashes. Keeping Six close, Mono ducked down, praying that the smell of ash and coal would cover their scents. The rats moved closer. Six held onto Mono's arm, her hand holding his. Mono's breath quickened. His eyes never left the two rats as they started to make their way past the two.

Just as Mono thought he was in the clear, one of the rats halted. Their dusty ears twitching, their tail swinging, and their teeth chattering. Backing up onto its hind legs, it gave a quick clean to its whiskers, its beady eyes, looking around. Its gaze fell on the two. The rat turned its head, its little noise sniffing the air. It lowered itself onto four legs, slowly creeping its way over to the two. Mono strengthened his grip on Six's hand, ready to run if the rat pounced. The rat came closer baring its fangs. At the sound of the other rat crying, it froze in its tracks. It turned to look over its shoulder, before looking back at the two. The rat sneezed, turning away and scampering towards the agitated cry. Why didn't it pounce... is it blind from the smoke.

Six pulled on his sleeve. Turning to face her, Six covered her eyes with her hand. So she thinks thay are blind too. Taking her hands off her face she peered around the corner with Mono. To pass all the rats they had to be quite, and move in sync with the chomping of the metal jaw. Mono gulped, his heart racing. He took as steady if a breath as he could througn his sleve. He repositioned his feet, preparing to run. His grip on Six's hand never faulting, as he prepared to sneak by the hoard of rats.
