Time seemed to stop. No one dared move an inch. The Doctor loomed over the two tiny teens. His breath wheezed through his nose, his mouth making odd growling noises. The Dolls stodd, watching, waiting. Their bodies waved from sized to side in anticipation. Mono held firmly to Six's hand, not planing on letting go any time soon. His other hand still held the metal box of Six's lighter.
His eyes darted from the Doctor to the Dolls. Their empty eyes never blinking, waiting for their prey to make the first move. Mono held his breath deep in his chest. His heart silently drumming, his lungs asking for air, his throat dry. Taking a dry gulp, Mono attempted to search his surroundings. Two things caught his eye. First, was an open vent that he hadn't seen before, the second was how the Doctors hand was moving towards the two slowly.
Keeping an eye on the big, sausage fingered hands, Mono slightly bent over to whisper into Six's ear. "There is an open vent to the left of us. On the count of three, we run to the vent. Got it," Mono vaguely tilted his head, waiting for Six to answer. She gave the most faintest of nods. "Three..." Mono tightened his hold on her hand. "Two..." He let out a jagged breath. "One..." Mono ducked down low, pulling his arm that held Six around his body. Her form skidded against the floor as Mono let go after swinging her weight around him. She came to a stop right next to the vent. Six looked up, confusion on her face. As long as she is safe.
The Doctor gave a broken howl. His fat hand reaching for Mono. Mono huffed as he leapt to the side, narrowly dodging the mans big hands. The Dolls yowled, "Mommy!" Before rushing Mono. Gasping, Mono tried to make his way to the vent, but the dozens of plastic children blocked him. Mono backed up, his hands up like he was trying to tame a wild bull. The Dolls surrounded him and behind them was the Doctor, crawling slowly behind. Mono tasted the bitter metalic taste of adrenaline. He peeked over to the vent, and Six was gone. His heart stung with an unknown feeling. She left... I guess it is what I wanted... but I didn't think she would actually leave me here to die.
They were closing in. "Mommy, let's play." "Mommy?" "Are you my Mommy?" "Lets go Mommy." It rung in his ears, each voice hurting more and more. His cluched the lighter in his hand tighter, trying to rid of the pain. Mono tried of cover his ears, pressing his hands against his paper bag. Suddenly, a rope made of tied bed sheets fell infront of him. Quickly glancing up he saw Six. She didnt leave me! Mono seized the bed sheets between his hands. It was rough between his palms. Pulling himself up, he started to climb. The Doctor wailed in sync with a pack of angry Dolls.
The Doctor started to rush over to where Mono continued to climb. But his foot got caught on the hanging light's wire. Mono made his way to the top. His hand took hold of the ceiling right before the bed sheet's were ripped from under him. Mono's body hung, his hands slowly slipping. He tried to pull his weight up but failed. Relief washed over him, as Six came over. She bent down and offered a hand. Mono took it. Six then pulled him up through the open ceiling.
Mono was on his hands and knees while Six was on her behind. She got up and dusted off her raincoat. She put out a hand as Mono looked up at her, he was in awe. Again he took her hand, and was hoisted up. Before Six could let go of his hand, Mono hugged her. "Thank you!" Six patts his back before huskly whispering, "not... the time." Mono pulls his arms away, putting them up in a surrendering position.
Suddenly, the Doctors arm shoots through a hole the ceiling. His plump fingers feeling about, while he made disturbing noises. "Right. Run first, gratitude later." He snatched up Six's hand before running away from the Docotrs arm. Lucky for them another vent was in view. Still holding hands, both dusked into the vents, following its maze like interior.
The vents lead the two down to the ground level. Mono, took the lead in the vent. Light shone through the metal lines of the crate. Pushing against the cover, Mono exited into an open room with long cushioned seats linned up against eachother in rows against the far wall. Mannequins carelessly placed on them. The clank of the vent behind him let Mono know Six was behind him. In the center of the wall a chair sat infront of a reception desk, with reinforced bars covering the glass, with a second chair tipped over. In the left corner of the room a vending machine was placed, while two pale blue doors sat in the middle of the left side's wall. Plastic limbs were scattered on the blue tiles, along with empty soda can from the veding machine. To the right was two big chalk green doors, woth mini windows in the middle of each, both infirced with wire.
Mono trotted over to the green doors, Six following. Upon closer inspection, he saw a huge lock on the door. Probably at the receptionist's desk. Walking to the reception desk, Mono saw how there was no door to get into the brick box. Mono slowed as he got to the receptionist's desk. He searched for a way in. His eyes landed on a small, circular cut hole. Mono heaved himself up onto the metal fold out chair, and preceded to haul himself atop to the tiny edge of the reception desk. His eye's caught the familiar appearance of a golden key that was mere milimeters from the small hole in the glass. Lowering himself onto one knee, Mono knew he would not fit through the tiny gap.
Next to him, Six pulled herself onto the cement edge of the counter. She wondered up beside him. CRASH! A loud noise echoed from behind Mono, causing Mono to look in that direction. It souded to be in another room. Keeping his gaze in the direction of the noise Mono muttered to Six, "Hey Six. I hate to sound like I am bossing you around, but do you think you could-" Mono turned his gaze back towards the gap only to see Six on her feet holding the golden key. His mouth hung open in shock. Six giggled before jumping down from the counter and making her way to the lock. Damn.
Just as Mono landed onto the frigid floor, the two blue doors were smashed open. Mono could hear the raspy breath of The Doctor. Holding in a gasp, Mono rushed over to Six. Six shoved the key into its slot and twisted it. The lock fell to the floor with a clang. Six started to push against the green door. Mono skidded next to her, crashing against the door and pushing against it. The Doctor wheezed, his body making the building shudder as he bolted over to the teens. Gritting his teeth, Mono closed his eyes as he rammed into the door with his shoulder.
The doors swung open, making the two tumble. A metal bridge holding them up froma raging river bellow. The bridge connected to a house that looked as if it had been cut in half. Mono felt a vibration in the metal bellow him, and in seconds the bridge was starting to retract, disconnecting from the other building. Tumbling onto his feet, Mono dashed to the end of the bridge, leaping off the end. He barley made the jump, grabbing onto a metal pole and pulling himself onto the ground. Looking behind him, Six was still on the bridge. Its metal body being eaten by the hospital's floor. She was too slow to make the jump, and now she was headding back to the Doctor. "SIX!" He could hear the blood curling chuckle of the big man. Six was struck with panic. Her head darted back and forth, between Mono, The Doctor and the rushing river bellow.
Again, Mono watched helplessly as Six fell into the rapid waters bellow. Her yellow coat soon becomming out of veiw as her form was dragged under its waves. Without thinking Mono dove in after her. The water was ice cold. His body was twisted and tirled left and right. He saw his paper bag fade away into the water. Mono coughed, water flooding his lungs. Taking a deep gasp, Mono swam under the currents. Bubbles blew from his mouth, his eyes darting under the water, searching for a yellow raincoat. When he spotted her, Mono pushed up from the rivers bed. His head bursted out of the waters surface. The river splashed, creating a white layer. Inhailing another breath with a handfull of sour liquid, Mono dove under the waves. He quickly swam towards the yellow coat in the water.
Reaching Six, Mono grabbed her unconscious body and wrapped an arm around her waist. Again pushing off of the muddy ground, Mono reached the surface. He choked and coughed, paddling with one arm. Mono made sure Six's head kept above water while also not drowning in the process. Water squirted in his face, hindering his vision. Squinting, Mono felt his eyes burn. Gasping and gulling for air, Mono felt his energy drain. Using the last of his power, Mono reached up, hopeing he would catch hold of something. And fortunately he did.
Hauling Six's body onto the pavement, he collapsed next to her. His body dripping wet. His brown hair plastered his face. He felt splinters in his hand from when he grasped onto the old tree branch. His breaths where hurried and uneven. Peering over his shoulder he watched as the tree branch was washed away by the river. Looking next to him, Six lay... still. Her body didn't move an inch, as her chest never filled with air. She wasn't breathing.
Mono dragged himself over to her. He placed his ear onto her chest, hearing no heatbeat. Six! Mono pressed his hands on Six's chest and started to compess on her chest. 28... 29... 30. Still no heart beat. "Come one Six! We survived a bloody noodle neck lady and a maggot Doctor!" Mono carefully pinched Six's nose. Okay, let's try not to have a heart attck while doing this. He hesitantly lowered his lips to Six's. Pressing his lips against hers, he started to force air into her lungs. Pulling away, he was about to start compressions again, but Six coughed. Mono rolled her to her side as she coughed out water. Sitting next to her, he waited for her to stop wheezing.
His face felt like pure flames. Oohh I am never thinking of that again.... argh I just did!..... her lips felt so nice- STOP, No, Bad. Mono violently shook his head, his wet hair smaching him in his face. He then remembered he didn't have his paper bag covering his face. Hugging one of his knees, he turned his gaze to Six. She rolled over to her back again. Six turned her head to face Mono. When their gazed met, she did something he never thought she would. Six pulled her hood down, before turning her gaze to look at the starless night sky.
She pulled her hood down... she is... she... I don't understand. Is she trying to make me feel comfortable without my mask, by putting her own mask down. Mono looked to the floor, feeling a smile on his face. Multiple soft growls echoed behind the two through the alleyways of the cities streets. Mono faced the noises. We are going to need to find a place to sleep. It isn't safe enough out here.
