Chapter 1
I yawned heavily as the sun filtered through my window. Another night getting barely 4 hours of sleep, I don't know how I'm supposed to succeed in college or life in general if I can't even get 8 hours of good, uninterrupted sleep.
My phone rang, my attention turning to the screen.
I groaned.
"Ugh. Time to get up now, I guess." I sat up, feeling dizzy.
"Ah, Emma, I made an appointment for you to see a doctor today!" My mom burst through my room.
"Why?" I asked, my eyes fluttering closed.
"That's why." She sighed, holding out her hand to me.
"It's not healthy for you to get so little sleep, when you were younger it was okay because you were always at home, but now you're going out into the world Emma, I can't have my little girl fail after I worked so hard to teach her because of her insomnia. No child of mine is going to stay up at ungodly hours doing anything but studying." She said decisively.
My mother was odd, but I loved her. Despite being strict about what my plans for the future were, she still showed me affection and for the most part let me hang out with friends, but she had to approve of them first.
"Now, I'll drive you your appointment as soon as your afternoon classes are over." She grinned at me, grabbing my hand and pulling me off the bed a bit harshly.
I trudged over to my wardrobe like a zombie, sifting through long skirts, khakis, and dark denim jeans as well as a few shirts with inspirational or religious sayings. I decided to go with something simple, a plain black t-shirt with a pair of jeans.
My mom shook her head, running to the other room and coming back with a blazer.
"Now my girl looks more professional. Oh honey, you've grown up so fast." She said, hugging me and pinching my cheeks.
"Mooommmm..." I whined.
"Ok, ok. I love you Emma." She smiled.
"I love you too Mom." I kissed her on the cheek, heading out the door. I got in my car pulling out my hair brush and makeup since my mother would lose it if she saw me leave the house wearing makeup.
Freshman year of university and my mother was still looking over my shoulder. I did appreciate her paying for me to go to college, but I couldn't handle her constant hovering and demands.
Afternoon classes were always boring, so as I pulled in to a parking lot in front of the campus, I wasn't expecting today to go much different.
After a few lectures, I finally had Bio which was at least a semi-interesting class. Not because I liked biology per-say, but because of a boy named Kim Taehyung.
I met him my first day of Bio when I accidentally dropped an entire pile of textbooks on his foot.
Flashback
I turned red in the face as the textbooks hit the ground directly in front of me and a rather handsome classmate of mine.
"O-oh my goodness. I'm so sorry!" I apologized, bowing my head like crazy.
He gave me a boxy smile and shook his head.
"That's alright, I'll just pass them out. Don't worry about it." He told me, taking the books from the ground and sliding his foot out from under them.
Flashback End
After that day, Taehyung has always smiled in my direction and greeted me every morning when we ran into each other in the hallways.
I guess you could say I should've seen it coming, but Taehyung was the farthest thing from a demon I could ever imagine. He was always smiling at everyone, very polite and well-mannered. My mother would've loved him.
Well, until she found out the real truth.
How I found out about Taehyung's secret identity you may ask yourself? Well, it all started that day after class.
"Hi honey, how was class?" My mother asked me as I got into the passenger seat of my own Suburban.
"Great, are you leaving your car here again?" I asked her.
"Oh, it's fine. By the time you get out of your appointment, I'll have already driven back and gotten my car." She assured me.
"It just feels better knowing my baby is safe with me and not driving on her own."
I nodded.
"Ok Mom." I murmured, buckling my seatbelt.
We drove to the doctor's office and she came with me to the office to help me sign in, then went back out to the car. I sat, waiting for my name to be called when I saw a familiar redhead.
"Oh, hey Emma." The male gave me a boxy grin, waving.
"Oh, hi Taehyung. Good to see you again, here to see the doctor?" I asked.
No duh he's here to see a doctor, why else would he be here dummy?
I thought to myself.
He nodded. "Just a check-up, you?"
"Oh, I have really bad insomnia and I
guess I've decided enough is enough." I shrugged.
"Jung Emma." A voice called, making my look towards an open door. "Jung Emma."
I perked up, collecting my belongings and standing. "That's me." I said, looking at Taehyung.
"I'll see you at school!" I said, following the nurse into the doctors.
Long story short, the doctor started me on some kind of sleeping pills and said I needed to take them every night 30 minutes before bed.
By the time I had come back outside, both cars were there, along with my little brother.
"Hey, I brought your car since Mom left it over there when she went to get hers." He said.
Mom waved from her car.
"Bye honey, I'll see you at home!" She exclaimed, driving off.
I sat in the driver's seat, driving my brother and I home.
"She's crazy." My brother spoke up, making me nod and hum in agreement.
"Mhm." I said.
Once we got home, it was about 8pm already, so I took one of the sleeping pills and headed up to my room.
And that night, I finally got a good sleep...
Is what I wish I could say.
Except, instead, as the pills kicked in, a familiar man appeared in my dreams, giving me his heartfelt boxy smile.
"Taehyung?" I asked, looking at the redhead.
He shook his head.
"Call me V." He corrected.
"Okay, V. Why are you here?" I asked.
"I see how you look at me in class, Emma. I know you've got to have some kind of deep dark feelings about me." His voice was raspy and I almost shivered at the tone.
"Yeah? I'm sure most of the girls at our university do, but I'm not one of them. Sure, I'd date you, but anything else would have to wait until marriage or else my mother would kill me." I said.
"You feel nothing... sexual towards me?" His hand reached to my arm, rubbing it and sending bolts of some kind of calming electricity down it.
"I mean... I mean, well I never said that exactly." I sputtered.
He chuckled, deep and dark making my heart leap, his hand cupping my chin as he leaned in to me.
"You're different, you know that?" He smiled, leaning closer to me and connecting our lips.
I froze at first, everything felt so real.
I wanted to pinch myself, but my hands were occupied as they had been wrapped around his waist.
"Mm, Taehyung, we can't." I murmured.
"V, and I know princess, I just wanted a taste." He grinned before he disappeared altogether, leaving me flustered.
The sound of my alarm woke me from my slumber, bringing me back to the land of the waking. I got up, got dressed and did the same things as I always did.
As I reached my last afternoon class of the day, I ran into V, Taehyung, and gave him a smile.
"Hey V." I said, realizing what I had just called him.
"Hi princess." He replied, giving me a wink.
I felt my heart stop.
There's no way that was real.
Except there was, because Taehyung
was an Incubus
