A gasp flowed through the air as she surfaced, her braids breaking the water as they flowed around her like vines. Her eyes settling on the figure resting their feet against the concrete wall.

"Back into the water I see" the woman hummed her hazel eyes cat like narrowed dangerously as she held a phone—Serenity's phone in her hand.

Serenity huffed shifting to her feet from her stomach to stand against the tiles on the pool floor, "What are you doing here?" She questioned bitterly moving her braids to one side of her body to even the balance of heaviness and her head.

"Checking up on you" Her friend rolled her eyes before a playful smile reaching her eyes, "So, Vibrator broke huh?" She laughed at the embarrassment that creeped on her face.

The laugh that ruptured from her belly rang throughout the area, "Shut up, Mona!" Her smile showing off her pearly white teeth as she splashed her friend. "And actually it's charging"

There was a moment of silence between the two before both of the erupted with laughter. The sky was blue and the birds chirped along as the two friend sat in the apartment complex pool gleefully living life amongst each other. Serenity moved to the edge of the pool Mona catching the hint and scooting over allowing her to jump out of the water and plop down on the edge next to her, her braids whipped against her cheek as she huffs having been in the water for so long.

"Nah, but really girl have you been in the pool all day?" Mona asked in concern.

Serenity shook her head, "Not all day, just most"

Mona rolled her eyes—for real this time as she sighed, "Girl, look I know that it's been hard for you since..." she paused as Serenity sent her a glare as she whistled. "But you need to get out more, not just with me and the group but by yourself"

"I like being in the house" Serenity shrugged.

"Yeah, because you can play with yourself in peace I know" Serenity shoved Mona playfully. "But I hate seeing you like this, I get it you've been used and abused but I miss you"

Guilt clouded in her mind as she sees the sadness on her friends face, "It's been two years, Ren and I think it's time you finally put yourself out there"

"But it's not about what you think, it's about what I'm ready to do" Serenity sighed, "I'm scared"

Mona smiled as she put her arm around her best friends as their heads knocked together softly in momentum, "I know which is why I did this"

Serenity frowned, "did what?"

Her phone was flashed into her face as she was shown a DM message from Love Island USA; Hey, we're the love Island crew and we're wondering if you'd like to be casted as one of our hot Bombshells this season! We think you'd be a great addition! Serenity laughed pushing the phone away.

"Yeah, right" she hummed but stilled when she didn't her Mona laughed along as she sat up.

"Mona, please tell me you didn't" she begged but the brown skinned girl smiled sheepishly.

"They want to fly you out by the end of the month!" She squealed excitedly as Serenity gaped at her.

"Mona!" She exclaimed, "Why would you do this?I don't want to go on a dating show!"

Mona waved her off, "But girl I thought this would be in your element!" She explained thoughtfully. "I mean it's a tv show, you're an actress I mean not that this is an acting role but you'll be in front of the thing you love most a camera! Doesn't that sound nice?"

"No?" Serenity blinked confused, "it doesn't"

Mona kissed her teeth, "Girl be so for real"

"Mona, just because I love watching reality tv doesn't mean I want to be on one!"

"It's not just about being on tv" Mona calmed her down her hand smoothing against her arm, "it's about getting over he who should not be named, it's about you branching out again!"

Serenity thought about it for a moment, it did sound fun and she would technically be doing something she likes but it didn't change her anxiety of finding love on camera for thousands to see and embarrass herself and her career.

"Even if I did want to go" She started cautiously, "what about work? And my apartment, Inky?" She began to list off anxiously.

Mona smiled victoriously as if she won a gold medal, "I'll take care of all that, you don't have to worry about work you just finished filming and don't have anything else lined up until the end of the summer. I'll keep watch over your apartment and I'll make sure Inky is alive"

"And make sure he has his daily routine?" She urged but Mona shrugged.

"He'll be alive"

Serenity sat for there staring at her best friend, the woman who's been attached to her hip since they met in the seventh grade. The woman who was there when she went on her first date and hid behind a booth to watch, and gossiped with her when that boy kissed her on the cheek. The one who held her for every heart break, the one who held her even when she found out she liked another gender but wasn't her. She loved her.

And knew that she wanted what was best for her.

"What time is the flight" She smiled brightly as her best friend squealed tightly gripping her into a hug as they swayed back and forth the water splashing against their legs as they celebrated.

"My girl is going to Fiji, my girl is going to Fiji!"

Serenity smiled against the closely resembled chokehold the other woman had on her, "Maybe you should take my place" she suggested.

"No, thanks" her head shook, "I've got a man!"
