Sweet Creature.

Dear Alan,

You'll have to forgive me for my lack of communication over the years, and my abrupt re-entry into your life by writing this letter. As a fellow scholar, and emissary, I hope you can understand my tendency to become lost in my latest project.

Which brings me to why I am writing you now.

Before I begin, I must implore you to widen the scope of your imagination as far as you are able. I know you are not one to doubt unbelievable stories, or question the inexplicable anomalies of the supernatural world, but even I must admit how challenging it is to wrap your head around this particular case.

Recently while teaching a graduate class out of country, I became enamored with Western European Folklore. Every moment I wasn't in a classroom, I found myself in a local library reading every piece of literature I could get my hands on. Rather quickly, I became fixated on one folktale in particular— fae.

Or, as you might hear it more commonly, fairies.

They are fascinating. Everything about them... their abilities, their realm outside of our own. All of it. Still, it was, pardon the pun, a fairytale.

It wasn't until I returned to the States did I stumble upon a hint suggesting fae were perhaps more than a folktale. In a local museum, of all places, in a glass case I found 3 weathered, ancient-looking pages on fae. Only this time, the formatting wasn't one of a story book— I recognized it instantaneously. It was the three pages that had been torn from the bestiary lifetimes ago. The pages never found, never identified. The three missing pages that keeps every believer of the supernatural world up at night.

It answered centuries worth of questions in a single breath. I had found them. Even more surprising, I had re-discovered the existence of an entirely new mythological species that had slipped through the cracks of time.

Knowing well of the accuracy of the bestiary, I had no choice but to test what had been written down about the comings and goings of their realm— an alternate dimension full of nothing but great, scary, enrapturing unknown. And I'll be damned Alan, it was far from folklore.

However... all explorers such as you and I know that every experiment comes with a certain kind of risk.

I opened the portal for no more than ten seconds. I did everything just right. But... I'm not entirely confident I closed it in time for everything on the other side of it to stay on the other side of it.

And if I am right, and one did escape, I fear the consequences might be catastrophic. Lethal, even. A mistake that might pose a threat to the human race unlike one we've seen before.

Fae as told in the bestiary is unlike Fae portrayed in modern media. They're not tiny with rosey cheeks and sparkling translucent wings, and they don't fly around spreading pixie dust and granting wishes.

They're vicious, deadly, and power hungry. Inherently, their species hates humans... it's in their blood to command any thrown and destroy any other living thing standing in the way of it. And I'm afraid they just might have the power to do so.

So I suppose I'm writing to request your help, to warn you of what might be lurking, and to ask you to keep your eyes peeled. If you see or hear anything, please write me back.

     Godspeed.
