Caroline woke the next morning with a pounding headache.

At first in the haze of the late morning, she couldn't recall why she felt so bad but then the previous night's activities came rushing back to her.

She groaned and forced herself to get out of bed before making her way to the bathroom. After washing her face in an attempt to wake herself up, she peered at her face in the mirror, not at all surprised to see the dark circles under her eyes. She ran her tongue over her lips in an effort to make them less dry, before leaving the bathroom and going to the kitchen to find herself some Advil.

Her brother was already in the kitchen and he looked at her when she came in, rubbing her tired eyes, "Yeah, you look how I feel."

"Like shit? Yeah, pretty much." Caroline cursed as she opened a cupboard and reached inside for some Advil before taking the recommended dose with a glass of water.

"That party went south rather quickly didn't it?" Caleb stated as he took out a bottle of instant coffee, since they still didn't have power.

"Quickly? It took literal hours for that party to get messed up." Caroline said, confused, and then held her hand out for the instant coffee, "Okay I need some of that. I feel awful."

"All the milk's gone bad." Caleb said as he handed the bottle to her, "Actually everything in the fridge has gone bad."

"Why don't we have power yet?" Caroline asked, taking the bottle and spooning out some of the instant coffee into her cup.

"Because our parents aren't here. Oh and cell towers are still down so I can't call anyone." Caleb said as if it was obvious, "I'll go ask the Cameron's for help, later. They can probably set up someone to come and help. Besides, have you seen how clean their yard has been since the "

"Yeah and are you going to hack dad's credit card to pay for it?" Caroline asked, stirring the coffee.

Caleb gave her a look as if to say 'obviously', and then he changed the subject, "I thought you said you were going to stay away from the Pogues, Care."

Caroline rolled her eyes as she grabbed a roll from a bag on the counter and took a bite before she spoke, "I knew you were going to say something."

"What am I supposed to think, Care? You were talking to JJ half the night." Caleb said.

"No, I wasn't. Besides, you already lectured me about this at the party. I don't need another lecture." Caroline said as she took another bite of her bread roll.

"I'm just worried about you, Care. Besides, JJ was the one who pulled a gun out and pointed it at Topper." Caleb defended himself.

"Fat lot of good you were." Caroline said looking at him, "Where the hell were you?"

"Trying to stay out of trouble. Unlike you." Caleb lectured her.

"Okay I was actually trying to defuse the situation." Caroline glared, "Obviously it didn't work but at least I tried."

"You shouldn't have though, Care. You could have gotten seriously hurt." Caleb said.

"At least I tried, Caleb. John B could have died!" Caroline insisted.

"I'd rather him die than my little sister!" Caleb yelled and that shut Caroline up.

She was irritated with how her brother was treating the Pogue. Though she knew basically every Kook didn't like the Pogues, she had never really heard her brother talk about them in such degrading ways and it was definitely making her uncomfortable.

Caroline stared at him for a long few minutes before she spoke again, "I'd rather no one died."

"So would I." Caleb said, agreeing with her.

"JJ was just trying to save his friend." Caroline defended. She secretly knew that JJ had been desperate which is why he'd pulled out a gun and it probably was the only thing that would have stopped Topper since he'd been clearly unhinged.

"And now you're defending the Pogues." Caleb said, exasperated, "The Pogues, Care."

"And? This whole Pogues versus Kooks thing is so stupid and I can't believe you're buying into it. Topper almost killed one of them and you're literally out here blaming them" Caroline stared at her brother.

"It's always been this way, Care. It's not like it's a new thing." Caleb said, looking confused.

"I know it's not but it's not usually my own brother being the one trashing them." Caroline answered.

"And it's not usually my sister defending them." Caleb shot back, "He pulled a gun on Topper! I don't care if he was trying to save John B. He's a criminal, Care and I want you to stay away from him."

"Just because you're a year older than me doesn't mean you get to tell me what to do, Caleb." Caroline crossed their arms, "You've never told me to stay away from Kie before. Does she not count cause she's rich?"

"She's never done anything like pull a gun on someone." Caleb corrected, "And yeah she's not a real Pogue."

Caroline raised an eyebrow, "Of course you'd say that. Of course you can't understand that some of us don't actually want to be like all these other Kooks."

"Okay I'm not having a conversation about this with you right now." Caleb said.

"You started it, Caleb." Caroline rolled her eyes.

Caroline was tired of arguing with their brother on this topic. She knew JJ had done something incredibly dangerous and they had confronted him about it but she didn't like the fact that her brother was suddenly trying to control her life.

"I appreciate you trying to look after me, Cal, but I can take care of myself." Caroline stated, and before he could say anything else, she got another bread roll, and took her coffee upstairs.
