Wait For Me
Cody
I don't want her to get up and walk away. Fuck the timing, if it were any other woman, I'd say the hell with it. I've been through hell and I don't need the headache, but Caroline isn't just any other woman.
Sex isn't even what's on my mind. Well, it is, but it's not what I need at this moment. I just need her close, right here with her lips on mine, with her body close, and her mind open to let me in. I could hold her just like this all night, and be a happy man.
"I'll wait as long as you need. You have no idea what the time we've had means to me." I said.
Her eyes softened.
"You're not just saying that because you're going through a rough patch?" She asked.
"I don't think you understand. My rough patch is almost over. This is the light at the end of a deep, dark tunnel. My life has been controlled through my whole marriage, and this is one decision I can make that's not wrong. I tried, I tried very hard, but I couldn't do it anymore. I haven't felt a thing in a very long time. Not until the first time I heard you sing, then you turned around and I saw you. I didn't just feel something, you took my breath away. That on stage between us isn't just artistic chemistry, and you know its true. We inspire each other." I said.
"You'll wait?" She asked.
"As long as you need, but I need you close. What do you need, Caroline?" I cupped her face.
Holy shit, her skin is soft.
She studied my eyes. "Patience, I don't give myself to a man very easily."
"Good, then I have nothing to worry about." I smirked
She smiled, then curled up in my arms. I had to do it. I turned my head and kissed the top of hers, taking in her scent, then laying my head back.
I've never felt so connected to anyone. You would think that would happen during sex, but no, not with Caroline. For right now, just having her close is good enough. I fell asleep, but woke when I felt her move. I could feel her steady breaths, but we can't sleep like this all night. I stood with her in my arms and carried her toward her bedroom, but she jumped and I almost dropped her. "What's going on?" She was startled.
I chuckled. "We fell asleep on the couch, I'm just laying you down."
"Thank you." She laid her head back against my shoulder, before I laid her down on her bed.
"You don't have to go. Come lay down with me." She said.
"I need to go change for bed," I whispered back.
"Okay, but come back." She said in her drowsy voice.
I'm not sure if that's the sleep talking or what, but I went to my room and changed, then saw a light. I walked out, and she was getting a drink of water in a pair of shorts and a tank that's snug against her body.
"Are you coming back in?" She asked.
Did she mean that?
"If you want me to." I answered.
"Come on, I'm used to being spooned, but I don't miss the snoring." She said.
I had to laugh a little at her.
We curled up into bed, and I slept better than I have in years.
When I woke, I smelled coffee. I'm not a fan, but a beautiful woman making it? I'm definitely a fan.
I brushed my teeth, then stood in the doorway of her room and watched her as she poured a cup of coffee. Are women usually this beautiful first thing in the morning?
I saw she was reading something on her phone and leaned against the counter. Then she smiled, before noticing me walking toward her.
"Anna sent me this article. It says Cody Reid's performance in L.A. over the weekend was both inspiring and sexy." She giggled.
"What? You don't think I'm sexy?" I wiggled my eyebrows, and she rolled her eyes then smiled.
"It talks about the divorce. Does that mean you're going to be called up for interviews?" She asked.
"That's exactly what that means," I said back.
"Want some coffee?" She asked, but I scrunched up my nose and shook my head no. "I'm not a fan, but I am a fan of girl drinking it." I wrapped my arms around her and gave her a hug since I'm probably not allowed to do anything else.
She actually hugged me back, then shocked me when she gave me a peck on the lips, then went to walk away.
I caught her from behind. "You can't do that then just walk away." I kissed her neck and felt her shiver.
Holy shit!
That wasn't just a little shiver, she has goosebumps. I've never known that kind of reaction. Oh my God, I wish I could run my hands all over those goosebumps.
I ran my hands down her bare arms, then she turned her head to look back at me. I'm going in, there's no stopping me now.
Just as my lips brushed hers, there was a banging on the door and she jumped.
I'll kill the bastard!
"Ignore it." I whispered, but she gave me a quick peck on the lips and walked away.
I'm pissed when I swung open the door, and in front of me stood two pissed hungover dudes, and Dean with a smirk on his face.
"I think these belong to you." He said.
It's a damn good thing I can hide what's bulging in my pants. I hate these bastards, I almost got a damn kiss, fuckers.
"You got them in the divorce." It's obvious I'm not amused when I turned my back and walked away.
I leaned against the counter. "Jax, I heard you're a real giver." I said.
"Fuck you, Reid," Jax said, as he made his way to the couch. "Does your girlfriend have anything to remove this shit?" He asked.
My girlfriend?
"Watch what you say, Jax. In case you've forgotten, I'm in the middle of a divorce, and I don't want Caroline pulled into this shit." I warned him.
Dean poured a cup of coffee.
"That's why I'm here. P.R. wants you to do an interview today. June's lawyer said they're putting out a press release about the divorce and the baby just as she promised. You need to clear the air, ASAP. Most media outlets already know what's coming, and they think you should tell your side of the story." Dean said.
"This shit should be private." I pointed out.
