Headache or Heartache
Cody
"How dare you say something like that about Caroline?" I asked. I'm so pissed I can barely look at June.
"Did you even ask her if she wanted Jessie around today? You're obviously together." She stood there with her arms crossed and wearing her best bitch face.
"My daughter comes before anyone and Caroline would never turn her away. She likes spending time with Jessie. Now Jessie is going to think Caroline doesn't like her." I said.
"I guess I should watch what I say a little better and you're right, Caroline is good with her. It just hurts to see you with someone else." She whined.
"You came here asking me to speed up the divorce process so you can marry your baby's father, then say it hurts seeing me with someone as loving and wonderful as Caroline?" I asked in disbelief.
"I'm sorry, it was wrong. If you'll just agree to my terms we can have this over in a heartbeat and we can both start our lives again." She said.
"I am not giving up any rights over Jessie, it won't be happening. I'm taking a year off after this tour and we will get it all figured out." I said.
"What do you want? Partial? You can't take her on tour when you finish this next album." She said.
"I'll hire a nanny and take her on tour during the summers and when I'm not on tour I'll take her every other weekend. We can trade off holidays or something." I said.
"I don't want her on tour, look what happened to Sean. She doesn't need to be around those things." She said.
"That's why I will have a nanny. Hell, I've never been around those things and don't you dare use Sean's death against me! Do you really think I'd put Jessie in that kind of situation?" I asked
"Of course not, Cody. It's just hard for me to even think about her being away from me for so long. I've always had her with me." Her eyes watered.
I sighed. "I get that, June, I really do but I need time with her too. I begged for the two of you to join me on the tours but you refused. We can see about breaking it in slowly. Start with a few weeks at a time and build up from there, but don't ever ask me again to give up any rights I have to her as her father." I said.
She let out a deep breath. "That sounds fair, so can I have the papers drafted up and you'll sign them?" She asked.
"Yes, now can Jessie stay or not?" I asked.
She shook her head no. "I promised your dad he could have her for a few hours, after that she's yours."
"That's fine. Let's go get her so dad doesn't get anxious." I said.
We heard the music as soon as we walked in and found a couple of giggling girls dancing and using wooden spoons as microphones.
My little girl's blond curls bounce as she copies my beautiful girlfriend's moves. I look over at June and she's fighting back full blown laughter.
Jessie swings around and sees us. "Mommy! Come on!" She ran up and tried to get June to join in but June wouldn't budge. Before I knew it Caroline was helping entice June to dance. It's been years since I've seen June laugh so much, and I have to admit it's nice to see. Damn, this is one hell of a scene unfolding in front of my eyes.
June finally squirmed away with Jessie then kissed my cheek and whispered, "I support you, but you're going to have your hands full with these two." She walked away shaking her head and holding Jessie's hand. Caroline turned down the radio.
"See you later, daddy." Jessie said.
"Bye Jessie."
"I'm sorry about that, Caroline. She knows she was out of line." I wrapped my arms around her.
"It's okay, Jessie knows how much I adore her, but I think you need to have a talk with her very soon." She pecked my lips.
"About us being together? I think she already knows." I said.
"About her feeling my belly and asking me when the baby's coming." She laughed. "I didn't think I gained any weight."
"Wow, yeah I'll talk to her. Did she seem okay?" I asked.
"You saw her, she's fine. It's hard to believe someone so chipper and always happy came from you two party poopers." She tapped my nose.
"I'm chipper, some even say perky." I gave her a cheesy grin and she rolled her eyes.
"You won't be either if you have a cold breakfast." She pecked my lips again. "Sit." She directed me to my chair and brought me juice and pancakes then sat down next to me.
"I told my parents about you," I said with a smirk.
She set her fork down. "Do they think I'm a homewrecker?" She asked.
I laughed. "No, my parents are good people and I really think you'll like my mom."
"You've never told me anything about them. What are they like?" She picked her fork back up and started eating?
"Well, dad is a rancher and a pretty fun guy and mom..." I smirked and looked over at her. "She's the high school band director." I said.
She busted out laughing. "Your mom is a music teacher and you failed to mention this, Cody?" She looks excited.
"Yeah, how do you think I know how to play so many instruments? I didn't mention it because I spend more time looking at you than talking." I said.
She again laughed and covered her mouth with her hand. "You talk plenty."
"I'd like to do less talking and more of something else." I wiggled my brows at her and her laughter died down.
"That won't happen until we are on a deserted island and nobody else exists." She said.
"We should change that right now." I reached over and pulled her on top of me.
