Burning House

Caroline

The man they call Jax, reached into Cody's car and turned on the radio.  Cody jumped off his tailgate and walked over to me, and I squealed when he lifted me up to sit on the tailgate, then he jumped up and sat next to me.  He didn't say anything, but just listened to his bandmates as they joked and made fun of each other.

I saw him smirk and shake his head a few times, but Anna kept mouthing at me.  "He wants you," and I just wanted to kick her.  Not only is he married, but his daughter is also my student.

He finally turned to me.  "We should collaborate and write something." He said.

"I'm not sure, I have no clue where to start." I said.

He smiled.  "It'll come to us.  When could you start with Jessie?" He asked.

"Whenever you want, but Friday afternoons." I said.

"What about tomorrow?  I have some work to do around the farm in the morning, but could swing by with her around noon." He said.

"Sure"

They started teasing Dean and Cody about being snobs toward groupies.  "Y'all are the reason antibiotic manufacturers make so much money.  You don't sleep with those chicks without taking something away with you." Dean teased.

Jax joked. "That's why you gotta wrap it up, man."

This is actually disgusting.  Cody didn't even look like he was listening.

"How do you stand this stuff?" I looked at Cody and whispered.

"He's been married to June since he was twenty." Jamie teased since he must have overheard.

"Divorce isn't a joke, man." Dean shook his head.

"No shit, Carrie could tell you all about that!" Anna is seriously drunk. "Her husband came home with a kid one day!" She announced.

Anna laughed, but everyone paused, and I was devastated.

"Anna, I think it's past your bedtime," I said.

She laughed.  "My cousin is the biggest dumbass I've ever known.  Can you believe the baby was a year old before the mom took off and Carrie found out?" She asked.

Cody looked at me.  "Who was this jackass?" He asked.

I shook my head, there's no reason to even talk about it.

"Can you believe he honestly thinks she's coming home to play mom to the little girl?  My grandpa about tar and whipped the dumbass!" Anna rolled her eyes.

"Anna!  Stop!" I was getting pissed.

"It's alright, Caroline.  My wife did almost the same thing.  Came home after three months on tour, and she was knocked up.  I packed up, filed for divorce, and all that matters now are my twin boys." Dean said.

"Sorry to hear that, Dean.  Thankfully, we never had children.  I was busy getting my P.H.D., so I lucked out." I said.

"Damn! You're a doctor?" Sean laughed.

"Of music." I bragged.

"Carrie, I need to pee," Anna whined, so of course, I had to help her find a damn tree.  I know she's drunk, but she didn't need to share the humiliation of my life.

"You need to sober up.  This is ridiculous, Anna.  This isn't high school." I reamed her ass all the way to her perfect tree.

"Do you think Dean likes me?" She asked with a slur.

"Jesus, Anna.  Your drunk, so who the hell knows.  I'm trying to save you from humiliation.  I need to get you home."

She laughed, as she tried to squat behind a tree.  "I think that's a good idea."

I helped her up, and took her back to where the guys were standing.

"I think we should get this one back to my place," I informed the group.

Cody hopped down.  "Your probably right." He took his keys out of his pocket, and Dean helped her into the back seat of Cody's truck, and I jumped up front.

It was quiet until Dean spoke up.

"Are you seeing that bulky guy you were sitting with earlier?"  He asked me, but Anna laughed.

"Hell no!  That's my slimy cousin Matt,  Carrie's ex-husband." Anna said.

"I can speak for myself, Anna.  Go to sleep or something." I said.

"So your not seeing anyone?" Dean asked.

"That's her business." Cody snapped.

"The closest Carrie gets to getting laid, is that damn cello that she plays between her legs." Anna mumbled, and Dean laughed.

"I wish I was a cello." He said, and Cody looked annoyed.

"Why not lay off her personal business, Dean?  I think her friend already crossed the line." Cody said.

Cody obviously thinks it's about as funny as I do.  I gave him directions to my house and ignored the other two.

"I'll carry her up," Dean said as we hopped out of the truck.

"Thanks," I said.

"No problem." He said.

"He's not exactly sober either," Cody said.  "I'll come help." He offered.

I walked away from the truck and went to the front door.

"Oh, don't mind Gizmo, my dog.  I apologize, but he is sort of an attention whore." I said.

Dean stood, carrying a sleeping Anna, while I unlocked the front door then opened it.  "Gizzy," I called for him.

He came running, and both Cody and Dean jumped.

"Jesus Christ!" Cody said.

Gizmo ran up and licked my face.  "Take her up to the guest room if you wouldn't mind.  I need to walk him real quick, it's the first door on your right." I said.

"Since when did people start calling horses dogs?" Dean asked as he walked toward the steps and kept an eye on my big guy.

"Gizzy's an Irish Wolfhound," I said to Cody as I started out the door.

"I'll come with you." Cody volunteered.

"What will you do with him when you leave?" He asked.

"He came from my parents, so he will stay with them.  My mom runs a rescue at their farm." I explained.

"I guess safety isn't an issue for you out here." He smiled.

"Not in this town, but this guy wouldn't help anyway.  He would just try to make friends."  I said.
