A New Journey
Cody
Caroline is determined we found Sean's replacement, but I'm not so sure, either way, Caroline is the prodigy, so we will see how this goes tonight.
Caroline insisted she meets with the girl first. I was in the room alone, when I got a call from June saying she received the signed divorce papers, and asked one more time if this is what I wanted. Of course it is, I've wanted this for years, but only stayed for Jessie. Now maybe I'll get to spend more time with my daughter.
I'm in love with Caroline, and I would give up everything but Jessie just to build a life with her, but I'm scared. We are down to just two weeks before she has to be in Vienna for a year. I can't survive that long, but I also can't ask her to stay.
She sent me a text and said she's ready for us. Wally has started the background check, and some of what he found was disturbing. Lana is only 22 years old and ran away from home at a young age.
She ended up on the streets, but was caught by the authorities and placed back in her family home until, once again, she ran. She has no formal education, so getting into this with the girl could end up costing us.
Wally said he will be drug testing her, and it'll all depend on her behavior and talent. I just hope we don't end up letting Caroline down. She's done so much for us, but we have to think about what's best for the band, and not what's best for the girl.
I could already hear her playing before we even opened the doors. It was one of our songs, and it was very good, maybe even great. My beautiful Caroline was standing next to the piano watching the girl like a proud mother, then looked at me with a smile. The girl definitely has talent.
I stood behind Caroline and wrapped my arms around her, while the guys stood in awe. This girl is cleaned up, and literally looks like an angel.
If we take her on, one of these guys is going to fall hard for this girl. She's adorable, but nobody compares to my Caroline. She finished the song, and we were all impressed.
"Where are you staying right now, Lana?" I asked.
Caroline spoke up. "Can we talk about that later?" She asked, so she must know the girl is barely taking care of herself.
"I kinda think we should talk about this now," I whispered in her ear.
"Excuse us." I took Caroline by the hand and went out into the hall.
"Wally did a check, and she's young, Caroline. She's a runaway, and has been on the streets." I said.
"She's working at the docks and has a room at a motel. We might be just what the girl needs. She's talented, so sweet, and she's very intelligent, Cody." She said.
I love how caring she is, but I'm not so sure.
"She's not had any formal training." I pointed out.
"She has me." She said.
"For two weeks, remember you're leaving soon." I reminded her.
She just stared up at me. "She has you. You are a fantastic teacher, and could help her so much when I'm gone. Dean is also patient, and between the three of us, we could change her life, and give the band what it needs in the process." She said.
"We have to present her to our label. They may say no, and that would be heartbreaking for her." I pointed out.
"If they say no, it'll just be so they can give her another offer. She's adorable, talented, and has the voice of an angel. Please back me up here, Cody." She said.
I smiled. "It's going to cost you, and it won't be cheap." I pulled her into me.
"I've never liked anything that's cheap, Mr. Reid." She pecked my lips.
"Fine, I'll back you up, but you better be ready to stay up all night paying your dues." I kissed her neck.
"Don't make promises you can't keep, Cody." She said.
"Oh, you know I keep my word." I gave her such a deep kiss, I felt her legs go limp.
"Let's go do battle." She smiled against my lips, and I pulled her back into the room hoping to get this over quick so I can collect my payment.
She just sat in her seat with so much hope in her eyes, and I feel much better about my decision.
"I say we get her a room here, and let Caroline work with her over the next few days we are playing Chicago. If she does well, we present her to the label." I suggested.
All three agreed and looked at Wally, who is finally about to leave the tour and go back to Nashville.
"Sounds like a plan." He said.P
Caroline hugged her little prodigy, and it was settled. "Caroline, she can't do this without all of her basic needs being met. Will you take her out tomorrow and polish her up a bit? New clothes and whatever else you women need?" Wally asked, my Caroline gladly accepted.
This may go one of two ways. Either Caroline will willingly give up Vienna for Lana, since she will have a student, or she will still go. I've tried everything other than just asking. Damn, I even tried to get her pregnant. What the hell is wrong with me? I am so selfish when it comes to Caroline.
Somehow everything will work out. Even if I have to travel to Vienna, it'll be just fine. I try to convince myself.
