Chapter 17: 52 minutes and Lawrence.
Xander took me to CBG and I skipped to the gate.
"Why so jolly, Dayana?" Xander asked from behind.
"Oh... I'm always happy, stupid idiot!" I said with a giggle.
Seriously though, why am I so jolly? Something must be up, I just can't put my finger to it.
"Lies!" Xander exclaimed and tackled me into a hug.
I yelped, "Help! I've been caught!"
Xander laughed like one of those villains in cartoons.
"Let me go!" I exclaimed.
With no warning, I karate chopped (or whatever I did) his hand.
He let me go immediately and I ran towards the building.
"Hey Daya-"
"No time, Kera!" I exclaim.
"....on needs to see you!" I hear her say.
Just by that, I knew she was referring to Leon.
I rushed to the elevator and pressed the button for the fourth floor.
Ding!
Surprisingly, no one got on the elevator up to the fourth floor.
I exited the elevator and went to Leon's office, noticing there weren't a lot of members roaming around the hallways.
"Weird..." I muttered to myself.
I reached the end of the hallway and opened the door to Leon's office.
"You called?" I asked.
"What? Oh, Dayana." Lawrence said.
"Law!" I exclaimed, hugging him.
"Missed me wild cat?" He asked as he ruffled my hair.
"Yup. Where have you been?" I asked him.
"Places, as such." He replied. "How have you been? I heard you got suspended. Did Leon get mad at you?"
"Nope." I said, popping the p, "But you should've gone instead of Leon."
He laughed, "Did Leon summon you?"
"I think." I replied.
"You think?" He questioned with a raised eyebrow.
"Yes, because having a brain means having to think. I don't know about you though." I said, giggling at the last part.
The door burst open all of a sudden, making us snap our attention to it.
"Lawrence? When did you get here?" Leon asked.
"Just a while ago." Lawrence replied.
"Dayana, you're here too." Leon said, "Oh, right. I summoned you."
I giggled, "What do you need?"
"Wait, don't tell me you forgot?" He asked me.
Me? Forget something? Impossible! Well... I guess I am a little forgetful.
I chuckled nervously, "Forgot what?"
"Oh, that." Lawrence said.
"What? Law, are you hiding something?" I accused.
"It's 52 minutes today!" Leon and Lawrence exclaimed in unison.
"What!" I exclaimed, tripping on air.
"Yeah, how come you couldn't remember?" Leon asked.
I groaned, "Shut up."
52 minutes is a yearly activity in CBG wherein members are paired up to face trials. But you can die there too.
"Anyways, prepare weapons-"
"Toys." I corrected Leon.
"-and gather up at the announcement room at 8:00." He finished.
I looked at the wall clock, "Four more hours!"
"You're excited, aren't you?" Lawrence asked me.
"Of course I am! Who's gonna be my partner, Lee?" I asked Leon.
Leon scratched the back of his head, "I don't think you'll be happy if I tell you."
"Let me guess. I'm gonna be partnered up with rookie?" I asked him.
"Well, yeah." He replied.
Lawrence rested his chin on my head, "There's a rookie? I need to meet him... or her."
"Yes, and guess what? The rookie is a Bryer." Leon told him.
"Whoa, where did you find Xavier's kid?" Lawrence asked.
"He witnessed Dayana killing someone." Leon replied bluntly.
I frowned, "Get your chin off of my head."
I hear him chuckle and Leon frowned.
"What's up with you, frowny face?" I asked him.
Lawrence chuckled again, "Let him be. He can't help but have some jelly."
"Jelly? I want peanut butter and jelly." I said, licking my lips.
"I'll make you one." Leon offered, exiting to his mini-kitchen in his office.
Lawrence chuckled again.
"Why do you keep chuckling?" I asked him, tilting my head.
"You're really dense. How cute, no wonder my brother takes interest in you." He said, muttering the last part that I could barely here it.
"What?" I asked him.
He smiled, "Ignore that. You don't need to know what I just said."
"Okay?" I said, making it come out as a question instead of an answer.
"Anyways, I would want to know if you train that Bryer rookie." Lawrence said.
"Yes, I am training him." I answered.
"So... is he good?" Lawrence said excitedly.
"If you call not being able to dodge knives good, then yes, he is good." I said sarcastically.
"Yikes, he sounds good. I might not beat him if we meet." He says, riding along.
I laughed at that remark and playfully hit his shoulder.
"Owie." He said, rubbing his shoulder.
"What's wrong?" I asked him.
"I may or may not have a cut there." He said sheepishly.
I hit the back of his head, "Stupid. Where did you go anyways?"
"West side of the city. Had to find allies. I found rivals instead." He replied, rubbing the back of his head.
"As expected." I said with a playful eyeroll.
"Hey, it's not my fault they got scared when I mentioned you." Lawrence said.
"Why, I'm honored." I said with a smirk.
"Not really, dum-dum." He said as he hit the back of my head.
I pouted, "If you mentioned how many people I killed in one month, they would've wanted to form an alliance for us."
"You barely kill anyone these days." Lawrence told me, "Why's that?"
"July." I replied, looking away.
"Oh... I'm sorry." He said.
I looked back at him and he was smiling sadly.
"Well, July is also a month to celebrate." I told him.
"Yeah, it's the month you joined CBG." Lawrence said.
"But also..." I trialed off and smiled.
Leon came in just in time with a plate of three peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.
I rushed over to him and took two.
"Hey! The other one was for me!" Leon exclaimed.
"Whoops." I said as I took a bite out of the two, "Not anymore."
Lawrence chuckled and took his sandwich.
"You have to make my lunch in class." I told Leon.
"What are you, a first grader?" He asked me.
"No, just a girl who loves your PB and J's." I replied, taking another bite.
He laughed and ruffled my hair, "Fine. If you like it that much, I don't need to argue."
I smiled and finished the sandwich.
"Yum."
