Chapter 13
I followed him to the kitchen and we past his mom cleaning the living room. She looked our way and smiled.
"Feeling better Travis?"
"I'm fine mom, we're going to get something to eat, k?"
Without looking her way, he opened the fridge and I nodded my head a big yes to her behind his back. She gave me a thumbs up and went back to cleaning.
I felt bad for his mom for what she was going through. She was a pretty women with long blond hair and nice figure. It it made me wonder how his dad could have left a women like that.
"There is nothing good in here." He growled.
"Yes, there is, look." I pushed him out of the way and grabbed out bread, meat and cheese. He walked to the pantry to grab some chips and soda for us as well.
I made us some sandwiches and we walked out to the back patio to eat. They had a couple of reclining outside chairs and an end table in the middle to set our drinks on. They also had a big field out back with a track his dad built for the quads. Him and his brother got them for christmas one year. It was nice that his brother left his quad there when he moved out. He said he wanted to keep it there when he came to visit, cause his house didn't have anywhere to ride it anyway. Travis and I would race each other sometimes when we got bored.
"I got a stupid dress for the prom."
"I can't believe you are going, we're going to have so much fun Kendall."
"Zack texted me."
"Oh ya?" he smirked, turning his head in my direction.
"He was all, I'm going to have my driver come get you."
"What?"
"Right? I texted him back telling him I don't think my dads going to like it if I don't introduce you to him first."
"He's sort of strange anyway, I still can't believe your going with him."
"It's one night and I'm doing this for you anyway remember." I looked his way squinting one eye at him. "I have to wear a freaking dress and not to mention-" I sat up wide eyed at him, cutting off my own sentence. "Oh shit! I forgot to tell you, after I got my dress, mom said she is taking the day off to do my hair and makeup."
"No way?! She must really be happy your going, she never takes a day off."
"Exactly!" I leaned back into the chair. "It just sucks for that purpose though, I hate wearing that crap."
"You look good with makeup on, but of course you don't need it."
He has seen me with that crap on my face before, once when we went to his brother's wedding and also one other time at a dinner party for his dad's work we were invited to.
I liked that he mentioned I didn't need it though. That made me feel good, I was glad I didn't need it too. I never really cared what others thought of my appearance except for his. He would tell me the truth about anything I would ask, I think thats why we were such close friends.
"Thanks Travis." I smiled, looking out to towards the track. "Lets go riding, ya?"
"Ok." He said, before taking his last bite of his sandwich.
We got the quads out from the garage and pushed them out back. He rode his brothers while I had his. His brothers went faster than his on a strait course, but the track had curves, woops and jumps that made it challenging. So he would win sometimes or maybe I would, whatever the outcome was, it always fun.
We started out at the same pace for awhile, he notice this and spinned a pile of dirt in my face from his back tire. I got pissed and speeded up behind him. I got close enough to bump his tire next to the berm. It sent him over the berm, flipping the quad over right on top of him. I stopped and hopped off to make sure he was ok. I felt so bad. He was still laying on the ground, on his back when I got to him.
"Travis shit, I'm so sorry, you ok?" I grabbed his shoulders shaking him a bit. His eyes were still closed though. I panicked and asked again.
"Travis please! answer me." I felt his neck for a pulse and was going to call out to his mom for help. When I turned my head though, he grabbed my arms to pull me down towards him and opened his eyes.
"Oh Kendall, my hero." He said, with an evil smirk
"You fucking ass!"
